Roberto Clemente was one of my heroes growing up on a farm north of Pittsburgh. I can remember summer evenings lying on the floor of our farmhouse listening to the Pirate ballgame and imagining how Clemente would jump and catch and bat. I was also lying on the floor listening to the radio when the announcer interrupted with breaking news on his plane going done. It was the first time in my life I cried over someone's death - marked me forever.
A wonderful recounting of a wonderful man. For a kids book, it covers a lot of ground and nicely touches on the racism that Clemente faced. A good book that stresses solid values to kids.
I read, “We’ll Never Forget You Roberto Clemente”, by Trudie Engel. This book is about Roberto Clemente who becomes a baseball player and what he did in his baseball life. My favorite part is when Roberto Clemente saw the baseball game and he liked the sport. He told his dad, I want to be a baseball player. I like this part because his said it and he did it, he used his time to do his dream, and did not just talk about it. I think the author wrote this book because Roberto Clemente is very important for baseball and maybe Trudie Engel thought other need to remember him, so she wrote it down. I connected with this book because like Roberto Clemente who practiced really hard because he liked baseball, I like hockey and I practice very hard. Roberto Clemente wanted to be the best possible pitcher, and so he always gave himself more practice time. I want to get better at shooting the puck, and so I practice more. I learned from this book that if you want to get better at something, just use more time and work harder. Roberto Clemente started late at baseball, and so he just used more time to practice and practice. I think I can remember this book because it taught me to work harder if I want to better at something.
I thought of this book as a book you could learn from. How segragation really hurt people.I loved this book a lot and I highly reccomnd this book. Nimesh Avashia
