Realistically its odd to rate old texts but my main critique is that some things are outdated now, such as consuming ghee and milk. We all know exploiting animals is not ethical in any way because we have to see them as products, remove their autonomy, and build systems around stealing from them. Plus, cow's milk is meant for baby calves--not adult humans.
Secondly, there were several times where it was mentioned that this information should be kept secret and only be transferred by one's guru, and this text would have been prescribed by a guru for one to read. This turns out to be a catch-22, why am I able to read it then? Isn't this another indication that it's out of its time?
So I think the main purpose of this text should be to see its role within a larger historical context rather than use it as a manual, though of course that would be possible as well but I think it would be highly unlikely that someone finds this and makes it their bible to live by to-the-T.
Definitely not for a beginner yoga practitioner, as it would confuse one even farther. I highly doubt each and every practice laid out in this text is for every yogi. And even if so, or whatever extent is relevant for a person, should probably still be prescribed within a lineage by a guru, or yoga teacher who is very learned.
