Loosely based on Pippa Passes , Robert Browning's quintessential dramatic poem revolving around an innocent silk mill worker whose simple song produces a profound effect on the lives of the people who hear her, The Pippa Effect centers around Philippa Browning, IT girl at Monroe Enterprises, who lives with the simple belief that love has the power to change lives. Her gestalt comes into direct conflict with Adam Monroe, CEO and heir to the Monroe fortune who, forced to take up the reins of Monroe Enterprises when his father absconded, bitterly runs his company fairly yet with cold precision. Adam first meets Pippa as she's perched atop a ladder changing the wifi access point in his office. Angered at her presence on the cusp of an important business meeting with potential partners from Beijing, his rude behavior further validates his ruthless reputation. When the hired interpreter realizes the men speak Cantonese and not Mandarin, Pippa shocks everyone in the room when she steps off her ladder and greets the two representatives in flawless Cantonese. Pippa then privately informs Adam that all is not as it seems with the men who have been sent to represent The Hu-Wang Company. Sons of the founders, they have launched a campaign of deceit being completely fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. Pippa warns Adam to be cautious as he conducts himself around them since they fully understand everything that is being said. Intrigued by her language abilities, Adam sees her potential aiding his foreign affairs and offers her a lucrative position as his official interpreter and personal assistant. Adam soon learns, however, that Pippa is more than just a low-level IT employee. The daughter of an United States ambassador, she has lived abroad the majority of her life and not only adopted the "hobby" of collecting languages but is also gifted in the art of diplomacy. Philippa's vivacious nature and innate love for people, however, is in direct antithesis to Adam's brutal and surly demeanor. As time passes, however, Adam witnesses the effect Pippa's presence has on everyone that crosses her Cynthia, his administrative assistant; James, his personal driver; Charlene, his on-again off-again paramour; even the second-generation Chinese delegates and his own mentally disturbed mother are not immune to Pippa's charms. But when her troubled past is revealed through unexpected circumstances, Adam learns that all is not smiles and sunshine for Pippa. And when her beacon begins to fade, Adam realizes it is up to him to fan her dwindling spark back into a bright enduring flame.

This was a really fun book! I loved the characters. Pippa is a heroine who inspires you to love others, and just be kinder all around. As Pippa experiences hardships, you'll feel sad for her. I thought this one was very readable, and I enjoyed it right from the start! Be sure to check this one out!!
Pippa works as an IT girl at Monroe Enterprises. She is charming and seems to have such a love for all around her. Adam Monroe is the Ceo and Heir to the company. He's brutal and cold with the way he runs the company. When Adam is about to have a meeting with potential business partners from Beijing, his hired interpreter realizes that they are speaking in Cantonese and not Mandarin. To Adams surprise, Pippa can understand what these men are saying. She became fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin as well as English, as her father was a US Ambassador, and she has lived abroad throughout her life. She warns Adam that all is not as it seems with the men from this Hu-Wang company, and tells him he must be careful. He's so impressed with Pippas language abilities, he offers her a job working as his personal assistant and interpreter. Eventually, as her troubled past starts to change her, and he notices that she's not the peppy, happy girl that she was, Adam must take it upon himself to to bring her happiness back!!
The Pippa Effect soothes the soul and encourages readers to embrace the fullness of their humanity. Reminiscent of Pride & Prejudice in some ways, this modern romance recounts a serendipitous – yet surprising – merging of souls. Pippa Browning and Adam Monroe are an unlikely pair, but they connect in their “broken places” and find intimacy within imperfection.
Corporate America finds its palpable beating heart as the reader is swept into Pippa’s “light.” Zanders designed a beautifully simple yet complex story that feels hopeful in dark times and reminds us to keep faith in the restorative power of love.
This beautiful story captures the lives of complex and compelling characters, and paints how the actions of one can affect and influence many in meaningful and unexpected ways.
I truly believe "The Pippa Effect" can teach us all about ourselves, and how our light can spread far beyond those we've shone on personally. Simple acts of kindness and caring can make a world of difference, and understanding can open the door to forgiveness and rekindled relationships, even with those who have deeply hurt us in the past.
Each character evolves through the narrative, warts and all, and help advance the arch of the telling. This book brings light and love to the forefront of life choices and decisions. I am eager to see these characters in future books.
