An excellent tool for building Healthy Life-giving Groups, Internationally.

I have known Dr. Alan Ahlgrim for many years through our partnership in ministry in Africa. He is the founder pastor of Rocky Mountain Christian Church (RMCC) in Longmont, Denver, Colorado who has partnered with our ministry organization, Missions of Hope International(MOHI), www.mohiafrica.org. MOHI is a leader in holistic ministry in Kenya and other African countries. At first I just skimmed through the book from a scholar's perspective but an online discussion with Dr. Alan triggered a great interest to dive deeper into the book, and its only then that I realized what a transformative book “Soul Strength” is. This is without doubt a spiritual and psychosocial transformative work that Ahlgrim has put together and anyone that is interested in building healthy and transformative groups, should not ignore. This book by all means lives up to its title, “Soul Strength" and is a great tool to help pastors, leaders and ordinary people to strengthen their soul and to live an accountable and healthy life, and especially when used as a tool for facilitating retreats and groups. This book draws from the great wealth of many years of Dr.Alan’s pastoral ministry and his impactful mentorship of pastors and other leaders in the US but also internationally. Algrim's rich experience, drawn from a diverse tapestry of pastoral and global ministry, makes "Soul Strength” a truly exceptional and globally resonant guide for healthy transformative groups.
After retiring from his long and distinguished tenure as the senior pastor of Rocky Mountain Christian Church in Longmont, Denver, Colorado, Allan Algrim turned his focus to mentoring pastors in the United States. His success in this endeavor, marked by the positive transformation of seasoned and upcoming young pastors, inspired this insightful book. “Soul Strength" is not merely a compilation of theoretical concepts; it is a distillation of Algrim's practical wisdom and the positive impact witnessed in the lives of those he has mentored. His desire to see the knowledge and experience gained from years of ministry benefit pastors not only in the US but also across the globe is a driving force behind the authorship of this book.
As an African leader, I'm excited at the prospects of an African edition of “Soul Strength” for pastors and other leaders to engage with the wisdom within these pages. They will not only tap into the wellspring of Algrim's practical international ministry experiences among the most vulnerable communities in Kenya but also drawing from the reservoir of knowledge cultivated through mentoring pastors in the United States. This unique synthesis of global perspectives creates a resource that transcends cultural boundaries, offering insights that should resonate with the universal challenges faced by pastors worldwide.
The upcoming African edition of "Soul Strength" will be a bridge that connects the wisdom gained from the diverse experiences of Allan Algrim and African pastors, church leaders and ordinary believers. I can only imagine and pray that as they navigate the complexities of ministry, Ahlgrim’s mentorship legacy will inspire and guide all the readers, fostering a deep well of soul strength that will sustain them personally and empower them to uplift their congregations and communities.
May Alan Ahkgrim's wisdom and insights serve as a beacon of inspiration for pastors and leaders worldwide, uniting them in pursuing soul strength and compassionate leadership.

I’m a huge fan of covenant groups. The group I’ve been in over the past two years has been so life giving and the best peer group I’ve ever participated in. Huge hat tip to Ahlgrim for that idea. And the topics he chooses in the book are also very good. My critique of the book is that Ahlgrim seems to write more for the congregant than for a pastoral peer. I’m not sure if that’s because he is repackaging sermons primarily or if he struggles to be able to address his target audience.
Regardless, I highly recommend joining a covenant group.

Such a wonderful memoir and advice from a life well lived. Dr Ahlgrim shares his insight and experience for living and thriving through faith and community. While it starts out a little hard to follow, stick with it! Like a good sermon sometimes it's hard to pack a lot of detail into a small box. We did this for a men's group study and it was very thought provoking leading to great conversations each week. We can all use a little Soul Strength.
