I love stories around the holidays and this was a very special one indeed!
Cora has lost her parents and finds herself alone. She decides to become a mail order bride and travels to the new town of Holiday, Oregon to her bridegroom,
Unfortunately, her groom is nowhere to be found but she is taken in by his father and stays at their ranch and starts to feel like part of a family
Jace, the brother of her groom, is an engineer driving the Holiday Express line train and doing what he loves. But it seems his father is trying to match him and Cora up.
Could this be the answer for Cora and could she fall in love with Jace? Such a sweet, story that warms the heart and left me smiling!
What a lovely start to a new series. I loved Cora Lee for her willingness to find a better life, though it did not begin so well. Jace, his father Grant, and aunt Mae were so supportive of her and treated her better than she had hoped. New friends in Anne and R.C. made Cora Lee want to stay in holiday and find some happiness. With some help from family and friends, Jace and Cora Lee found a way to show their love for each other. I enjoyed this story and recommend it. I look forward to the next in the series.
I received a copy of this story through Xpresso Tours, and this is my unsolicited review.
This was a really good and well written book! Now I'll admit, it took me about 30% of the way in to actually enjoy this and get into it, but once I did I was hooked. I loved the ending! It was great and kind of enthralling towards the last few chapters. The characters are interesting and it instantly grabbed me. I enjoyed the historical aspect of this clean romance novel. I also enjoyed the authors note at the end, where she describes how she was inspired and goes on to talk about the historical accuracy of this book. Overall I really enjoyed this book and wouldn't mind reading the other installments of this series!
I loved the characters in this lovely story. As Cora Lee waits for the brother she came to the town of Holiday to marry, she becomes integrated into a delightful family with characters who warmed my heart. Good plot and a of action when she finally meets the man sho was brought west to marry. A great read.
Sweet historical romance set in 1880s eastern Oregon. Mail order bride Cora Lee is excited about meeting her future husband. But her trip is complicated by a train robbery as she nears her final destination. Clean read.
Cora Lee Schuster is setting out on a cross country journey by train to meet her soon to be new husband. After both of her parents passed away, Cora Lee felt that she didn't have much of a chance of a future or much in the way of prospects. When she stumbles onto a mail order bride advertisement, she figures that is her chance at a bright future. Cora Lee starts corresponding back and forth with her future husband, Jude Coleman, and then sets out by train to meet him and his family in the new town of Holiday, Oregon.
When Cora Lee arrives, her soon-to-be husband is nowhere to be found. The location of Jude is unknown, and nobody seems to want to approach the subject of where he is or what he is up to. Despite that, the Coleman's welcome Cora Lee with open arms and she instantly feels like she's part of the family. The more time Cora Lee spends on the ranch with the Coleman's the more she feels like she is truly at home. This is a mutual feeling and the Coleman's feel the same way about Cora Lee.
What Cora Lee is not anticipating happening is falling for Jude's brother Jace. Now Cora Lee is conflicted as her feelings for Jace grows but she feels an obligation to follow through with her marriage to his brother Jude. Likewise, Jace did not expect to fall for his brother's intended bride. Although he chooses not to say anything, he knows that Jude would not be good to Cora Lee and would not treat her right. Yet at the same time, Jace is not ready to be married. He finds himself equally conflicted as he is developing feelings for Cora Lee but does not want to admit them.
The author has done an amazing job with this period piece set in the late 1800s. She clearly did a lot of research as there is a great attention to detail throughout her writing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and instantly loved the character of Cora Lee. She is the epitome of the down home, honest, sweet, girl next door. I felt like I was right there with her in the kitchen baking up the homemade bread and other sweet treats. I equally loved the character of Jace and loved the fact that he was a train engineer. He is the epitome of the hard-working, down to earth, genuine, and honest man that I think every woman dreams about. After reading about a typical day running a train, I have a whole new appreciation of just how much hard work it went into running a train back in the 1800s. I now realize just how dangerous the work was and how many people it required to run trains back then. I found myself swept up in Cora Lee and Jace's love story wondering what was going to become of the two of them. Would they ever admit their feelings for each other? Would Cora Lee marry Jude? Or would she end up with Jace?
I have always been intrigued by the idea of living a simpler life and often wondered what it would be like living back in the time that this book was written in. While reading this book I felt like I got to experience that first hand with the characters of Cora Lee and the Coleman family. Every scene is described with so much detail and the scenes are so vivid that you feel as though you were in the room with the characters watching them interact with one another. I found myself feeling as though I was part of the Coleman family living on the Elk Creek Ranch. The family had such a sense of bonding and true love for one another. It made my heart all warm and fuzzy. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for book number two in the series, Holiday Heart.
As a wonderful bonus, the author has included a recipe as a special surprise at the end of the book. It is one of the baked goodies Cora Lee makes in the book. I am anxious to try it and will be doing so very soon. I love that the author included this as a special little surprise along with her write up about the story, and her inspiration for it. I thought that these were both amazing little personal touches that gave a bit of insight into the author.
It is always a treat when Shanna Hatfield releases a new historical romance and even better when it is part of a new, multi-generational series! Holiday Hope, Book One in this new Holiday Express series takes place in 1884 and is a delightful mail-order bride story that will brighten your mood at Christmas or any time of the year! I loved the Coleman family and their warm and friendly interactions with each other and Cora Lee. Jace was such a swoon-worthy hero who just needed a little encouragement from his family to pursue a certain kind and lovely young woman. Curl up with a cup of cocoa and enjoy this refreshing and beautiful Christmas tale. Can’t wait to read the others in the series!
Holiday Hope is the first book in a new series. It's a heart warming story of Jace Coleman and Cora Lee Schuster. MS.. Hatfield takes us on a journey filled with danger, train robberies, kidnapping and love. It's a great read I enjoyed it from start to finish.
Cora Lee Schuster is a young woman who has been left all alone after her parents died and with few prospects for work or her future where she is currently living, she decides to apply for the advertised position of a mail order bride. Jace Coleman is a young man who lives on his fathers ranch with his father and aunt, by day he is an engineer on the Holiday Express line where he works on the newest train, Hope and during his free time he helps out on the ranch and around the house as needed, he has always had a love of trains from childhood and has his dream job with the best hours he can get.
Cora Lee’s decision is quickly made and after corresponding with her betrothed, she packs up her things and takes the train to her future home of Holiday, Oregon, as she is travelling she ends up sitting in the same bunk as another young woman heading to the same place for the same reason and so the journey passes quickly as the two young women become fast friends. The journey isn’t completely without hitches, however, when Cora Lee arrives in Holiday, she expects to be meeting her future husband, but instead it is her future father in law complete with excuses that she will meet him as soon as he is back home.
Cora Lee says goodbye to her friend after having dinner at the local hotel and restaurant and goes with her future father in law to see where she will be living, when there, she meets his sister and decides to retire to her room until she has had chance to freshen up and rest before dinner. Later on, she hears voices and goes to investigate and hopefully introduce herself to her future husband, however, it is not to be and instead she is introduced to his brother Jace, she is as surprised to see him as he is to see her, but they are polite and courteous towards each other as the family have dinner and get to know each other. Later that evening after the ladies have retired, Jace asks his father why there is a mail order bride and what he thinks that his brother will get out of it, but his father has hopes that it will settle him down, even if Jace isn’t as hopeful.
As the weeks pass and Cora Lee becomes a fixture of the household, it is clear that her intended isn’t coming back to the house while she is there, but yet she doesn’t want to leave, meanwhile, Jace is fighting his attraction to Cora Lee and is finding it harder to stay away from her. Will Jace and Cora Lee allow themselves to listen to their hearts, or will they fight against what is right to maintain what is proper? This is a heart warming and sweet romance which gently draws you into the ranch and the lives of those who dwell within it, as you discover the meaning of a Christmas romance in the west.

Jace Coleman has loved trains since he rode on one as a boy. Now, he is an engineer driving a new engine named Hope. Cora Lee Schuster, now an orphan, arrives as a mail-order bride in the town of Holiday but the groom’s father picks her up–not the groom, Jace’s brother, Jude who takes off rather than meet Cora Lee. She is welcomed and the longer she stays at the ranch, the more she never wants to leave. Yet Jace has no intent of marrying anyone no matter how attracted he is to the intended bride.
I’d give this book six stars if I could. Holiday Hope is not your typical mail-order-bride story. The story has several twists that keep you reading — even if you *should* be doing something else. The characters are introduced so well that you never have a problem keeping straight who is who. The pacing of the book is spot on from beginning to end.
I loved the way history appeared in the story as well as pieces of facts about trains, et al. Be sure to read the Author’s Note at the end of the story. Included is a recipe for ‘Apple Kuchen’ (Cora Lee bakes tasty sweets.) And an excerpt from book #2 of the Holiday Express series, “Holiday Heart” which takes place in 1914.
This book is entertaining, even informative. I enjoyed it and highly recommend Holiday Hope by Shanna Hatfield.
I received a complimentary e-ARC* copy of Holiday Hope via NetGalley. The book was Independently Published. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Holiday Hope is differ because it’s a period romance, but I loved it. First time I’ve really enjoyed a period piece that wasn’t a movie that starred Kiera Knightley. Anyway back to why I loved Holiday Hope and why you should too! Cora Lee is a sweet, independent, intelligent woman who has no living family left in the states. She decides her best course of action is to answer a mail order bride article that was in the paper. Now I knew during those times arranged marriages were a thing, but I never expected the mail order bride aspect. Unfortunately the whole reason for her to uproot her life to Holiday, Oregon was under false pretenses which leaves a decision for her to make. Stay with the lovely Coleman family and continue to fall in love with Jace, the twin brother of the man who rejected her, or move on. Jace swore off women and marriage because he feels all women are like his mother, floozy and vindictive. He never wanted to risk happiness because of what happened to his father. Instead he fell in love with the railroad and trains. Then when he meets Cora who was brought here by his father to wed his twin Jude, aside from his slight attraction, he swears to himself he will nor let Jude destroy her. Throughout the story Jace and Cora Lee’s character development apart and together is what makes this book work. The things they decide and overcome make this a sweet story in an idyllic setting of the gold rush during the Holidays in Oregon. I was skeptical going in, but not so much that I wasn’t intrigued, and I glad I jumped in, because the author won over and made me toss all skeptics to the wayside.
I thoroughly enjoyed this heartwarming historical Christmas romance and was hooked from start to finish. This was a wonderfully written western romance which was full of the Christmas spirit, full of hope, humour, warmth and of course love. Following the death of her parents Cora Lee Schuster signs up to become a mail-order bride and has to travel across the country to the newly established town of Holiday, in Oregon. However, when she arrives she is met by her future father-in-law rather than her betrothed, and it soon becomes clear that he has no intention of marrying her. Cora is taken to the family ranch where she meets Jace Coleman, her betrothed’s brother. Jace loves trains and works as an engineer driving the Holiday Express line’s new engine, named Hope. When Cora arrives at his family’s ranch to marry his brother, Jace is suspicious and wonders if his father is matchmaking. As Cora and Jace spend time together, Jace finds it increasingly difficult not to fall for his brothers fiancé. Whilst Cora wishes she was Jace’s mail-order bride and not his brothers. This was an enjoyable and engaging read and I found myself happily turning the pages, completely immersed in the town of Holiday and it’s residents. The author really made both the era and the setting come alive through her descriptive narrative and all the small historical details. I fell in love with the likeable and relatable characters and was just hoping that Cora and Jace would get their HEA. This is the first in a series of holiday romances and I look forward to reading the rest of the series this festive season.
Holiday Hope is the first book in the Holiday Express series by Shanna Hatfield. I really enjoyed this delightful historical holiday romance. It is such a wonderfully woven story with endearing characters who I was immediately invested in, as well as the outcome of their story. But the story isn’t just a light and fluffy romance- it has plenty of depth, tension, angst, drama, danger, and emotion. This was nothing like I expected- but in the best possible way! Cora Lee finds herself alone in the world, struggling after the death of her beloved parents. She dreams of a better life- so takes a chance and answers an ad for a mail-order-bride. This sets her off on a cross-country journey to meet her perspective husband- only when she arrives at the station he is nowhere to be seen, sending his father to meet her instead. Cora Lee is warmly welcomed by the rest of her betrothed’s family and immediately feels like she has found ‘home’. But when her groom seems to want to avoid anything to do with her, Cora can’t help but wonder what is really going on. Throw in some train robbers, dramatic developments, danger, family, friendship, intrigue, mystery, and emotion- and this story becomes quite unputdownable! After reading this first captivating instalment in the series, I can’t wait to see what the rest of the books will bring! I will leave you here as I have a date with Book #2! Happy Reading!
This is the first book in the Holiday Express series. I really enjoyed this story and it was a surprise. Looking at the cover you would expect an historical romance which it is but this is so much more. As well as romance we have danger and turmoil as emotions run wild. I loved Cory's character, she is a strong determined woman who won't have the wool pulled over her eyes. I also love Jace. He is a good hearted man who you know would make Cora really happy if only they could give into their feelings.
Cora leaves her home and take the holiday express to meet the man she is supposed to marry. Having no idea who he is and what he's like Cora is filled with apprehension and scared she has made the right decision. On arriving she is met by her future father in law and when it seems that her future husband to be isn't around or interested Cora starts to doubt whether her future husband wanted this marriage or not.
Meanwhile Jace is the brother who drives the Holiday Express. When he meets his future sister in law he knows things aren't as they seem and wonders if his dad is trying to play matchmaker again. Now they are all living together and Jace is finding it harder everyday to keep his feelings away from being romance towards Cora.
With a mystery, trains, train robberies and secrets that will come unravelled will Cora stay and marry Jude or will she finally give in to her true love?
This is a most wonderful story about two mail order brides who met on the train from back east and found out they were going to the same town Holiday, Oregon. The liked the thought that at least they would know a friend in town. They made it to Baker City in Eastern Oregon where they were switching trains to the Holiday Express. This train will take them right into Holiday. They suddenly were robbed when train was boarded by cowboys. Cora Lee was getting up and the door opened right as she went to open it and she almost fell but the very tall man grabbed her so she wouldn’t fall but she accidently pulled on his bandana hiding most of his face. He let go of her and told her to go sit down. Finally they left and the train never even stopped. They were so glad when they got to Holiday. Very intriguing story with mystery and love, and finding a love in a man whose brother was her fiancé but he didn’t want her. Her friend found her true love waiting for her at the train station. Love, home, family and friends at the holidays is the most perfect storyline you will love to read. I received this story from the author to read and search for possible mistakes. I am doing this review simply because I loved this story. There are three more in this series and I can’t wait to read them.
Hooked on this series from page one of this book! We meet Cora Lee as she's beginning her travels. After losing both of her parents and making the choice to become a mail-order bride, she is on her way to Holiday by train. She becomes close with Anne - who is traveling for the same reason - and the two go through quite the ordeal when the robbers come onto their train car. Once the women finally arrive at their destination, she is greeted by the father of her husband-to-be (Grant) and not the man himself. First red flag! The ranch is lovely and the family is even better. I love Mae and the fact that she is a "tell it like it is" type of person. Jace is sweet and silly, but hardworking and determined. Grant has his heart in the right place considering all that he has been through, but he made some poor decisions that could have potentially ruined Cora Lee's life going forward. Anne and her new husband are an adorable couple and it brought me joy that she found happiness in Holiday. Jace and Jude could not be more different in personality, but in looks - it may be hard to tell who is who. After seeing both men's true colors, it became apparent what the end result SHOULD be. But did it work out the way we all hoped? Read and find out! It's the perfect story for a one-night read during the holiday season. I cannot wait to dive into the rest of the series.
I would hop on the Holiday Express called Hope every day! Their cute little settlement of Holiday sounds like a little slice of heaven, like where my family and I reside. If only we had the plethora of pine trees to pick from for our Christmas tree, like Cora Lee, Jace, and Grant did, that would really make our holidays that much more memorable. The author recreates the magic of the holidays in this beautifully written novel, and I for one, was able to really picture the essence of their spirit, their community, and the love that Elk Creek Ranch holds. What’s a romance with a little bump here and there, which is where Jude comes into play, read and see!
The slow burning romance was well done, and although you had an idea of how this adventure would hit a troubling part, it still has its readers holding their breath, really hoping for the happily ever after that the Coleman's had earned. I absolutely adore Cora Lee, and her openness to new beginnings, as well as all those that reside on the ranch. I was sad when this story came to an end, as it was a beautifully written escape from reality. I feel as though my steps are a little lighter, and my outlook a little brighter as we get closer to another difficult COVID-19 Christmas. Thank you, I cannot wait to read the rest of this series, highly recommend!
This was a great 5 star read. I was pulled in right from the start. Cora Lee is traveling to Holiday to meet her husband to be and start a new life. She is a little nervous but when she meets another woman traveling to Holiday for the same reason they become fast friends.
When she arrives he is nowhere to be found, his father is the one that picks her up. She meets his aunt (who I really liked) and his brother Jace. When she is around him she gets butterflies, there is something about him that she really likes but she knows that she is betrothed to his brother. Jace befriends Cora, he has no intention to marry but the closer he gets to Cora the more feelings start to develop.
Will Cora stay true to her original plans or will she follow her heart?
Overall I really enjoyed this read. All of the characters added a great element to the story. I instantly liked Jace and after getting to know a little more about Jude I didn’t care so much for him. The author does a great job with her writing, you feel like you are right in the story with the characters. This love story was great, the characters grew throughout and were made for each other. If you're looking for a great historical romance this is one you will really enjoy. I look forward to reading more from this author. 1-click and get started today.
This is the first book in the Holiday Express series as well as my first experience with this author. It was the perfect holiday story and a great start to the series. The characters were charming and endearing and I couldn't help but fall in love with them. The story was well written and takes you on an adventure filled with train robberies and kidnappings, and also a discovery of love. After Cora's parents have passed away, she wants to try and make a better life for herself. She finds an ad for a mail order bride and decides this is the fresh start she is looking for and starts corresponding with the gentleman, Jude. She enjoys their letters and travels to Holiday to meet her future husband. Only when she gets there, Jude is nowhere to be found and his family is not giving her much information. However, they welcome her with open arms into the family and make her feel as if she really belongs. When she meets Jude's brother Jace, they have seem to have a connection and start to develop feelings for each other. But since she came to Holiday to marry Jude, seems like she is in a bit of a pickle now! I really enjoyed reading this delightful and clean romance. This sweet story will warm your heart and leave you with a smile on your face. A truly charming read!
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This is a lovely, sweet, heartwarming historical, holiday romance by an author that was new to me before reading this book. I don’t read a lot of historical romance but I really enjoyed this one and could be persuaded to read more. This is the first book in a new series and judging by how much I enjoyed reading this book, I’m pretty sure that I will read the future books in the series. This is the story of Cora Lee Schuster who has come west to be a mail order bride, only to find out that her future husband has absolutely no interest in marrying her. Living with his family she forms close bonds with his father, aunt and brother when he disappears. As they spend more time together Jace Coleman, brother of her betrothed, has to fight with his growing feelings for Cora Lee. I really loved reading the interactions between Cora Lee and Jace, watching them tip-toe around each other, unwilling to accept that there could be something growing between them. The author does a great job of character building, particularly in how different Jace is from his brother Jude. Jace is a fantastic character, as is Cora Lee, and I could have read about them for hours and hours. I was really drawn into their story and found it very entertaining. I would definitely recommend this book.
You’re on a train headed from Cincinnati to Oregon as a mail order bride. Can you imagine all the crazy thoughts, hopes, and dreams you might have for the future? Will the man be handsome? Will he be a good husband? Will he treat me right and be faithful? Will we in time learn to love each other? Set in the Old West comes a tale of life and love. New beginnings can be very scary especially if you do not know what or who is waiting for you at the end of the train ride, one in which was robbed on the way to Holiday, her new home she hopes. Cora Lee full of hope for her future embarks on this ride and arrives to some very peculiar circumstances. Not being met by the man who ordered her but rather by his father. Settling into this new ranch and life, Cora Lee does find love, friendship, and a family. This was such a great story and easy to read. My favorite thing about the story is that it is told from many perspectives and the reader is privy to inner thoughts and secrets of all the main characters. It read just like a Hallmark movie, and I LOVED it! Pick up this book for an easy to read entertaining and uplifting story that truly does stay true to the title of Holiday Hope. Believe in the magic of having hope and know that all things will work out in the end.
Genre: Christian, Mail Order Bride, Western Romance, Christmas, Historical Romance
I very much enjoyed this Western Historical Romance Novel, Holiday Hope. It is a first of the series and I look forward to reading the next book. Shanna Hatfield is a new author to me; I very much enjoyed her writing. She wrote wonderful character development in this novel and I look forward to reading more from her.
Cora Lee has not family left after the death of her parents and has decided her best course of action is to become a mail order bride and has to travel to a new today in Holiday, Oregon. Cora travels to Holiday, once she arrives, she learns Jude Coleman the man she has been corresponding with and was supposed to marry, is nowhere to be found. His family has welcomed her with open arms and treats her like their own daughter. The more time Cora spends with the family on the ranch, the more she feels at home.
Cora spends a lot of time Jude's twin brother Jace and finds herself falling for him. She still feels an obligation to Jude though. Jace knows his brother will not treat Cora right. He finds himself very drawn to Cora, but not ready to get married. What will Cora do?
The story is very sweet and heartwarming. A great read!
This book was such a delight to read, and after a weekend of craziness this was exactly what I needed to read. I was hooked right from the start The story brought on much intrigue and love for the characters. I could not get enough, it truly was a joy! Wonderful read!
I loved this book how it takes place, meeting the person you are the spend your life with then all the action and hiccups along the way. I loved how Cora handled everything. She was strong and independent and you could tell she would not let anything stop her from reaching her goal and that was being and meeting her husband, The book flowed so easily and nicely. It was a pure joy! The author really knew how to keep my attention, as well as that, it was very realistic, it was as if a series of true events was happening before my eyes! Loved this book! I will defiantly be reading more by this wonderful author!
Wonderful read, and perfect time for the holidays! I could not get enough of the joyous feelings I got as I read this wonderful book! I highly recommend this book and this series as well as this gifted author! Truly a perfect read with a nice cup of hot coca! Loved it from end to finish! Amazing enjoyment!
It starts like a fairy tale - catching a train called Holiday Hope to meet your new husband. Pity that everything seems to derail from there - an armed holdup, missing groom, your future father-in-law lying to you … but there are a few ups to go with the downs for Cora Lee. She loves living on the ranch, baking and spending time with Mae (her Aunty-to-be), and getting to know Jace, her brother-in-law to be. In fact she loves spending time with Jace, which becomes a bit of a problem, or does it? I loved this book - so romantic in setting off for a new life but with the heartache and frustration of dreams not quite turning out how you want. The characters were so good and I felt their emotions alongside them - wanting to give Grant a shake and ask him what he was thinking; give Jace a hurry along and give Cora Lee a big hug. This book was a great length to read in an evening which is just what I need at this busy time of year. I can’t wait for the rest of the series. Please read it, you won’t be disappointed.
With it being the holiday season, what better read than a Christmas read about a town in Oregon named Holiday?
You meet Cora Lee riding a train west to meet the man who ordered her as a bride. Once she gets to Holiday, it becomes very apparent to her that something isn't right. She soon discovers that her intended didn't really send for her, but his dad did! Thinking he was doing his son a favor, he picked her out and wrote to her for his son! However, he has TWO sons, not just the one he had planned on Cora Lee marrying. While they await the arrival of the errant son, Cora Lee falls in love with his twin and vice versa! Will she declare her love before the intended brother comes to claim her? Will he? Or will she break her own heart and leave?
This was a sweet, western story. I felt like I got little snippets of interesting history while reading, too! The author did a wonderful job of showing how family can be disappointing but also can be chosen. I enjoyed reading about Cora Lee and how she found her place and learned to stand up for herself. Perfect afternoon read!
Feeling she has no other options, Cora Lee signs up as a mail order bride. After conversing back and forth with a man, she sets off on a train journey to the newly settled west. Along the way she meets another bride -to- be and forms a lifetime friendship. Her experience of the west begins with a rude awakening - train robbers threaten the passengers and delay their journey. She discovers on arrival that the man she is there to meet not only didn't send for her, but has no desire for a wife or to change his debaucherous ways. Fortunately other members of the Holiday community are welcoming and generous.
This is a sweet romance filled with bumps in the road and adventure. I loved the characters, the setting and even the author notes. Facts are sprinkled within the story that make it feel real and draw the reader further into the experience.
I did receive an advanced copy of this book but the review is my own opinion.
Holiday Hope (Holiday Express Book 1) by Shanna Hatfield. I loved this book. It was a great holiday read. I'm looking forward to the next installment in the Holiday Express Book series. This is the story of Cora Lee Schuster who after her parents die answers an ad for a mail order bride. She boards the train to Holiday Oregon and on board she meets another lady heading to the same town as her for the same reason. She is so happy she will have at least one friend when she arrives to this new town. When the train arrives she is met by her future father in law not her groom and she realizes that his father had set it up not her finance. When Jude doesn't want anything to do with her his brother Jace decides to befriend her. As they spend more and more time together Jace starts to have feelings for Cora and can't decide what to do. Will Cora and Jace give romance a shot or will Cora be out in the cold again with no one to call family? Read Holiday Hope to find out!
Holiday Hope is book one in the Holiday Express series and is a story that can be enjoyed year-round. Cora Lee is out of her element at a ranch after having lived in a city apartment her whole life, and the resulting foibles are fun to watch. Jace is intent on remaining single because of his parent’s poor marriage but is drawn to Cora Lee’s sweet nature. I loved the way the Jace’s dad and aunt embrace Cora Lee into the family, and she quickly becomes part of their lives. They are wonderful secondary characters inserting themselves and their wisdom into the situation. It was interesting to learn about Jace’s profession in the railroad industry with information sprinkled throughout the story. The author does a great job of including snippets of description when one of the characters is performing a task to immerse me in the era but also show what life was like. I look forward to the rest of the series.
Another charming story from Shanna. Looking to make his son settle down and hopefully enjoy the love of a good woman, rancher Grant Coleman sends for a mail order bride in his son's name. Unfortunately, his son has no interest in changing his ways or being married so he packs up and leaves. Cora is at a loss as to what to do, but Grant brings her to his ranch where she meets her intended's twin brother and settles into ranch life but still not sure of her future. This book is filled with sweet romance, but also danger, train robberies, and kidnapping. In the end love triumphs. I always enjoy the fact that Shanna does such thorough research about the times and customs she writes about. I have learned a lot of history and interesting tidbits by reading her books. She is one of my favorite authors and I can't wait for the next book in the series.
I really enjoyed this story. Cora Lee and another woman are going to Holiday to marry men they have never met. On the way, there is a train robbery. Cora Lee gets a pretty good look at one of the robbers. Her intended's father picks her up at the station, the groom is MIA. When a man walks into the house, she is sure it is the robber she saw. Turns out it is the twin brother of her groom and he is the one who drove the train. What is going on? Cora Lee has an idea that the groom will not be appearing any time soon. The more time the brother, Jace, spends with Cora Lee, he falls more under her spell. He has no intention of getting married. He is married to the railroad and plans to stay that way. Can Cora Lee convince him they belong together? Will her intended show up and change things?
