Graham is a Detective Inspector with London’s Metropolitan police force. He’s a career police officer, an educated, reserved, thoughtful, some might say, complex man.

This box set contains the first eight mysteries in this bestselling series:
The Case of the Screaming Beauty: The prestigious Lavender Bed and Breakfast. It has a rich, Tudor atmosphere, an enviously manicured lawn… And a deadly problem.
The Case of the Hidden Flame: Inspector Graham is hoping for peace and quiet but a suspicious death soon derails his plans. Will eccentric characters, roiling undercurrents, and deceptive coincidences reveal the secrets of his latest mystery?
The Case of the Fallen Hero: As he walks around the imposing Orgueil castle, Graham’s life comes to a shuddering halt when he finds a woman kneeling beside the body of a stricken man. Does the castle hold clues to this complex puzzle?
The Case of the Broken Doll: A missing girl. A broken doll. Dark, deviant secrets. What the inspector finds as he investigates rocks the town, stirring memories long buried and forgotten. Can he uncover what happened?
The Case of the Missing Letter: When a dead body turns up at the local museum, a turbulent family drama becomes an official police inquiry. A trail of scandal and deceit soon spills out of the museum, and leads into the darkest corners of the island and beyond.
The Case of the Pretty Lady: In the wake of a storm, the body of a missing scientist washes ashore. A crime this diabolical takes teamwork to solve. But are four heads really better than one?
The Case of the Forsaken Child: When an undercover cop confides in Graham, he uncharacteristically underreacts. Soon afterward, she is killed in a hit-and-run and Graham's feelings of guilt bubble to the surface. If only he had done more…
The Case of Sampson's Leap: A modern-day death shines a light on a far older case... The murder of three women, nearly two centuries ago. Can the dogged inspector uncover the true fates of all the victims? And can Graham finally reveal the secrets hiding in his own heart to the woman who knows him best...?

The first four books in the Inspector Graham series came as a set. Each story involves a separate police case and how it is solved. Some of the characters overlap. This was a great series and very well written. DI Graham reminded me a little of many a great detective in that something tragic happened in their lives and that angst, propels them to solve crimes to give closure to others. To serve justice where an injustice has occurred.
With characters that grow from book to book and providing insight into their growth it truly makes these stories a fun read.
As the stories reach their climax, I read with anticipation, trying to determine who-dunnit. Was I as sharp as DI Graham? Would I notice the signs and figure out who was guilty and why?
One of the neatest things about each book is the wrap up at the end. There is an "update" if you will at the end that tells you what happened to the perpetrators and other characters in the story. It provides a further glimpse into the lives of the characters and brings them more to life. It also affords closure on the guilty to know how/what happened after they were charged.
I'm onto to her next series, but I do hope to read more in this one as well. Ms. Golden has a flare for detective stories and I can't wait to read more.
As a relentless, but discerning, cozy mystery reader i was thrilled with the inspector Graham mysteries which i was lead to through some others' positive reviews. The mysteries themselves are very well written and interesting. There is a diverse and fun cast of characters, and the author does a wonderful job of actually growing the characters throughout the books. They do not stay stagnant. That is so key! If there is one thing i ever have issue with, and interestingly, i found it a little worse at the beginning of book 8 than even some earlier books, is how rude Graham can be at times. I can find it off-putting and makes it harder to warm to him. Freddie, for instance, who no doubt is an idiot, could be handled much better with a little diplomacy. You catch more flies with honey.... I just find the way Graham treats him very rude and unprofessional. But, on the whole, they're wonderful books and i can't wait to grab the next on the series.
Starting in London, then moving to Gorey on the Isle of Jersey, Inspector Graham manages to solve a wide variety of baffling cases. He also strives to help the less experienced officers working with him learn some valuable lessons in crime solving. He will never allow his own personal demons, such as the loss of his daughter, to influence his investigations and strives to help his officers to learn from his experiences.
Each mystery is complete within itself with great characters and realistic situations. You will not find any sex, vulgarity, or graphic violence in any of the stories. They do, however, have plenty of twists, turns and red herrings to keep the reader engaged to the very end.
I started reading these because they were recommended to me. I got three books in and although they are easy to read, kind of short, kind of fun, I was annoyed at the similar plots.
I mean they don't know anything about the case for 7/8th of the story, then BANG! case solved, and we are never told how they came up with the idea of who the guilty party was or why they did the murder. Except when they confess at the end...
Then Book 3 had this separate side story about hidden and lost art from World War 2. Shrug! i don't know. Anyway, not relevant to the story at all, maybe it'll lead into book 4 but that put me off. I might go back and finish the series, but for now I need something more heart stopping....
This is an amazing offer. I have read every entry in the Inspector Graham series and always anxiously await the next.
I have devoured every book and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one.
Sometimes reviews overuse “page turner”, and “can’t stop”, and “couldn’t put it down”, but the Inspector Graham novels are “page burners” from which you won’t be able to take a break.
In my opinion, these books would make a great television mystery series.
Read them in order and watch the continued development of the characters and gain more insight of them.
I truly hope I don’t have to wait too long for the next…
At first I was unsure about these books. Although set on Jersey there was not much of a description or feel of the island. I have visited the Channel Islands a lot and it seemed strange not to have a better feel of the place described by the author. I feel now that she just wanted a smallish community that she could control. Certainly would not expect an separated police force in a small place like Gory. As the books progressed I began to enjoy them more. The storylines and characters filled out and the last story in the set was the best
This is a great read for young and old. The 8 pack ebook is perfect for a downtime vacation or bad weather break. Good anytime really, but nice to have your week set up in advance with this 8pack download. Each book is a stand alone, all while the characters build and advance with each book. It’s wonderful that the author does a fade out in certain areas, allowing you your own imagination to close it. Nothing to graphic or angst provoking. Good old page turning curiosity will keep you tucked in for hours.
I just finished reading all eight of these books and was sorry to find myself at the end of the series. I really enjoyed them and feel that I have gotten to know the characters, and now I’m ready to read the next book. Being a tea drinker myself, I especially enjoyed the references to Inspector Graham’s fondness for different types of tea.
Books 1-8, I heartily recommend. Every story is different allows for excellent character development. Likeable and believable characters are woven well into fun mysteries. All stories are told without gory details or obscene language. While seriously written there is ample humour and interesting historical facts included. Enjoy
What a fun series! The first book was the weakest. I considered not continuing. But by book 3 I was a big fan. I loved seeing how the different characters grew as the stories continued. Inspector Graham himself had a personal story that was slowly revealed. Each story was different. I’m happy I found this series.
I am a big fan of British murder mysteries. This box set had everything! Although not British, (I had to look up where jersey is) it hits all the spots. I love Inspector Graham and all the side characters. There is no bad language or intense situations. Just great writing that wraps up the case. Highly recommend.
I tore through these at a great rate, helped along by a severe cold. The plots are good and the setting is managed deftly, providing a reliable context, a little bit of history, but never distracting from the main game of detection. On reflection, I think what I most enjoy about the series is the redemptive element. A bad decision, a nasty impulse, even an act of revenge, does not mark a character off forever. People are accepted and given second chances, shaped and supported by community. I’m on to the next one.
This series with DI Graham was, from the 1st book to the last, enthralling, captivating, numerous yet serious to keep my full attention. Not much housework/cooking got done while I read all 8 books because I just couldn't stop reading!
I enjoyed reading the Inspector Graham mysteries. The characters are interesting and well developed. The murders are not gory. Not quite in the cozy mystery category, but close to that style. Good job!
I loved the Inspector Graham mysteries. The way the authors worked on the growth of the characters was magical. Thanks for thus great series, I can't wait for the next installment.
Thourly enjoyed inspector Graham series. The characters were developed to feel like friends and the narrative like conversation. If you enjoy mystery with a light hearty twist you wll enjoy inspector Graham.
Excellent reading. I loved the development of all the characters, especially Graham. I enjoyed trying to solve all the mysteries. I would recommend these books to anyone!!
Refreshing mystery series set in present day time. No helpful retainer, naughty canine or rich heiress in this series! Just honest, intriguing mystery!
I love these books and Inspector Graham series would make a great TV series. I liked the stories and the way you can’t wait to finish one and start another .
I have read books 1-8 and loved them starting on the 9th. Characters and story lines flow well. It’s nice to see the development of the main characters. I especially like the round up at the end of each story, and that things are not left in limbo.
Alison Golden's books reflect a wonderfully creative mind!
I read each of the 8 books in this set. They are amazingly different despite so many similarities-characters and their personal growth, location, and apparent chronology. Yet, each mystery is based on new situations!
