They tried to cover up the wrong case. Allie Grecco will make them pay.
Allie Grecco is living a double life. Thoughtful friend, office drone, and girly college student by day, she becomes a deadly hunter by night, lurking New York City’s seediest alleys to eliminate scumbag predators the cops can’t—or won’t—catch.
Since her discharge from the military, it’s the only thing that keeps the nightmares at bay. But everything changes when Allie realizes she’s not the only hunter out there.
When one of her sting operations is interrupted by another ex-military operator, Allie learns a secret about her day job at Soldiers for Hire, and is soon put to the ultimate test... a case that could alter the course of her life forever.
A civil rights lawyer is missing, and the cops have declared her dead. It smells like a cover-up. Allie Grecco won’t have it. Not on her watch.
Rising From the Ashes is book one of Katy Pierce’s Allie Grecco series, perfect for fans of L.T. Ryan. A thrilling roller-coaster ride of one soldier’s journey to face her demons—vigilante-style.
Katy is an outspoken, cynical, born and raised New Yorker, that’s not afraid to aim her writing where others steer clear of. In a perfect world, Katy'd be writing books 24/7, since it’s the ultimate opportunity for her to blend her most twisted and thrilling thoughts with her passion for creating page-turning novels for her readers. With every new book of hers that gets published, she feels she can breathe just a little bit deeper, so, she vows to keep at it for as long as humanly possible, for as long as her audience will have her, and for as long as her husband and two kids don’t vote against her in their secret weekly tribal council.
This book is about a vigilante female ex-ranger with PTSD.
I wanted to like this book, but it has some issues for me.
What I liked: -The premise was interesting. -The action was good.
What I didn't like: -It is hard to believe that sliders with PTSD would be recruited to be vigilantes. PTSD is a very serious mental issue, living on the edge and they are being encouraged to beat up and kill bad people in the US?
Interesting premise and characters. Allie is a great lead and female character. I am torn on the direction of Daniel and Phoenix and their character and backstory. It seems like great friends, but call me crazy I think there were hints of an unhappy Phoenix. I did have some trouble following the different roles at times, but as I got into the hang of the story the masks and personality made sense. The ex-ranger part was fascinating and her trauma heartbreaking. The ending was great and I look forward for see how her work, friend and maybe more personal relationships develop. Also, heads up there is an intriguing cliffhanger!
I like this new author and her intriguing ex military badass, Grecco. I am fortunate to be on the ARC team for Katy Pierce and can tell you, you're going to want her books! The protagonist is an ex soldier named Allie Grecco, or Grecco, which is what she prefers. She doesn't suffer fools lightly, in fact would rather beat them to a pulp, but is her new job going to tame her down? I am loving this character and all her flaws. The growth from the prequel to this, the first book tells me I will want to read each and every story.
I had doubts about liking this type of book, but let me tell you...it rocks. Mary Stone recommended her and all I can say is I am addicted. So glad that I found her books. I thought that I would get it for my husband but now I can't wait to read everything that she puts out.
Well this is a new series for me. I'm definitely going to continue reading. Looking forward to book 2. Complicated, compelling characters with intriguing histories. Looking forward to learning more.
Allie Greco is a troubled veteran Ranger discharged under less than honorable circumstances. She works for Soldiers for Hire a firm created to help veterans assimilate into non-military life. Allie has3 personas: roommate and college student; hard worker; and nighttime vigilante. She has bottled up emotions after having suffered female discrimination by her fellow rangers. Her PTSD lurks below the surface and strikes when she sees other women abused or threatened. Her bosses recognize that by rechanneling her aggression they could help Allie and their undercover missions. But she must pass the test.
What is the test? Will it benefit Allie? Will she learn how to channel her underlying aggression? You will have to work your way through the twists and turns of the test to see if she succeeds. Great job Katy. Looking forward to the next chapter.
RISING FROM THE ASHES is the first installment in the Allie Grecco series and my introduction to the author, Katy Pierce.
Allie Greco is a very troubled veteran discharged under less than honorable circumstances. She's haunted by nightmares of murder and dissapointment in her fellow brother's- in-arms. Now the only thing that will appease her demons is to hunt and eliminate the predators that justice can't or won't. A complex character with human flaws, Allie works for Soldiers for Hire, a firm created to help veterans assimilate into society. When she is given the chance to do her hunts semi-legally she jumps at the chance.
This is a great series beginning and it will leave you waiting for the next installment in this new series!
I did receive a copy from the author and this is my honest and freely given review.
Rising From The Ashes is the first book in the Allie Grecco series. After being less than honorably discharged from the military, Allie is working for Soldiers for Hire. Allie has anger issues that stem from what happened to her in the military along with having a troubled childhood. She suffers from nightmares and PTSD.
Allie has been serving justice on those who hurt others. Her boss finds out about her vigilante activities and instead of firing her gives her a test to see if she is able to join forces with them. It appears Soldiers for Hire also has a section that serves justice on criminals.
Allie’s character is very complex and it was hard to like her at first. She grows on you. The book is well written and the characters are interesting. There is a cliffhanger which I wasn’t expecting. Looking forward to the next book.
What made me interested in reading this debut novel from Katy Pierce was a mystery starring a female veteran dealing with PTSD issues. Now I have some issues, but Grecco handles them much differently than I do and that is where Soldiers For Hire comes in. Grecco has multiple identities in her life and by compartmentalizing is how she survives. When she makes a decision to track down a serial rapist, she unknowingly starts knocking down the walls that separates her identities. This is not a bad thing, but it can be a very hard experience.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.

An alert of a serial kidnapper on a college campus. Apparently, this guy takes them, uses them, and dumps them back to where he found them. Could Allie Grecco do something to stop this sick creep? The best thing about this was how the investigators go undercover to lure the kidnapper at a bar. It was cool how she went all Nikita on the guy. But one thing I don’t get was: someone knew who the perpetrator was all along? The son of a politician? Looks like Allie caught the guy…so where was the motivation for the rest of this story?
This had a nice narrative and there were some good parts here and there, but this wasn’t quite what I was expecting.
An okay read, but I’m not sure I’ll continue the series.
Allie Grecco is a vigilante for the right for people who get no justice from the police. Grecco is an ex-military operative that was done wrong and left to suffer her PTSD and nightmares alone. Grecco leads a double life of an ordinary college girl and works at an agency to help other Veterans that suffer PTSD and separation from the service. Her nights full of taking care of the low life that are getting away with their crimes against others. Until the night she is found by her boss taking down one of the lowlifes. Little did she know it would lead her to another job, one she would love! I received this book as an ARC, but I will definitely put more of Katy Pierce's books in my library.

Facing a lifetime of abuse,, Allie goes to the Fight for Good. Some say she had plenty of Hats to keep her busy.. Her work hat, her Friend hat,, her fight to clean up the streets hat, and Finally a Sort of Soldier for Good.. Finding the men who abused others, who stole from some to profit for themselves,, these are the ones who made her Life's Work plentiful.
This is a gritty book but such a page turner I really enjoyed it and devoured it in one session. I needed to see where Allie got to, there were enough questions left though for the next instalments which I can't wait for.
It was really good to see a strong female protagonist who wasn't putting up with any rubbish.
I was given an advance copy by the author but this did not impact my review.
Book #1 in the Allie Grecco series is awesome. I really love Allie. She is a very complex individual. I love that she’s getting less rigid and more comfortable with others. This is going to be one of my favorite series. And…wow…that cliffhanger!! Can’t wait for the next addition. *this honest review is based on a complimentary copy from the author*
It seems I'm going to get hooked on another serial. Oh, well. I'll muddle through. Allie's debut was excellent. Raw, emotional, insecure and tough, That's Allie. See you next time, girl! I'm glad I answered Mary Stone's call out for her friend. Thanks for a good read, Katy.
Allie has been hurt and ruined and now she has a second chance to use her skills to bring justice for those that can’t do it for themselves. She has a commander and a mentor. I’m really enjoying the character building and finding out more about Allie. There’s definitely more to her childhood and I can’t wait to learn about it. Looking forward to the next book.
Being the first book in this new series I really enjoyed it. It not like my usual thriller that I read but it had enough suspense to keep me reading. I can't wait for the second book to come out. I recommend this book
This is part of a series, but it ended in a satisfying place, and left enough unanswered to keep you interested in the next in the series. If you’re put off by cussing then this probably isn’t for you. But it does go with the characters and their state of mind.
This book kept my attention. I am looking forward to reading the next one. To see more of the adventures of Allie, Phoenix, and Daniel. So glad I have the next book and don't have to wait to see what choice Allie makes based on her text message.
I was wrong thru most of the book. How intense the reveal of the peep was awesome. I am going on to next boo. Allie is great. Daniel sounds very interesting also.
This is a great beginning to new series and my first introduction to Katy Pierce, author. This book leaves you wanting more. The next book can not come soon enough. Must read
I am so glad Mary stone recommended I read this book. I absolutely loved it. I now have a new Arthur to follow. I look forward to her next book. I highly recommend this book.
This being the authors first novel, all I can say is WoW! An awesome read from beginning to end. Can’t wait to see where this leads into future stories.
At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book....but a few pages into it I was hooked. Kind of a cliff hanger. But I will follow the series.,
