Set in 1978 during “The Troubles” in Northern Ireland, this prequel novel to The O’Brien Tales tells the story of two young people whose love will inspire the generations to come.
Sean O’Brien is a new Garda Officer assigned alongside his brother to work the streets of Dublin. With strong ties to their family and native homeland, they begin to carve their place in the world.
Sorcha Mullen is a midwifery student facing the challenges of a young Catholic woman living in West Belfast. Fiercely independent, she is consumed with her career, refusing to let the political turmoil and conflicts in her city interfere with her dreams of being a midwife.
They come from two vastly different Irelands, sharing a border but worlds apart. After a chance meeting, the attraction between them is undeniable. As the romance intensifies, Sorcha flees from her feelings and returns to her work in the North. But when she finds herself trapped on the wrong side of the peace walls during a bombing campaign, Sean travels into a war zone to rescue the only woman he’ll ever love.
Stacey Reynolds began writing after a trip to Europe, where she was bewitched by the coastal counties of Western Ireland. She lives on the coast of North Carolina with three of her five children and her dashing husband, a retired Marine Officer. I don't write reviews ever. The series of books is different. The author makes you feel everything in her writings. I feel I know the each and every person in this book. I said to my husband I want to go to Doolin, Ireland and visit the O'Brien family. This was the last book in the series and I was sad that it ended. This author is the best author to make you feel. You see the co!ors, smell the ocean, and feel just what the pain or the happiness of each character. Thank you for this series.
I myself am an OB RN,and a fan of all the O'Brien stories! This was an amazing historical telling of the troubles.I also have Irish ancestors,so these stories that include GArlic phrases are so special.Keep them coming!
I have read this series many times over. They are so compelling. Each book pulls you in and has you struggling and rooting for each couple as their story evolves. The Irish Midwife brings you the beginning of this family. It is full of discovery, challenges, determination and true love. I can't wait for the next book.
This is another winner. Stacey continues to surpass her previous books and this one is amazing. Going back in time to when it all started was so well done and engaging. Her character development is on point and brings me in with every installment. You won’t be disappointed. A great summer escape.
This has been a favorite series of mine from the very beginning. Now, the author has taken us back to before we started and given us the love story of the patriarch and matriarch of this wonderful Irish family that have come to mean so much to her readers. I eagerly await the next book!
I highly recommend this book . The way Reynolds's writes, you feel like you are watching the story. There are two important aspects of this book that stand out. It takes place in a time of history that we know very little about. How the Troubles effected the local citizens. Learning about the characters who appear as adults in the first books makes you understand the depth of their relationship . I loved getting to know Katie and so sorry for her devastating losses in her life. A+++
I have put off reading genre this story for some time now..it was never the right time or something else came up, but I realized that TODAY was the day. I enjoyed reading about Sean and Sorcha so very much. Reading about the trials and tribulations that they had to endure to be together was heart-wrenching yet so very Beautiful!! It's definitely a book you should read... ASAP
I have read all six of the O’Brien Tales and they never disappoint. Each have compelling characters, lush setting, riveting storylines ( not to mention hot sex that even a grandmother like me can read without too much cringing.) I particularly enjoyed reading Sorcha and Sean’s love story for they are where it all began.
Like all of her novels, the characters come alive and you really care about them. I also love the sense of time and place she evokes helping to draw the reader even further into the story.
I was so excited to see this book was the prequel to the stories that I loved so much! I kept thing while reading the other books that I had hoped that we would get the full story of Sean and Sorcha. I lived this book so much!
These books just keep getting better and better.I am so in sync with your stories, I knew Mick was a spirit as soon as he appeared. I am ready for the next book. Thank you.
I especially loved the side story of a man who loves his city so!!!! A beautiful story of love and legacy. And of course lots of heart felt tears. Bravo again.
I love this flashback to Sorcha and Sean. Sorcha is SO strong. Just like all the O'Brien mates of course. I love her fiery spirit and her push to help others in the face of adversity knowing she can. Sean is amazing and I love his relationship with William.
This was another amazing story. If you started from the beginning getting to hear how the parents Sorca and William got married and how their life got started was amazing and an absolute heart squeeze
I love all of the O'Brien Tales and have read every single one. I actually listen to them on Audible and love the Irish accent and all the characters in every book. They have become friends that I cannot bare to let go, so I have listened to all the books three times.
Another beautiful story. At a terrible turning point in Northern Ireland the story began. I enjoyed this story very much. A wonderful start to a great family. Loved it !
A hold on to your seat. Going back to the beginning of Sorcha and Sean was excellent! I have enjoyed the whole series so far. Can't wait to read more of the O'Brien family.
Another enjoyable book in the O’Brien Tales. This time about the mother we know and live —Sorcha and her life learning midwifery in Northern Orekand and meeting Sean O’Brien.
