He never thought they’d get forever. She never thought it would feel like this.
Victoria Thompson has so much to be grateful for. She finally got the risk-reducing surgeries that granted her a new lease on life. Now she gets to spend the rest of forever loving the man who has always been by her side. Against all the odds, it all worked out. But despite clearing every health hurdle and emotional hang-up, nothing feels like she thought it would.
Everhett Wheeler knows his priorities these days: taking care of his wife, maintaining his sobriety, and proving himself at work. He hates that they’re still living apart and playing the long-distance game, but he promised Tori he could be patient. If this is what it takes to guarantee forever, he’s all in.
When Tori and Rhett each receive life-altering news on the same weekend, it feels like the ground shifts beneath their feet in different directions. Tori doesn’t have it in her to make the sacrifices that need to be made. Rhett doesn’t know what to do when he asks for help and she refuses him. After everything they endured to get to this place, happily ever after wasn’t supposed to feel like this.
Tori’s deepest fears are behind her, and Rhett’s biggest dreams are within his grasp. Can their once-in-a-lifetime love be enough to propel them into the future, together? They had forever once. What if that version of forever is all they get?
Content Warning: When You’re Gone is a steamy new adult romance that includes mature themes, mental health issues, references to infidelity, and language that some may find offensive. This is the last book in the Hampton Hearts Series, which should be read in order. It ends with a happily ever after.
Abby Millsaps is an author and storyteller who's been obsessed with writing romance since middle school. In eighth grade, she failed to qualify for the Power of the Pen State Championships because all her submissions contained the same theme: young people falling in love. #LookAtHerNow
She's best known for writing unapologetically angsty romance that causes emotional damage for her readers. Abby prides herself in writing authentic characters while weaving mental health, chronic illness, and neurodiverse representation into the fabric of her stories.
Abby met her husband at a house party the summer before her freshman year of college. He had a secret pizza stashed in the trunk of his car that he was saving for a midnight snack—how was she supposed to resist that level of golden retriever energy and preparedness? When Abby isn't writing, she's reading, traveling, and raising her three daughters.
The author's warnings of infidelity are there for a reason...
Its like all the crap he was dealing with in the previous book just floated away. No continuation nor further explanations. He’s got a handle on his substance abuse and is there for her all the way. Like he initially was for years and years
She’s back to being miserable and morbid and clingy and needy and angry and selfish and stubborn and unrelatable and demanding but refuses to give more or even as much as she takes. God, she's effing ridiculous. At least she feels guilt about her part in finding the H his gf, which lead to so much hurt and sadness on all their parts. She SAYS she's trying to be a better person but of cos she's just an asshole
THEN SHE CHEATS ON THE HERO with the om. Its now physical whereas before it was emotional and not as blatant because even I made excuses for her shitty behavior They’re in a pool or hot tub and she leads him on, up to a point where she straddles him. She stops it from going any further but the H finds out.
It’s the straw that breaks the camel’s back because she’s been pulling and pushing for ages now and the H has had enough of her shyte and gives her an out. By now I just want him to be happy but she makes it damn hard He doesn’t retaliate. No cheating on his side at all.
They have a hea that I’m not convinced of. It more co-dependency than love. They have an obsessive destructive intensely sexual relationship. I might read another book just to catch up with them. Maybe he’ll meet a nice gal and give this drama queen the boot

Creating a series like the Hampton Hearts that holds steady from the very first page to the very last is a heard feat, but Abby Millsaps did it.
Rhett & Tori have come such a long way from the friends with benefits we met back in book one of the Hampton Hearts series. They've overcome every battle that they have been faced with, from addiction to surgeries and everything in between. Now, that they are both faced with life altering news will this be the thing that steps in the way of them finally getting their forever.
Rhett knows where his priorities lay but being away from Tori is much harder than he thought it would be. They were able to survive the years that separated them during college, but this is something entirely different because there is no quick trip to ease the loneliness. Being thrust into this new reality is forcing Rhett to see all the ways that Tori isn't there for him.
Tori made it through the surgeries, and all the fears that she once had her in her rearview, but she still doesn't feel like her and Rhett are truly living their forever. The distance is causing Tori to have more emotions than she ever thought possible, and one mistake could lead her to being without Rhett for a long longer than a few months.
In this heartbreakingly brilliant finale in the Hampton Hearts series, we get so much more of everything!! We get more Rhett & Tori, more Jake, and even more Fielding, fucking Fielding! We get Tori & Rhett at the ledges, and all the feels that I am learning Abby is impossibly good at.
Saying goodbye to Tori & Rhett was hard but I am hoping that even though their story is over we might see them again in future books.
If I could give When You're Gone more than five stars, I would. In fact, I would for the complete series.
Abby gives us a finale that is emotionally gripping, well written and has us shedding a few tears. Her story of Tori and Rhett has been a rollercoaster of emotions that has lasted flour books. With each and every one of them, she tells a story of two souls that need one another, loves hard and at the same time fall even harder. In While You’re Gone, your heart will stop beating and you will definitely feel anger, hate and understanding at the actions that these two decide upon.
We know that Tori and Rhett are two people that are made for each other. However, their lives are full of twists and turns. Rhett is still working for his family’s company away from Tori but tries to get back to see her as much as possible. When Rhett is thrown into a life-changing situation and is trying his best. Tori is his life but he struggles between work and his life with Tori. They both try hard to be there for each other but when it doesn’t work out, how do they react? Tori just wants to be with Rhett and decides to take matters into her own hands, only to have it completely fall apart. Will her actions cause heartache? Will the trust that they had built be questioned? Can Rhett see why she did what she did or will this push him to the brink? Will his friends worry about his drinking and falling down the rabbit hole? The decisions that they both make are understandable but has your heartbreaking. You know that they love each other but is it enough with all the changes that they are going through?
Abby did warn us that we just might want to throw our devices and believe me I had to stop myself a lot. I did however yell at my device and wanted to crawl into the book and give Tori a shake to make her see what she was doing. You know that a storyline is so well written when you get so involved with the story that you do not realize that you are talking to your device. When it come to Fielding, anger came to the surface. Through this whole series, I loved the way he always put Tori first. For me, he was the male friend that we want in our lives. Yes, he might have pushed the envelope with Tori before but in this book, I can honestly say I am not #teamFielding anymore. Abby shattered by heart with Fielding’s actions and finding out about some of the things that he did in the past. Jake will always be the man that has your heart, no matter what he does. He truly loves Tori and Rhett and will do anything for them. He does do a couple of things that were necessary because of his love for them, but it has your head spinning at the same time.
I am very sad to see the end of this outstanding series come to an end. Abby has had my attention since the first chapter of When You’re Home to the HEA at the end of When You’re Gone. The rollercoaster ride was well worth the ride. Abby will have me suffering a book hangover for a long time. I am so glad that I started this series and connected with such a talented writer. Although she puts your heart through the wringer, she does do it with love and also gives you the perfect ending to the Hamptons Hearts series. Congratulations Abby on a best seller series.
I've HAD IT with Rhett and Tori and all their bullshit. They fight over stupid shit not worth fighting about and then they do everything they can to make it worse. I don't know why they think the rest of the world should revolve around them, but I hate that too.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is not a standalone so get to reading this review then get started on this angsty series that will crack your heart wide open before putting it all back together.
And yes, When You’re Gone is where it all gets put back together. Maybe. I know, it's cryptic but it’s all worth it!
When You’re Gone is a story of childhood friends turned soulmates that realize maybe love isn’t enough. Maybe years of history isn’t enough to carry a relationship for a lifetime and figuring it all out is painful and frustratingly unavoidable. I didn’t think I could love Rhett and Tori more but their connection is visceral and their emotional turmoil so cutting that it leapt off the pages and I couldn’t stop reading.
These two come full-circle in this one and it’s absolutely the most satisfying series ending. Abby is so talented at writing characters that are so endearing they’re downright cozy. The friendships are as deep as the love between Rhett and Tori. Jake is back as Tori’s charming bi-sexual backup husband and Rhett’s always loyal best friend. When Tori is lost, Fielding is there in all his mischievous glory ready to lead her to sunnier times.
Aaaaand, I cannot say this enough: Abby is the Queen of passionately sexxxy vibes! The spiciness in this one is impressively creative and emotionally intense.
One-click the entire Hampton Hearts series, you won’t regret it!
“Every version of me has only ever wanted to be with you, and I know I’ll be steadfast in that desire for my entire life. There’s no happiness for me without you.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Gahhhh you guys! This book! What a wonderful, angsty, hot af, throw your kindle across the room, conclusion to Rhett and Tori’s emotional roller coaster of a love story.
When You’re Gone picks up with Rhett and Tori still trying to make their long distance relationship work and hitting some minor and major obstacles because of it.
I spent a good part of this angry at Tori for her decisions, her actions, and for her stubbornness but all of those struggles made her character development and growth that much sweeter. Rhett while dealing with his sobriety, a new advancement in his career, and trying his best to elevate his and Tori’s relationship to the next level is in my opinion as swoony and perfect as ever especially when equipped with some buttercream (IYKYK).
I’ve enjoyed this series immensely but this was hands down my favorite installment. I’ll miss these two characters and it is absolutely bittersweet to close this chapter but I’m excited to see glimpses of them in future stories when we see what’s in store for some of the other Hampton crew, especially Jake, everyone’s favorite bi-sexual back-up husband!
When You’re Gone Abby Millsaps ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/10
ARC Spoiler free review
The FINAL 😥 book in The Hampton Heart Series. Tori and Rhett have gone through a lot over the past couple of books, When you’re Home While you’re There When you’re Home for the Holidays Novella And now, When You’re Gone.
With a life turning event and Rhett stepping into an amazing opportunity, It’s in this book we see the messiness that hides beneath their relationship as husband and wife. Will their love be strong enough to keep them whole? Or has their chapter finally come to an end?
VICTORIA THOMPSON. I swear if I were to have a heart attack from the book, it’s because of you! Youuu girl, pissed me off for a good 95% of this book🤦🏻♀️ (and probably all the others lol) ALLLL of me wished you were real, wished you were my bestie so I can slap the shit out of you and grab you by your shoulders and yell “wtf is wrong with you?! GET IT TOGETHER!” Just the way she does things in the book irrrrks me to my core. Victoria’s character has gone through many trials and tribulations within the Hampton Heart Series and she has had the most amazing character development in this book.
EVERHETT, my Rhett. Oh how I love you! I love everything about Rhett’s character and through all four books I have always been on Rhett’s team. Always rooted for him to come up on top. He also went through some major character development and all I can say is… that it was worth it. He grew individually and as an amazing husband.
Also, #FuckingFielding
And JAKEEEEEY. Gosh, he is such an amazing BestFriend to both Tori and Rhett and I cannot wait for his own series because he deserves it. 👏🏽
With this book you will: ▪️Laugh ▪️Cry (the first book to make me cry in a long time!) ▪️Yell ▪️Scream ▪️Punch whoever is sitting next to you ▪️ blush because the spice scenes🔥👌🏽
This title will be released Feb 9th and you can pre-order it here When You're Gone: A Best Friends-to-Lovers Last Chance Romance (Hampton Hearts Book 3) - Kindle edition by Millsaps, Abby. Contemporary Romance Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.
@abbymillsaps I applaud you because I’ve been stuck to your books since I picked up When You’re Home and your writing is just beautiful. I love every single character… well maybe not all 👀🤣 I was emotionally invested in every word and I’m sad to see this series go. But ready for a new adventure!
Tori and Rhett (sigh) what a journey. This story has taken me through all the emotions. I was mad, sad, happy and horny🤣 the seven dwarfs of emotions. When you read this, you honestly don't know how it's gonna go. Abby definitely kept me on my toes. The angst got me in the chest. Rhett is a beautiful human being and an amazing man. Tori drove me crazy and I honestly wanted to punch her for a quick sec😝 but she did redeem herself. I honestly felt for everything she had been through but IYKYK.
I cannot express how excited I am to get s story for Jake. He has been my A1 since day one of this series. An amazing friend with the best heart. He's one of my all time favorite side characters and I can't wait for him to get his own HEA.
Bravo!! Way to end the series with the HEA we’ve all been waiting for!! Once again the ups and downs we are taken on will leave you feeling like you just got off the best emotional rollercoaster. There was a lot of closure in this book, which I greatly appreciated!
This entire series I’ve felt like Tori has been more on the selfish side but I’m glad that in this final book she’s finally realizing that and all the sacrifices Rhett has made. It’s unfortunate the events that had to happen in this story for the ending to happen the way it did but what’s meant to be will be. Loved this series and am so glad I read them all! I would definitely recommend this series to others.
ARC - I received this book in exchange for my honest, spoiler-free review
The Hampton Hearts series is a must read. I can say I probably enjoyed it even more knowing the author is local to my area and I can relate to some of the places she helps us visualize through the series. I feel like I personally know these characters, Tori, Rhett, Jake, Fielding, Dempsey & even Charlotte. Abby creates such believable and relatable characters.
When You’re Gone is the last of the series and the author does a great job wrapping up the story lines, although there is a piece I hope she will revisit in the future.
Abby didn’t lie when she said we could be totally mad at a character, ahem, Tori! There is a lot of growing up that is finally realized. The characters all grow so much in this final book and we can see them embracing adulthood and the responsibilities that come with it. Rhett & Tori’s journey through a long distance relationship / marriage, health ups and downs and sobriety are all things many readers can find solace in knowing they aren’t alone.
I look forward to reading more books from this author.
Tori and Rhett’s story comes to a close in this book and I took my time reading this. I was so excited/anxious, I was afraid I’d rush through and miss something so I paced myself. Also, if you’ve read the previous books in this series, you know how emotionally angst filled they are and full of highs and lows. I huffed and I puffed in frustration; I reached for the tissues A LOT; and I loved every minute of it!
I’ve loved Tori throughout this series but, I was still extremely frustrated with her in this book. I really wanted to shake her at certain points! I felt so sad for Rhett that he was alone and needed her and she seemed to feel like that wasn’t a good enough reason. Then, I also felt for her! These were growing pains. Tori is learning how to be Tori, with a future she wasn’t sure she was going to have and that alone would be a lot to process.
Rhett, oh Rhett, I really just wanted to hug him. Despite some of his decisions in the past, he has always focused on Tori and it was actually good to see him reaching out for support when he needed it the most. Just as much as we see Tori grow and evolve with all of the change that has happened, so does Rhett and it was almost refreshing in a way to see them be better for each other.
I basically felt like a jumbled, teary mess for most of this read. I’m not sure I’ve ever cried so much reading a story… ever!
“They had been everything to each other. Best friends. First Loves. Exes. Friends with benefits. But what were they now? Who were they now? And were they both willing to commit to that new version of forever?”
Rhett and Tori’s love story is beautiful, messy, hard, and all consuming. But, they also felt so very real! Like they could be someone you know and each of their stories make you feel so connected to them.
This was a wonderfully emotional, breathtakingly intense (at times), and beautiful ending to Tori and Rhett’s story.
Some of my favorite things: 💋I still love Jake. And I’m willing to share 🤣 “Don’t be stupid. He loves you. He loves you so deeply he forgets himself sometimes.” 💋Tori and Rhett bring the steam, once again! Damn…. 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 I won’t ruin it for you but, you may not look at certain things the same way for a while. 🖤Not a favorite thing, but noteworthy: Fielding.. what the 🤬
I was lucky enough received this as an ARC. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
We finally made it, the last book of this amazing trilogy. This is a book I was both wanting and afraid of, but not for the reasons you would guess. Well unless you know me really well while reading these books. I wanted to know the ending that Rhett and Tori had in store for them because for everything they have been through they deserved their forever. Yet, Abby has a way of creating a world that as soon as you are reading you can feel the emotions of the characters. She opened my heart with each book and it took a little beating each time. I was afraid to have those emotions all hit like I knew only Abby could do to me. There were tears, oh so many tears, but the ending was sheer perfection for this couple. We have watched them over the past year as they went from friends to so much more. Their path was not an easy one and they both had massive struggles, but in the end they did get their happy ending. We had a few F Fielding moments and a huge almost throw the kindle moment, but both these two had some growing up to do before they could make the decision to be all in.
As always, we get the constant love and support of Jake. There is just something about that guy that makes you need his book sooner than planned. This man stood beside Tori through all the trials and tribulations and helped her the best way he knew how. We watched Dempsey stand up and become more important and all I can say is Gala. Did I need to put my kindle down a couple of times? Yeah, I did. I needed to wait for the tears to stop so the words weren’t blurry. I did push through like I was told to do and it helped. Was this book worth the tears, yeah it was. This series was beautiful. Tori and Rhett were beautifully broken in so many ways and both needed to learn to love themselves to love each other, but also that their love was enough to make it through. I highly recommend this Trilogy and novella, just be prepared for some very hot times, but also some tears.
Wow! Abby Millsaps has written a stunning, beautifully emotional series, the way it finishes off the story is exactly that, beautiful. She is incredibly talented with how she makes you feel while you read. (I’m still crying happy tears while I write this!)
There is so much packed into this book, so much angst, worry, anger, shock and so much happiness! It’s hard to even explain.
I have loved the Hampton Hearts Series from the first book! It was my favourite read of 2021. Each book has been adding to Rhett and Tori’s story, taking you along for the ride. They are meant to be together, destined, but it’s not always easy, life can be cruel. They have so many obstacles in the way, so many out of their control but some of their own making too.
We meet them as they agree to friends with benefits… all the way to husband and wife. Watching them struggle through Tori’s life saving surgeries and her recovery after was extremely hard, but Abby writes those scenes with extreme care and love.
I’m so glad that Tori FINALLY sees all the sacrifices Rhett has made over the years for her and how he’s always prioritised her happiness over his own. He’s always been incredibly selfless, I’m so happy he played it the way he did.
One of the things that upset me most was Fielding. I did not see that coming AT ALL. I really liked his carefree, laid back ways.. those scenes had me angry, shocked and crying! Im STILL all of those things if I’m honest!!
Jake was brilliant as usual, such a supportive friend to both Rhett and Tori. I’m REALLY looking forward to his book! It’s going to be amazing! How could it not be!?
I’m so happy this ended their story with a beautiful HEA, one that they truly deserve… but knowing this is the end of their story and saying goodbye is extremely tough. I will 100% be rereading these a lot in the future!
I adore Everhett and Victoria, they have a special place in my heart.
Bravo Abby, thank you for letting me read your beautiful words ♥️
Where do I begin? This last book in the Hampton Hearts series had me more excited and more anxious for its release than any other book/author/series has in a long time.
This final chapter in the Ev + V story comes after Tori has had both risk-reducing surgeries that she has always wanted. Rhett’s job has them still functioning in a long-distance relationship, but that doesn’t kill the spice in their relationship… sometimes it makes it even spicier, because Rhett is and always will be a GIVER. (You’ll never look at FaceTime the same ever again) 🥵
But that doesn’t mean it’s all sunshine and rainbows… Tori is facing some difficulties with her new healthy reality and the possibility of a future she never let herself dream about before. Rhett is thrown a huge change in his work that causes tension to mount in the relationship he’s always wanted.
Some questionable decisions cause lots of chaos and make you wonder how this series could possibly have a happily ever after. There will be moments that you want to chuck your book/Kindle/tablet across the room and others when you’ll be reaching for the tissues.
You’ll be cheering on the best, best friend anyone could ever dream of in Jake because his loyalty and support are genuinely unmatched. You’ll probably utter some expletives at some main characters *cough* F@#$ing Fielding *cough*. You’ll see character growth in our Golden Boy and might wonder how a world of fiction could entangle your emotions so intensely…
But that’s because the writing is SO excellent. Abby handles the most devastating situations with such care and is able to pen emotions in an honest, and sometimes uncomfortable way that I think is rarely accomplished. All of the relationships ebb and flow in such a real way that it’s easy to find moments that are relatable. The emotions are articulated in such a genuine way that if something resonates with you, you’ll probably feel it in your soul.
This is the final book in The Hampton Heart's Series and it continues Tori and Rhett's story and it is definitely a must read. Omg what a rollercoaster ride of emotions this story takes you on so get the tissues ready because boy you are definitely going to need them. Tori and Rhett has gone through so much and it doesn't seem to be getting any better even though they are married in fact there is so much happening that you begin to wonder if they will be stronger together or apart as the bits keep coming putting so much pressure on there marriage but only they can decide if there love is strong enough to get through everything that life is throwing at them and you find yourself holding your breath and hoping that they can get through everything as they are so perfect for each other and deserve to be together regardless of anyone and anything. I was pulled in to this story right from the first book and it kept my attention throughout the whole book and I definitely recommend you read this series and you will definitely not be disappointed. Everyone needs a best friend like Jake as he is everything that you could ever want, loyal, kind, always have your back, always there for you regardless of the situation and I can't wait to hopefully read Jake's story as he definitely deserves a book of his own. Abby Millsaps is an amazing author and writer and she certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention and on the edge of their seats and totally engrossed in her story's and that is what makes them a real page turner and totally addictive and it is a honour to be part of her team. Just remember that this is not a standalone book and you will need to read the full series but they are definitely worth it.
Tori and Rhett have gone through so much in the past year. With both her risk-reducing surgeries behind her, the only thing left for her and Rhett to look forward to were spending the rest of their lives together. But sometimes things don’t always go as planned.
I loved seeing how Tori and Rhett’s relationship grew throughout the series. You can’t help but fall more and more in love with Rhett because of his undying love and loyalty to Tori. All he ever wants is to be with Tori and for her to be happy. We see time and time again all of the sacrifices that he has to make just for her to be happy. Which is why I was annoyed by Tori and her actions in the beginning of this book. Rhett has done so much for her but when it was time for her to be there for him she couldn’t. My heart ached for him and all that he had to go through because even though he needed her he still put her first. But this book is exactly what we need. It was the perfect way to sum up their relationship and the perfect last hurdle for them to get over. Even though I was annoyed with her actions at the beginning of the book I’m glad that we were able to see her grow and be exactly what she needed to be for their relationship to move past everything that they’ve been through. I love this series so much and can’t wait to read more from Abby.
*ARC received from author in exchange for my honest review*
I found Abby on tik tok and her teasers lead me straight to the first book in the series When you're home. I couldn't put this book down and flew to purchase the second book and the novella, one right after the other. I genuinely loved this series so much and was so sad when I was going to have to wait for the final book. Luckily I was selected for ARC and the third book did not come to disappoint!
Tori and Rhett are two characters that are so easy to fall in love with! Abby makes it so easy to get immersed in their love story and become so invested. I found myself on a roller coaster of emotions on this final book. There were quite a few times I felt myself ready to throw my kindle. I have always had a love/hate relationship with Tori, which did not change in this book! I found myself frustrated with so many of her choices. However, the ending was worth every frustration!!
The details in all of the series are much appreciated, but this final book, I feel like Abby took it to the next level for sure. It was spicy all throughout the book!
The only down side I have to my review, is that now it is over. I absolutely loved this series and will miss these characters dearly! However, if Abby ever decided to write another book from another characters point of view, sign me up!
What a perfect *ending* to Rhett and Tori's story!
Hold onto to your hearts...once I started reading this book I could not put it down and then it kept me up at night! There was laughter, joy, tears, angst, anger...really all of the emotions. But what I love most about the Hampton Hearts series is that is feels so real and relatable.
This is the continuation of Tori and Rhett's tumultuous love story. Now that they think the scariest part of their lives is behind them...they are at a loss of where to go and new obstacles keep popping up left and right. They were so used to fighting, that did not know how to just be in love I think. My favorite aspect of this book was watching Tori grow, overcome some serious fears and self doubt. Also watching our selfless, Golden Boy grow a little sense of self preservation/backbone was finally warranted/needed. But in the end, their love for themselves and one another won out and left my heart feeling full ❤️
This is my favortie addition to this series. The phone call scene at the beginning...😈... You will not regret reading this series, so check it out! I CANNOT wait to see what the future hold for Abby!
"There’s nothing I want more, love more, need more in this life than you.”- Rhett
How do I describe a book that concludes one of the most amazing love stories I've ever read? One word- perfect.
Rhett and Tori are struggling. With distance, with communication, with finding out who the people they are becoming are. Rhett has more responsibilities now than ever, while Tori is experiencing a sense of freedom, some might even say recklessness, that she hasn't had in years.
I swear Abby is determined to give me a heart attack. The amount of times I said oh my God over Tori's actions might rival the amount of times we've ever said f@cking Fielding. Speaking of, holy shit that scene was intense!
Through it all we see Jake continue to be the most amazing bisexual back up husband anyone could ever ask for. And of course it wouldn't be Hampton without some incredible spicy scenes. FaceTime, anyone?
The sense of closure we get with this book is extremely satisfying. I will always want more though. These characters mean so much to me; I have laughed with them, yelled at them, and cried for them, but as it stands, it's perfect. Their epic journey will always be close to my heart.
Firstly, you know you’ve read a Millsaps classic when you finish it feeling like you’ve been on the emotional roller coaster of a lifetime. The way she writes and captures you in her storytelling is amazing. I keep forgetting that it’s actually written in third person because I get that absorbed in the words and the story that I feel like I’m there.
The final instalment of the Hampton Hearts story did not disappoint. With Tori and Rhett trying desperately to make long distance work, they were bound to hit some bumps in the road. I don’t think I’m spoiling too much by saying this…
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Fucking Fielding! I also had a moment of madness at Jake, god forbid. I love our bisexual backup husband dearly, but he could have approached that way better. But Tori’s development arc was amazing to see unfold.
Also, I’ve now decided a slipper closet is a must in my next house. And I now know to always have sliced bread on hand. IYKYK 🍞
When your gone is by far my favorite book in the Hampton Heart Series. I literally felt every emotion through the book. Tori and Rhett have been through so much together, I loved to see their relationship grow. Rhett is so determined to make and keep Tori happy, she’s one lucky girl, but does she realize that? I was so disappointed with Tori’s actions and her attitude towards Rhett. When he needed her most all she could think about was herself. Trusty Jake, gosh do I love him, always there to help out and be the best bisexual backup husband and best friend anyone could ask for. So happy that Tori finally found herself and they could get back to the Tori and Rhett that we love. Abby has done an amazing job capturing the wild, steamy, hot romance of Rhett and Tori. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
Happy release day to @abbymillsaps !! The final book in Rhett & Tori’s story is now here 🙌🏻 we are not gonna lie when you’re gone was a damn emotional, frustrating, yell at your kindle/phone, heartbreaking, test your patience, steamy, sexy, great funny banter, heart warming, all consuming journey …! Rhett & tori are both facing new challenges that are major eye openers and make them both have to evaluate everything! (You will want to beat tori a few times 🤣🤷🏼♀️.. we don’t play when it comes to Rhett’s heart🖤)Relationships and friendships are tested, boundaries are crossed and truths are exposed! There is no denying there is so much love but is it enough..Are they going to get their forever or is this however long they get ?! Go get this book now to find out everything!!! Also side note jake is still everything 🤷🏼♀️
**Spoiler Alert** Finally Rhett grew some spine in this book and pushed back against Toria. I did not like the decision of the author to take this track about the story. It is just wrong and offensive, with ramifications. Now Rhett needed his wife to move to Virginia since he has to take the reins of his grandfather’s company as CEO. She didn’t and still wanted to continue to live the life of a carefree single. With parties with her friend/s. So Rhett gave her the out to choose. After everything he had to do just because she wanted him to do it. He gave her space to make up her mind.
The author wrote this h to be unlikeable. For me it didn’t change in this book. The good thing though is that Rhett is not made to live the life of a polygamist here.
I randomly came across When You’re Home one day on my kindle app. I managed to read both books in 2 days and was devastated when I realized that the last hadn’t come out yet. I’m very pleased to say that this was my favorite out of all three. It took me 3 hours to read and I couldn’t be happier with the ending. I can’t wait to read more from Abby and I hope everyone else enjoys it as much as I did. 🥰
“Part of me always knew that the boy who held my hand through the gap in this fence all those years ago would also be the one to help me patch it up and make it whole again.”
When You're Gone by Abby Millsaps is everything I could have wanted in conclusion to the Hampton Hearts series.
Tori and Rhett have frustrated the heck out of me for 2.5 books (in a good way) and this book pulled it all together and made all the previous frustration 10000000% worth it!
❤️My love for Jake has only grown throughout this series.❤️
💔😡 Fielding Haas has greatly disappointed me 😡💔
Abby's writing pulls you in and doesn't let you go.
This story is angsty and entertaining and SPICY and keeps you on edge needing to know how everything is going to play out.
These Characters, This Story, Wow! Abby Millsaps is Amazing!!!
These characters have been put through everything possible in this Hampton Hearts series. I hVe felt every emotion I could feel. I’ve been up and loving them and then so mad I wanted to throw my Kindle. However, the bumps and challenges make their story raw and real. You feel for them. You relate to them. I am sooooo ready for Fielding to get a book, he is my favorite out of all these characters. A lot goes on with this crew, but it makes them stronger. Read this, fall in love with this series just like I did!!!
Friends to lovers Book 3 in the Hampton heart series
They has been in love with Tori forever. Tori is feeling empty lately after everything. Something big happens that affects them. Rhett tells Tori “you have to figure this out for yourself, Tori.”
The love they have for each other is so strong. Just when something happen along the way it can change you. You can still be you just reach another point to grow. Or you can loose yourself? Are they going to grow together or apart. I definitely recommend this series. 15/10
Abby Millsaps really pulled on my heartstrings with this series. ROLLERCOASTER!! I was happy, sad, SO MAD, and jealous (because I mean that Golden Boy is yummy, right?). I absolutely loved this series! I feel so connected to these characters, and I really hope to see what the future holds for my two favorites in Jake and Maddie’s books!

*ARC received from author in exchange for my honest review* I am so sad this series has come to an end! I read the first two books in one day and anxiously awaited the release of the third. Tori and Rhett’s story is so unique to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The third book was a rollercoaster! Abby was right to warn us that Tori will make you want to throw your book during When You’re Gone. I loved loved loved Rhett and Jake in this book though! I don’t want to say much else, as to not give anything away. Thank you Abby for giving us such a great series!
This is the final book in the Hampton Hearts series and I felt an enormous amount of all different emotions through this story. This book is not smooth sailing to the finish line.
Tori frustrated me - although I get her mental state given all the changes she put her body through. Fielding continued to cause rising tension between Tori and Rhett. I was actually heartbroken for Fielding (I know, I know - not the popular opinion) I hate that everyone just dropped him after his melt down, although I understood why it would no longer be reasonable for Tori to continue to connect with him.
This series gave me an even larger love for Jake! - already loved him from his books. He is the definition of best friend, and so strong and steady - always there. I do wish he could have shown some of that to Fielding - but I get where his loyalty is (as it should be).
Rhett showed such a huge amount of maturity and growth in this book. I loved that he finally put Tori in her place and realized he was worth more than what he was getting from her. - And finally demanded it (in a Rhett way).
I love how Tori finally put her big girl pants on and pulled her life and future together. So much growth in these characters!
All the ups and downs in this series made the ending so much more worth it. - To see Rhett and Tori get their HEA!
