Best Lesbian Erotica of the Year

Rate this book
This is the 6th volume of the Best Lesbian Erotica of the Year series, and it is also Sexsmith's third year in a row as the editor. This particular volume will feature representations of queer women, non-binary folks, trans women, and a variety of #Ownvoices viewpoints that are not as frequently seen in erotica. Tales will include characters representing the more marginalized among us when it comes to ability, race, ethnicity, class, neurodiversity, sexuality, age, and religion.

The sex acts portrayed in each story will include, but are not limited to, themes such as “Vanilla,” BDSM, fetish, ace, and all kinds of sensual and sexual expression, as well as a variety of sexual mommy, mistress, sir, puppy, girl, servant, etc.

This is surprising to me. I normally enjoy these collections thoroughly. It isn't easy to find good lesbian erotica. Most times it is more menage with an FFm leaning. This one is technically all ff in every permutation. If you were expecting only biological ff sex, this is not the book for you. If you are interested in all the different ways a person identifies as ff and has sex as a female, then this is the book for you.

I'm the editor, so I'm biased — but I love these stories!

How good is this book???

Short answer - It’s AWESOME!! I have three copies!!! So Buy It! Now!!

Long answer:

Shortly after this volume was released, the editor, Sinclair Sexsmith, tweeted out an offer for an ebook copy in return for a review. I raised my hand. That was back in January. It’s now August. Ouch.

As soon as they sent it to me I hunkered down to read. After the second story I stopped. And I went to Amazon to buy the ebook. Because I wanted to officially support the editor and all of the fine authors whose works are in this volume. I then made myself a promise. I wouldn’t binge read this book! Cause that’s what I usually do when I get a book that grabs my total attention. And next thing I know it’s 4:30 in the morning and I’m exhausted and suffering “bookdrop” and hungering for more. I didn’t want that this time. I wanted the slow burn. I wanted to savor every story and sink myself into them. I wanted to feel that hot throb in my belly from reading each story. I wanted to draw this out as long as I could. And I did. And it wasn’t easy. But it was so, so worth it!

Since it’s been so long since it’s release, I’m not going to do a detailed story by story review. That’s been done, and done amazingly well, by others here on Goodreads and on Amazon and various blogs across the internet. And they’re only a quick google search away.

Instead I’ll say this. If you like hot, steamy, excellently written erotica? This is for you. If you identify as a woman (cis or trans) who desires other women, these stories are for you. If you are bi, pan, or any sexuality that encompasses loving, adoring, desiring the female form from a female perspective, these stories are for you. If you are non-binary or gender fluid/gender queer and still adore the female form? These stories are for you. Regardless of your age, or how you identify, there is a story in here that will rock your world; will have you reaching out to your partner to have them read it too; and then work with you to re-create it!

I now own three copies of this work. I ordered the paperback to add to my home library. Cause that’s the only way I know to show my appreciation. Not just for the authors who created these hot stories, but the editor who slogged through all the entries and narrowed it down to these twenty-three tales. I can’t wait for it to get here and hunker down to re-read my favorites while waiting for next year’s edition.

I omitted rating this because I'm a contributor.

This book is a diverse and inclusive anthology of 23 sexy short stories. There's so much rep: trans, non-binary, BIPOC characters and authors, butch, femme, ace, bi, pan, kink, poly, disabilities. You probably won't vibe with every story, but YKINMYKATO and all.

The overall feeling I got from this anthology is that it's a celebration of being loved and desired for who you ARE--not what society thinks you should be. And that's a beautiful and radical thing.

But not all of these stories have a happy ending. There's grief and loss here, too, sometimes without sight of healing, and a tangible presence of the pandemic throughout but particularly in the opening and closing stories. This is an anthology of its time and it doesn't shy away from that. Ultimately it's hopeful, but acknowledges the pain we have all lived through and are still living through.

My own story, "A Good Day" is unusual for me because it's 0% dark. 0%! It has a long-term relationship, a white disabled top, mild impact play, mild D/s, sex toys, slut-shaming language, and is 100% consensual.

This anthology releases 4 Jan 22!

What I absolutely adore about this volume in the Best Lesbian Erotica series is the diversity. I love reading all of the voices and different scenarios. There are so many great voices here that I cannot comment on all of them. I wrote about the ones that I can personally relate to at this moment in my life. Next year, other stories might come to the forefront. There is something for everyone in this book. If these stories didn’t resonate, don't worry another one will. Sinclair Sexsmith has compiled a panty-wetting, heart swelling, and I need to get me a person volume of erotica that you will keep by your bedside.

I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.

To see the full review check it out here.

I feel like today is a good adjective day, so the adjectives of this book are: hot, kinky, lovely, queer, and must read.

(Amazing trans rep and even some ace stories. I am in love)

Short review:

This book definitely has a variety of stories and perspectives. It explores a broad range of views, activities, and identities. Whether you are experienced or just a curious explorer, you are bound to find something that speaks to you, something that moves you. The book features 23 stories that represent various images, voices, and experiences. A strength of the anthology is in how validating the stories are.

This is a book I highly recommend for libraries, especially public libraries that collect romance and erotica. If they also collect LGBTQ+ titles, this is one to add as well. It is part of an anthology series, but it does stand alone well. If you have not read previous ones, this is a good entry into the series.

I'm in this, but my rating is based on the work of other authors in the anthology since I can't fairly rate myself.
I'm so honoured to be included in this anthology, because my fellow authors have written some truly beautiful words, in addition to the stories being steamy. There's so much creativity here (like the story of the two cyborgs!) and tenderness that I really enjoyed reading.

Don’t let the very lesbian cover and very lesbian title put you off, it’s actually much more sexy and diverse on the inside. Non-binary folx, some stories with ace-characters, transgender and more.
