Certainly Not a "Love" Story . . .

Arisa, because a childhood illness weakened her heart, led an overly sheltered life. Her mother never let her experience anything, instead forcing her to stay home, even when the doctors said she was out of danger now. When her mother became ill, Arisa cared for her and again never experienced life. After her mother’s death, Arisa had nowhere to go and no job opportunities. So her neighbor, Inia, suggested signing up for the Centauri Brides program. But when Inia became ill before departure, Arisa was substituted as Kyros’ bride to replace Inia.

Kyros had come from a big family, all of whom were killed in an enemy attack while he was away. Now he wants a dozen children of his own to replenish his family line. He requested a strong, sturdy woman, and he build their home with many bedrooms to accommodate his plans. When he met Arisa, he clearly has no idea how to treat a bride, especially a human. His expectation for unquestioning obedience and no consideration of her feelings or thoughts was not what this shy inexperienced human needed. To go from a lifetime of servitude to more of the same with her uncompromising mate is not acceptable. When he was told his original matched bride was recovered and available now, would he choose her instead?

This was obviously not a good book for me. I positively do not like discipline, punishment, or spanking themes, feeling they are absolutely inappropriate. For me, it adds absolutely nothing of value to the story, turns my stomach, and fills me with outrage. I am not a prude, but this for me is OTT and ruins what could have been an excellent story. Please, stop adding kinky nonsense that is just plain nasty and unnecessary to the story. I lost all respect for both characters. When you want someone to just LOVE and respect you, you don’t need a punishing “Master” to tell you how you will obey or the threatened punishment will begin! That’s not love, it is brutality! It is also ludicrous in an alien sci-fi scenario to have a powerful alien male mercilessly beating a much smaller human to demand thoughtless obedience. This is not the behavior of a loving mate. Barbarian is far too gentle a word for this. (And where is the trigger warning for this abusive kink which is far more offensive than other behaviors that make the list????)

Another book in the Centauri Brides series. Arisa doesn't know what to expect when she meets Kyros, and Kyros really does not have any idea on how to properly treat a partner. He expects immediate obedience & subservience without offering any support or affection. It follows the same general path as the other books in this series. Hot steamy scenes, misunderstandings, reconciliation & a HEA. A quick steamy read, with elements of BDSM.

Need More 3 1/2 Stars

This one for me, needed more. I don't know, but Kyros & Arisa shouldn't have gotten together. He really fell for Inia, Arisa's neighbor/friend, via the hol. They should've just waited it out and not have "eased their needs". It would've probably been a different story if it had been the original matched couple. ;-) On to the next! #HappyReading ♥

I received an Advanced Reading Copy from the Author for an honest review.

HUGE miss for me. I've liked...the other books, and will still read them for sure. However this one..............was pretty infuriating to read, with Kyros. Also warning, there is OW drama going on with Kyros. "Technically" it's not cheating er...but I'll go into details on that.

I knew there'd be the usual d/s stuff - but with this book and how Kyros is...ugh. Arisa is sheltered and now going out to be a bride since her career couldn't take off. She doesn't know what to expect, since she's a virgin but is super excited for that prospect - which is fine that's okay for me to understand as a reader for Arisa's POV.

Kyros WAS going to get another different bride, and there's a long description of how he's watching the other woman he was going to get with...getting it on. I guess I forgot about the holos, where they see holos of them getting it on with their future bride - but whoa did NOT expect to read our ML getting it on with someone else...even if it was a holo. Anyways he's dissapointed with finding out Arisa's going to be his bride because she looks weak and he wants a dozen kids.

So put those two together? Kyros on his first meeting says word by word to Arisa "romance first" "oh you need this" "oh I forgot to spank you first" - which okay he's an awkward ML...sort of.......trying.............but of course that would make Arisa feel like WTF so she cries.

Now this is where as a reader I thought, OH Kyros is going to stop since she's crying...but nope. They keep going. So then it's like well..........torn since Arisa is also torn with being confused for feeling good, but there's no emotional aspect.

If you were just reading this for the steam scenes and somehow can get out of Arisa's head (since you feel sad for her and also torn) - this was hot. But there's too much crap going on with Kyros and to go into spoilers of the OW... uh

Basically he learns he can get his original bride back, which also I must have missed but is Arisa's friend?...but anyways Kyros goes through entertaining the thought of trying out BOTH. It's not explicitly said till later when he's at the station to pick the girl up...but wtf. Like...what??? Sure he says in his mind how crazy and selfish he is, but Kyros is still there.

I also probably had missed that the original bride was Arisa's friend, so when I went back to double check that...it just made the early scene of Kyros talking on and on about Irina doing steamy stuff to him - gross as a reader to know. I'm not saying that Kyros is wrong since he isn't cheating on Arisa (in the beginning), it was just a scene that really was NOT necessary as a reader to have. It made me see Kyros as someone whom was really just looking for someone to have hot steam with, and that's all he wanted. On top of that all his time with Arisa was that so..... what was shown to me as a reader about Kyros, was that he was not a good guy at all and if he tried - it was motivated by his own steamy reasons.

Arisa - she had her moments of naivety, but it does just go to that she's also just not experienced so she didn't know what to do. My heart felt so sad for her when she still decided to enjoy what she can with Kyros and then leave, KNOWING he's going to pick up her friend.

The redemption was pretty much nonexistent, if anything the scene of the other guys telling Kyros how messed up he was for doing what he did - gratifying. But that's all you really get. Arisa and Kyros get a quick HEA and there's just a lot of loose ends that were presented that didn't get tidied up. Such as Arisa getting a job/new life career? Or Kyros at least having a moment LEARNING more about Arisa as a person outside of her body?

Great premise, the blurb was interesting too, but it didn't deliver even on that and went an entirely disappointing way.

Captivating addition to the series, very different characters and plot
I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this book and do not want to give away too much detail so spoiling the read for others. Arisa is a complex character that has been more or less incarcerated from the world through no fault of her own, an over protective and also very selfish mother who simply wanted to ensure she had no friends and every hour was dedicated to caring for her needs alone.
Fortunately, she had made friends with the next-door neighbour and they has become good friends and it was Inia who had persuaded her on the death of her mother to leave earth and travel with other single women searching for new lives, love and family on a planet wit Centauri warriors as their brides.
However when Inia had fallen ill just before departure Arisia who had also been accepted agreed to take her place and was matched with Kyros who is not unkind or uncaring but at time is neglectful of her feelings but this may simply be that he is not used to humans, however this can still hurt especially when you are millions of miles away from earth with a group of people you have never before met, however the females were all kind and friendly and went out of their way to make her feel welcome.
Kyros has come from a family where any digression was dealt with severely and is somewhat awestruck when his tiny mate objects and defies him when he lays down restrictions and rules which is something he never anticipated. When he is informed that his original female has now recovered and if he wishes after the 30-day rule could have Inia his original expected mate.
What is he to do?
Read this wonderful book it will hold you attention from beginning to end.
I do not want to spoil the plot so will say no more about the three of them, I assure you that you will enjoy every single moment of this book.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

While I’ve enjoyed many of the Centauri Brides books, Dauntless missed the mark for me, mainly because the protagonists’ setup and actions just didn’t make sense. Anisa is “swapped out” at the last second for another bride (this is revealed in the first chapter, so no spoiler), but that didn’t jibe with the “testing to find your perfect mate” concept that’s been the bedrock principle of this series. Having Anisa just “work” with an alien who’d been matched to her friend and next-door neighbor stretched credulity.

And Kyros, her hero, is particularly clueless. Some of that was endearingly silly, such as his belief that an adult-oriented hologram would reflect exactly how a human woman would behave (yes, Kyros has a LOT to learn). But there was one choice Kyros made late in the book that basically destroyed his character for me. I couldn’t forgive him for that choice, and it made the HEA unworkable.

And if this book had more to it, perhaps Dane and Richards could have redeemed Kyros, but there wasn’t enough time for that to occur. Indeed, a lot of Dauntless felt like it needed more. There are multiple threads that are introduced but not fully followed through, like Anisa’s thoughts on the kind of job she can do in her new world. They appear and then there’s no resolution to them.

I’ve enjoyed so many books by Dane, and this Centauri series has been fun to read. Alas, Dauntless just didn’t work. When you can’t buy the hero as a hero at the end of a romance, It’s a misfire. Let’s hope future books in this series get back on track.

Good world building. I liked the premise of this book. Arisa had a weak heart from a childhood illness. Even though her heart got stronger, her mother was strict and kept her sheltered, always believing her too delicate for public school, sports, or to be out in the world. When her mother died after a long illness, leaving her destitute, she is convinced by her friend Inia to join her in signing up to be a Centauri bride and leaving Earth to live on another planet with her new mate. Both women are accepted, but when Inia falls ill right before departure, Arisa takes her place with the mate Inia was matched with. Kyros had been a part of a large family before they had been killed. He signed up for the program to find a strong mate and have at least a dozen children. Sent in Inia's stead, Arisa wouldn't be the strong, obedient wife he thought he was going to get, but the more time he spent with her, the more she worked her way into his heart. When he gets news that his original mate Inia had recovered and was on her way to him, he has to choose who will be his bride.

I didn't really like certain choices/actions that were made in this book by Kyros. He expected things a certain way from a mate that just irked me, and I didn't like his behavior and hypocrisy. I didn't really warm up to either character. There were a few opened-ended questions I had that weren't answered, and the ending was too abrupt for me. An interesting premise, but not exactly as I would have liked it. 3 stars.

Arisa, through no fault of her own, have been kept in a bubble for most of life. Kept away from friends, experiences basically life in general by her mother who wanted to keep her with her. Now that her mother has died she has nothing. She is as isolated as you can get really aside from the having managed to become friends with the girl next door, Inia. It is Inia who persuades Arisa to join the bride program along with herself. Let's face it there is nothing much left on Earth for her, so she agrees. When Inia falls sick Arisa takes her place on the ship and is assigned Kyros, the male who Inia was due to take as her husband. Kyros is not a cruel or unkind male although he can be unthinking and he is disappointed when he first see Arisa. He was anticipating a buxom dark-haired human and instead he is given a slight blonde one who looks no bigger than a child. He's never really known affection so he finds it hard to show it. He has also been raised harshly with strict rules which he expects Arisa to follow and he is rather taken aback when she defies him. Having just left a life where she had no say with what she did to come to start afresh only to be given more restrictions was more than she could accept. Kyros is dumbfounded by her resistance. Still all seems to be going well until he is approached and advised that Inia is now better and that he could swap back. What to do?

I enjoyed this book and there is a few mixed emotions that goes along with it and choices that are made are not always the right ones. Arisa has a heart condition that has stopped her from doing stuff that she wanted to do but it was mostly her domineering mother that kept her sheltered from everyone until she passed away leaving penniless and not sure what to do now when her neighbour Inia tells her that she has joined the Centauri brides program for a better life and Arisa decides to join as well and they are both excepted and Inia is matched first but when she is due to leave she fall I’ll and asks Arisa to take her place and she agrees. Kyris has lost everyone he has ever loved to a vicious enemy the destroyed Arythios now starting over on Centauri he wants a wife and plenty of kids and so he has been matched to a human female and will arrive soon. When Arisa arrives she is shocked at how gorgeous her new mate is but he has some rules that she objects to and defies him which drives him crazy and then he learns that she is not the original mate he was matched to and she is now on her way to him and he has 30days to either keep Arisa who he is falling for or take on his real match Inia. What does Kyros do now and who will he choose in the end Arisa or Inia. Get this book to find out what happens between them all.

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. It was both a thrill and humbling experience as both Kyro and Arisa are given a reality check that is now their new normal. After all dreams are just that dreams, after all the real world needs to be more flexible when dealing with the heart.

Leaving everything behind, Arisa is bond for the Centauri planet on a last minute change up. Going in blind to what to expect from her new mate, as she never received a hol vide. With her new friend Arisa has a new outlook on this journey she was nervous to undertake. Where is the romance!?! What she gets was demanding and more obedience, so life may not have changed much after all.  The planet is so amazing that Arisa is in awe of the whole beautiful element of her new home. Was she unwanted and regression was a heavy heartache to bare.
Kyros is all excited about the bride program, he has his future plans all layed out. A strong female to have all for his very own, to pleasure and bring up a much needed family. Someone just like how his own parents had been. Only the bride his gets the shy awkward young historian, unsure of her own footing. When the unexpected happens and the original bride is willing to come come, Kyros has a choice to make.

Arisa was sickly or that is what her mother thought. When her mother passed she really had nowhere else to go. She was health just not as athletic or voluptuous as the other women heading to Centauri. She had a mate and that was what mattered. Kyros had watch the hol of Inas for a while. However she would not be his mate but another. His hopes rested on an obedient mate, to have many children. When these two meet it isn’t roses. I have to say that I wasn’t happy about how Kyros acted from the start. He really didn’t know anything about humans and seemed to take no interest in learning. Arisa was sweet and found his coldness a bit put off. She may not have known a great deal about men in general but he could have been nicer. It slowly got better and things seemed to be great and then the floor dropped out. Another disappointment on Kyros. I mean come on, really all these rules and he is the biggest offender. I was upset. Things did work out but boy I wanted to slap him. Arisa didn’t deserve much of his ire at times. But she learned to stand up for herself. I look forward to reading “Deadly” with Sari.

Arisa had led an extremely sheltered life, kept from the world and others by her controlling mother. When her mother dies she signs up for the Centauri Bride Program. Her neighbor and friend will be the first to go and Anisa figures she can learn about everything from her. Inia gets sick and Arisa is sent in her place. Kyros was ready for Inia to arrive but finds out another bride will be his instead. He complains and wants to wait for Inia but is told he needs to accept his new bride or he may not get one. Arisa isn't what he wants but perhaps she is just what he needs.

The differences in culture and the way Kyros was raised and a "normal" human family behaves caused a few rough spots but as they spent more time together they seemed to work things out. There was a lot of sex and a bit of different anatomy in a good way so if that sort of thing bothers you, don't buy this book. Kyros ends up with a life changing decision to make and he learns his most valuable lesson - love doesn't make you weak, it makes life richer.

a quick easy read with hot steamy scenes and two ppl who have completely different views of the world and relationships. kyros expects to follow his father's example for how to control his family and arisa has not other choice but to be a mail order bride after her mother dies leaving her with nothing. she has been so sheltered her entire life she has no idea what to expect from an alien man being a virgin but takes to the submissive role very quickly despite being a last minute replacement for her best friend who got sick.
misunderstandings and a final unexpected decision leads to new understandings and realizations between this couple who both realize they have to make some changes in their new alien world which leads to a HEA ending.
only drawback for me was there wasn't very much excitement in this book and the conflict was minimal and correctly quickly. a bit more detail in the plot would have made it a bit better but it was still a fun entertaining read.
I received an arc copy of this book and this is my honest voluntary review.

Arisa has been wrapped in a bubble wrap since the time she was born by her mother, due to a childhood illness.
After her mother passes away she has very little resources to take care of herself and following the advice of her childhood friend, she signs up to the bride program. She never dreamed she would come to care so much for the stern warrior who had taken her as his mate.
Kyros has been dreaming of a strong mate that will bare many children and help populate their new home planet.
Arisa is too fragile and tiny to accomplish that goal. Unfortunately, his original bride has taken sick and Arisa had arrived to replace her.
Against his own wishes Kyros comes to care for Arisa, but then he gets the news his original bride is on her way....
This is a fun, very steamy story. As usual with this series, the big warrior is in for a surprise when dealing with his Terran bride, who manages to teach him some lessons about life and love.

This is a story of the new planet Centauri where the Arythian warriors settled after their planet destroyed. Arisa from Earth was to be a bride of Kyros, but she was not the bride initially promised to him. He was supposed to be mated to Arisa's neighbor who got sick and had to delay her trip...but Arisa ended up with Kyros as her mate...although she's not close to Kyros ideal idea of a mate who would have been a sturdy, substantial woman who could bear him many children...not the shy little untouched vixen he needed to teach about pleasing him...but maybe children aren't what he's thinking about when he's away from Arisa...so what happens when his original mated mate arrives in two days??? You will need to read the story to find out...I voluntarily read this book through an Advanced Reader Copy.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is a short story in the Centauri Brides series. Arisa has been sheltered by her mother until she is now all alone in the world. She decides to sign up for the Brides program and ends up being substituted for another woman. Kyros is expecting one woman and got another. He is not sure that he is happy about it. Their story has a lot of misses. Such as misconceptions, misunderstandings and miscommunication. These problems were to the point that they almost ruin it being a romance. I did not like Kyros at all. He never could redeem himself fully in my eyes. There were a lot of ways their story could have played out. It seemed like they had to have a relationship even if things were not really resolved.

Arisa ends up signing with the Centauri Brides and her friend Inia ends up getting sick and Arisa ends up going without her. Arisa is met by Kyros who becomes her mate but she didn't know that Inia was his first choice. Arisa has made all the sacrifice's to become the mate that Kyros wanted but he was still thinking about his father and how he never showed his emotions and Inia and how she might be able to give him lots of children. When Arisa hears what's going on she packs her stuff and leaves. Why would she want to stay and watch Kyros and her friend Inia be happy. Kyros comes to his senses and leaves the space port to go to Arisa. But she's gone. I'm glad that Kyros got a dressing down by his superiors. Does he find Arisa? Will he be able to tell her how he feels? Read and find out.

I love the story. A very heartwarming and tragic story. Arisa had a childhood illness that left her heart weak, though she is better now. Her mother kept her from living her life and becoming independent due to fear. Arisa is on her own now and doesn't know what to do. Her friend and neighbor encourages her to sign up for the Centaun Brides Program with her. She does and when the time comes to leave her friend is sick and cannot go. Kyros lost everyone he cared about and wants a mate and lots of children. He is told to take a different bride because his is unable to come due to illness. He isn't sure about Arisa. A must read story.

"This whole romance thing was far more complicated that it had looked..."

Kyros doesn't know much about human relationships, and while he understands how his family's household ran, he's still trying to decide if that's a model he truly wants to follow.

Arisa was raised by an overprotective mother who found excuses to smother her throughout her childhood, now she's ready to embark on an adult relationship, but struggling to see the difference between domination and smothering.

Can Kyros find the words to help her understand?

This done in one Kindle Unlimited quick read is thinner on plot than most of the stories in this series, yet lands the ending really well, making up for that.

Arisa is urged by her friend and neighbor to sign up for the Centauri Brides Program. Left alone and destitute after her over protective mom's death, she has nowhere to turn. When her friend falls ill and cannot go to her chosen mate, Arisa is sent instead. Kyros is hoping for strong mate to give him a dozen children but Arisa doesn't seem to meet his expectations. Frankly, neither seem to satisfy either of their expectations but they do find a way to work things out other than their sex and his dominance. Kyros has no idea how to show affection or love but will learn when he finds he could lose Arisa due to his lack of experience with feelings. There is a satisfying, well earned HEA in the end.

Arisa has nothing left when her mother died, no money, no job and no people who are her friends.
So when her neighbour tells her about the bride program she joins. Sending her to a new planet and a hot dominant alien who will be her mate.

Kyros gets Arisa as a new bride when the one who was chosen for him can't come. He has a bit of a different lifestyle as Arisa thought, he is even more strict and dominant. I sometimes want him to kick him because of that.

Will he wake up in time to safe what they have together? You have to read this alien bride story to find the answer. If you are into these kind of books, you won't regret reading this.

I liked Arisa and Kyros' story. She comes in place of her friend and ends up being Kyros' bride instead, because her friend is sick and unable to make the trip. I do think it was interesting that they decided to use her in place of the friend instead of finding new husband for Arisa. But it says in the book they aren't sure she will be able to make the trip which may be why that decision was made. In the long run tho they end up being perfect for each other. Arisa changes Kyros and Kyros changes her too. All for the better of course. The ending was a bit heart wrenching, but I won't give any spoilers as to why. You'll just have to get the book and find out yourself!

This book was ok. But it felt like it could have been any contemporary D/s romance and I was looking for more. Other than an anatomical difference which felt like it should matter, but with how little it was mentioned or actually described it felt like a let-down. I haven't read the other books and I wonder if that would make a difference. Despite being labeled as a stand-alone there is next to no world building or background. So overall the couple was fine but I missed having the interesting setting and aliens that I expected.

You never know what you have until it's gone

I love this series. It has adventure, friendships and of course romance. The cheered for Arisa all the way through the book. Caudled by her mother she takes the place of her best friend when she is ill as a bride for a Centauri warrior. She has learned some from the material she has read on her warrior. she was hoping it would work for the 30 days required then she could go back to earth. I hated Kyros right off the bat. He seemed arrogant, hot head and dominant in a bad way. He does get somewhat better but you'll have to read the book for all your answers.

This is one story where I wish it was longer. One fact that the MMC Kyros kept from the FMC Arisa shattered her world and left him torn into two. I guess it was needed so that he can realized what he felt for her.

They were both different person in the beginning: she was unworldly (if that is the right word), he is clueless. I loved that they both grew because they took the courage to be the person they never knew they could be because of the other.

A very enjoyable and interesting quick read with plenty of intrigue, steamy encounter, and with people who have completely different views of the world and relationships. It was interesting to see how Arisa and Kyro were different and yet have such similar insecurities that awaken something in the other one definitely made for a helluva read. Overall a great read. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.

Talk about tug at your heartstrings! Arisa hasn't really had much of a life, because her mother held her back. Now she's embracing life signing up to be a bride, even though she's never been kissed. Kudos wants a strong bride, to have a large family, so when he sees Arisa, he wonders if she'd be able to. But the chemistry between them makes him want more than what he was taught. What a mess, but I couldn't put it down. Loved it!

This is a Centauri Brides story with a Twist, She is sent at the Last minute as a switch as her best friend was supposed to be this warriors Bride and fell ill and Cannot make the trip. Can Fate intervene and help them to end up being perfect for one another??
This is a great read filled with Emotion, Steam and plenty of power exchange.

I love this great series. All the stories are very engaging and entertaining with real and rounded characters. I loved Arisa. She is sweet and shy. Kyro has ideas of marriage and then reality hits. There are plenty of hot spicy sexy scenes and other elements that make this a page-turner in my opinion. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and I very highly recommend it. This story is very well worth reading.

I am not sure why I keep reading this series. The first part of this sequel was good but these stories are a little bit weird to me. This moved so fast in the beginning then the understanding came more in the middle only to be thrown a curve at the end when his promise bride arrives. Poor Arisa must have felt heartbroken. Thank goodness Kyros realized his mistake. Wonder what happened to the friend.
