Living in Northern Wisconsin is all thirty-five-year-old Rebekah Hayward has ever known. A "good girl" who has never complained and always done as she's told, she loves God; her family; baking; and her minister husband, Ethan, whom she married at the age of eighteen. There isn't a day that goes by where Rebekah doesn't think about her older sister, Dee, who left home when they were children, never to be seen again. Though Rebekah's parents might control her life, they can't control her secret desire to find Dee.Rebekah has other secrets as well: her desire to open her own bakery someday, and her love of and success with playing the lottery-a fact she must keep hidden from Bible-thumping Ethan. She soon realizes, however, that she isn't the only one harboring secrets. Life's Fortune is the first in a four-book series that shares the life, love, family, and friendships of Rebekah Hayward as she embarks on a delayed quest for personal growth, self-discovery, and all the sweetness life has to offer.
Susan Amond Todd has lived in North Carolina for most of her adult life but was born and raised in Neenah, WI. She has two grown daughters, a grandson and a granddaughter.
Her career has been spent raising her daughters, working in banking, and now her passion, writing.
As a young person she enjoyed writing short stories and poetry, always having the desire to pursue more.
Her writing combines her upbringing and love of Wisconsin with that of the south. White Lake and the sequel Return Home, her first two books, are from the White Lake Series. Life’s Fortune is the first book of four in the Life Series.
So where to begin. I never heard of the author before but saw this book listed by local Wisconsin authors and decided why not. So as the book starts off I think oh it is kind of religious because of the church and faith brought in. Then as the story goes on it was drawing me in and I didn’t want to put the book down. I have to say all the twists and turns kept it a page turner. I like how the book ends and everything is brought together. It was fitting that the author took a few of the characters and placed them in her new state of North Carolina. I am looking forward to continuing this series as it was only book 1 of 4.
This was definitely a page turner for me. I was immediately intrigued by the religious upbringing of the main character, being similarly (but not quite as strictly) raised in a fundamental church. I thought at first it might be more of a religious story, but quickly realized that Rebekah had dreams of her own and couldn’t wait to see how those were achieved, due to her past and current circumstances. Her character was fascinating, and the shocking turn of events had me feeling sorry for her, yet happy for her at the same time. I could not put it down, and can’t wait to start the next book in the series.
This book is amazing. It kept my interest from the beginning right up to the end. (and wanting more) I can't wait to read the next three in the series. I know you will really enjoy this book.
I loved this book! The characters are very real and believable and there are interesting twists. I know this is the first of four I’m this series, and I can’t wait for the next one!!!!
This was an intriguing story that kept me turning pages. For those who like w omen's fiction with interesting characters and a solid plot, this book is for you.
