Certainly Not a "Love" Story . . .
Arisa, because a childhood illness weakened her heart, led an overly sheltered life. Her mother never let her experience anything, instead forcing her to stay home, even when the doctors said she was out of danger now. When her mother became ill, Arisa cared for her and again never experienced life. After her mother’s death, Arisa had nowhere to go and no job opportunities. So her neighbor, Inia, suggested signing up for the Centauri Brides program. But when Inia became ill before departure, Arisa was substituted as Kyros’ bride to replace Inia.
Kyros had come from a big family, all of whom were killed in an enemy attack while he was away. Now he wants a dozen children of his own to replenish his family line. He requested a strong, sturdy woman, and he build their home with many bedrooms to accommodate his plans. When he met Arisa, he clearly has no idea how to treat a bride, especially a human. His expectation for unquestioning obedience and no consideration of her feelings or thoughts was not what this shy inexperienced human needed. To go from a lifetime of servitude to more of the same with her uncompromising mate is not acceptable. When he was told his original matched bride was recovered and available now, would he choose her instead?
This was obviously not a good book for me. I positively do not like discipline, punishment, or spanking themes, feeling they are absolutely inappropriate. For me, it adds absolutely nothing of value to the story, turns my stomach, and fills me with outrage. I am not a prude, but this for me is OTT and ruins what could have been an excellent story. Please, stop adding kinky nonsense that is just plain nasty and unnecessary to the story. I lost all respect for both characters. When you want someone to just LOVE and respect you, you don’t need a punishing “Master” to tell you how you will obey or the threatened punishment will begin! That’s not love, it is brutality! It is also ludicrous in an alien sci-fi scenario to have a powerful alien male mercilessly beating a much smaller human to demand thoughtless obedience. This is not the behavior of a loving mate. Barbarian is far too gentle a word for this. (And where is the trigger warning for this abusive kink which is far more offensive than other behaviors that make the list????)
