A lonely novelist and a pretty divorcée beat cabin fever and find love in this uplifting winter romance!
Alone in her cabin, during an increasingly snowy winter, novelist Emma Doughty has a lot to work through. As she struggles to complete the latest book in her on-going series, Emma must also contend with remnant feelings of heartbreak and abandonment. And now, after turning forty and spending another Christmas by herself, she’s feeling completely lost in life and in love.
Emma’s neighborhood is mostly summer homes, and winter is a quiet season around the lake. So when Marian Taggart moves in across the street, Emma finds herself immediately interested in her pretty new neighbor. Marian, recently divorced, is feeling lost, too. But she has a much different story than Emma, and she’s eager to escape her past, figure out what’s next, and finally live her life true to herself.
Both Emma and Marian feel buried by an avalanche of life’s difficulties. As their relationship heats up, can this new romance survive the winter blues, an intolerant family, and an old flame?
I love Nicolette Dane’s writing. Her stories always has a sweet adventure tucked in a warm story. This was no different. Two women at a crossroad in their lives, meet and become instantly enamored with each other. Emma has been living in her cabin in Michigan alone for two years after her girlfriend upped and left her. Emma was a writer and when she an her ex were tired of New York they decided to move and build a cabin. But then her ex was not happy and started blaming the move on Emma so she split to go back to New York. Leaving Emma hurt and heartbroken. Marian came to her Aunts cabin to get away from her recent divorce which was a sham. But their was a lot of sadness and confusion. So she needed time to get herself together. When she arrives at the cabin, Emma who lives across from her comes over to introduce herself. The story takes these two women into a friendship which quickly turns into something more. Marian teaches Emma how to be open to things outside of her box. Not only sexually but even stepping into a big box store. Emma learns the life Marian was leading and instead of judging her, she is supportive and understanding and a shoulder that Marian so desperately needed. This story was so sweet and so full of promise even when Emma’s ex returns. A must read!
Emma, a writer, who lives in Northern Michigan Arbutus Lake was dumped two years prior by her ex-girlfriend Carrie. Carrie left and returned to New York City and Emma stayed in their cabin in the woods.
Marian is recently divorced from Richard. Both are gay and were married to each to hide from their respective families. But now Richard wants to marry Seth. So Marian moves into her Aunt and Uncle’s vacation home across the street from Emma.
Emma and Carrie become friends and eventually more during a very snowy winter. Their developing relationship helps both of them recover from past relationship woes. Not only do they recover but their romance sizzles with some incredible scenes.
3.5 stars, but unfortunately I can’t give any half stars!
Emma is usually spending winters alone in her cabin in Northern Michigan. Her neighbors are using their houses as summer homes, but suddenly a young woman is moving into the house across the road. Marian is a decent divorcée (without a broken heart) and she’s turning Emma’s “plans” of a cold winter alone writing books upside down.
I like how the books doesn’t only focus on their relationship, but also shows personal growth. Marian and Emma are perfect for each other - also a bit of a spoiler: get ready for some experiments in the bedroom.
This was one of the most enjoyable, while also a difficult, books I've read in a long time. I've known several people in similar situations to Marian's, LGBTQ people who've attempted to "fit in" and "do the right thing", while hiding who they really are. But happiness can only be found by living an authentic life! This book captures so many of those little things that the vast majority of the population never face and certainly never consider. I never tire of reading Nicolette Dane. Make sure author is on your lesfic must read list!
Emma is a successful author whose first couple of books were made into a streaming seasons. She had moved to Northern Michigan and build a house with her ex-girlfriend. When Marian moves into her aunt’s house across the street for the winter they immediately become friends. A marvelous midlife transition story of growth and finding passion and romance.
Emma is a writer that moved to the mountains with her girlfriend to get away from New York City. But after a few months Carrie cannot take it and moves but to the city. Emma after two years is just making it. When Marian moves in across the street things change. A beautiful story of how a friendship is built when their Snowed Under for a winter then a relationship that is solid and strong.
Two people wind up together in the same wintery neighborhood and sparks fly. Their romance is not something either one of them expected but it gives them so much more.
I have to mention one of the hottest love scenes in a long time, and an interesting hot drink that I will definitely try still this winter.
Definitely not up to the standards Ms Dane has set in her former novels. No highs nor lows for me, just meh! No redeeming value to either character. I’m just disappointed.
Loved it, this is definitely one of my favourite Nicolette Dane books. I love the whole ‘cabin in the woods’ stuff albeit a little cheesy. But wholesome.
