I've got a lot of titles. Ex-cop. Lawyer. Trouble-maker. Raconteur. Bon vivant. But as senior investigator for my law firm, it's my job to kick over stones and see what creepy-crawlies are hiding from the light of justice, and I’m like a bloodhound when I get the scent. If there is a hidden truth to be found, I’ll find it. Or die trying.
The New Orleans setting seemed to be fairly true. The Voodoo Queens? Maybe. I have no familiarity with Voodoo. The scene in the cemetery near the end is tense but not very believable. And the writing was somewhat amateurish. I felt that if I read another statement "chuckled" or "chortled" I would scream, but I managed not to despite numerous opportunities. The author shows promise but needs to study a bit more. This apparently is a first book, and unfortunately it does not entice me to read others in the series.
I enjoyed this story, because the author based it around the city of New Orleans and all the history and traditions that make it a great city. The main character is a Investigator for a major Law firm in New Orleans. A Celebrity cook is murdered and the main suspect is a rival celebrity cook. Great storyline
I thought this was a great book. I was guessing from the beginning all the way until the end. A lot of action, and a fast pace. I would definitely recommend, and I can't wait to read the next book.
The book brought together under age sex, pregnancy, protective older brothers, New Orleans voodoo and finally good private detective work. Who could ask for more. Excellent read.
Fast moving murder mystery in the traditions of New Orleans spirits and empty Graves. Our central character finds that it isn't easy to trace the ghosts of New Orleans.
This book was a fun read that I finished in a few days of reading. It starts out a bit slow but picks up about a third of the way in and doesn't slow down until it's over. I'm interested to check out the second book!
I like this genre of lawyers and investigators who get into all sorts of predicaments. Marcel is an investigator for a lawyer in New Orleans. That's all you need to know. Enjoy.
This story was interesting & eventful! It kept you reading just to find out how he'd solve the problem. The details about the voodoo queens was fascinating & made for some great detail.
I have read several of this authors books. The ones I have read were lawyer related. This was a departure from the ones I previously read but enjoyable.
Awesome characters along with a strong story to match. Marcel had to get to the bottom and I mean bottom to find the killer. I am on to the next in this series....
