Caitie Crowley was in a traumatic car accident on her way home from work and almost lost her life. She couldn’t walk for 10 months. She took that time to write about her experiences and how her faith in God carried her through her pain. This book takes the reader through Caitie’s physical struggle of learning to walk again and her interior struggle of learning to walk with God through the cross. Through Him, you can find hope when it appears hopeless.
In May 2019, Caitie Crowley almost died in an horrific car accident and began a long journey of physical, mental, and spiritual healing. In her book, Stepping Up, she courageously shares her recovery experience to show us what it means to trust God and experience redemptive suffering. In doing so, she offers hope and understanding to all who are going through their own pain and suffering. You are not alone.
I really enjoyed the way this book was written. A quote from Scripture sets the tone for each chapter before the author presents two points of view. First, details culled from a journal kept during the recovery followed by a new perspective written a year later. As she looks back on what she learned from her experience, we see how she developed a new strength of spirit.
If you are curious about redemptive suffering, this is a well-written personal testimony that unfolds it in an easy to follow way.
An inspired story that calls to mind that God can use all things for His Glory.
My college days briefly overlapped with Caitie(I am 2 years younger). While we were more acquaintances than anything, I remembered her fire for Christ. Reading this book, her humility and steadfast faith in the Lord come through every page. It was surreal seeing names I knew, places I grew up around, and realizing that I remembered the local news coverage about her accident(or rather what had caused it). Like many, I have had my own trials, but her hope and consolation in these pages brings healing, healing that comes from Christ through her words. Every Catholic and Peoria area native should read this. I know I will be returning to it many times throughout my life.
This story is a telling journey of a young person’s catastrophic event which propelled her to a deeper understanding of herself and her relationship with her creator. While having a solid formation in faith prior to the event ; She was able to look at suffering in a more personal and deeply spiritual way to give her life meaning based on her relationship her Savior Jesus Christ. She provided many insights for those suffering but also for those who care for suffering individuals; she emphasized the how important empathy and compassion are to all.
So proud of my cousin for sharing the journey and struggles she had to go through after overcoming a horrific accident that made her life truly flash before her eyes. A must read.
All around 5 star read from my cousin and friend, Caitie Crowley. It’s hard not to be moved and completely transformed by her first hand account of a life altering event. Truly inspiring to learn of her personal, physical, and spiritual transformation.
