Russell James has a couple of adventure series on the go at present - the Grant Coleman books which put you in mind of Arthur Conan Dyle, H.G. Wells and Indiana Jones - and the Kathy West National Parks stories. Ravens of Yellowstone is the third in the series and this time, hot on the heels of her scary encounters in Hawaii, Kathy is sent to find out what's going on in Yellowstone National Park. Almost as soon as her feet touch the ground, she is confronted with birds of a far more sinister kind than those in Hitchcock's famous film. These are ravens. Now, as anyone who has ever visited the Tower of London will attest, ravens are clever. Imagine then a raven the size of a condor. One that has undergone a radical genetic modification. Now multiply that by hundreds and our intrepid Kathy West has to outwit and destroy a force that learns quickly, adapts, works as a team and is utterly ruthless. No wonder the collective noun for a group of ravens is a conspiracy. These monsters certainly earn the title.

The Raves of Yellowstone is a fast-paced quick read. The action starts from the beginning and doesn't let up - exactly on point. Loved this and I look forward to Kathy's next adventure. Those U.S. National Parks are certainly hiding some ferocious monsters!

This was a fast and fun read! Hard to put down! I liked the story and how it got a different layer to it toward the end and loved the historic impact on modern times.

I had the chance to meet this author at a horror convention and I’m glad I did. This book was great for Halloween. It may not be about scary clowns or walking zombies but it is absolutely horrifying! The scenes about the ravens and their death are as gruesome, if not more, than any scary movie I’ve seen!

Props to the author for truly spooking me out!

I don't often write reviews, but for this one I have to. I purchased this book at a horror con in Ocala called "Spookala". My family and I love all things spooky so we went to have a good time together. To my surprise, there were authors at this event! Russell was one of these authors. Let me tell you, it is a wholly different experience to hear an author pitch their own books to you! I ended up leaving his table with 3 novels, this being one of them. He did tell me it was part of a series, but that the books didn't necessarily have to be read in order. It's always nerve wracking to read from a new author, because you never know if you'll like their writing style or their storytelling. I'm happy to report that I LOVED THIS! Kathy and Nathan are opposites in personality, but they work well together and make a fun duo. I will say, I prefer Nathan, he is a cinnamon roll and he must be protected at all costs. I have 2 other books from this author that I am extremely excited to get to because if my enjoyment of this story is any indication, I should love the other 2 as well. I also plan to pick up the other 2 installments in this series to get caught up on all things Kathy and Nathan. It was awesome meeting Russell and I can't wait to support him in the future!

Fast Read

This is book 3 in this series and I am still hooked. Kathy and Nathan are the odd couple and work so well together. I really enjoy these books but they end too fast. I cannot wait for the next adventure. Thank you.

Totally is what you’d expect with giant killer ravens being set loose in Yellowstone… but entertaining nonetheless. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I might read another in the series…

I'm raven about this book! Go Kathy and Nathan! Once again this duo has an awesome adventure. Man, I just love being able to look forward to a story that I know I will absolutely get into. The Kathy West National Park Adventure series is just written for me, I'm pretty sure. This one has a bit of a surprise near the end, that I didn't see coming and that is especially cool, but even without that it would have been good. I love the histories that are given (Nathan's specialty) and the wild cryptid threats, the nature (who doesn't love a national park) and interesting characters that I may or may not have a small crush on.

Another "Kathy West National Park Adventure" series installment. Have to say, I did enjoy the story and will continue to read the series.

I like all the history the author provides regarding the various parks in this series. Sometimes the character's reasoning skills seemed lacking but I suppose that makes them more likeable. We all do stupid things, often with the best intentions.

The surprise creature was, yes, a surprise, but felt it was introduced and eliminated pretty quickly which was a bit disappointing.

After reading MAMMOTH ISLAND I wanted to read another book by Russell James. Though this is the third book in the Kathy West series it can be read as a standalone. I didn't feel like I'd been dropped in the middle of a series storyline.

While I enjoyed this book I would have liked it more if it had focused on the huge creatures found in a remote location of Yellowstone National Park. So much time was spent on esoteric details of the Roosevelt Society that the reader could be bogged down and tempted to skip over it to get to the action.

Those Ravens were terrifying in their size, coordination, and viciousness. I look forward to reading CLAWS the first Kathy West adventure.
