The story and struggles of Malta's former Prime MInister. What made him who he is. An insight into the man so loved and so hated at the same time, his struggle for Malta's independence and freedom. His personal life and the person he became....
Engaging and paints a really good picture of Mintoff's background. In that sense it is great for giving an insight in to what made the man and what made him tick. However, I felt like all the interesting elements of his premiership are given a whistle stop tour at the end. It would have been better to explore those in greater detail and spend a little less time on his upbringing. That said, I definitely came away feeling I had a better understanding of the man that made modern Malta.
A good book which gives insights on Malta' ex-Premier Dom Mintoff. The influence of his mother, schooling, being a Rhodes scholar at Oxford University and his struggles with the British, the integration or independence endeavour and his stewardship in gaining freedom for Malta in 1979. It also delves on his personal life, his married life and his old age which affected him immensely.
An essential book to have for Maltese history buffs. It provides a very detailed analysis on the life of arguably the most influential politician in Malta. Highly recommended.
