Hiro Mashima (Jap: 真島ヒロ) is a Japanese manga artist.
He gained success with his first serial Rave, published in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 1999 to 2005. His best-selling work, Fairy Tail, published in the same magazine from 2006 to 2017, became one of the best-selling manga series with over 72 million copies in print. Mashima began the currently ongoing Edens Zero in 2018.
Fairy Tail won the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen manga in 2009, and Mashima was given the Harvey Awards International Spotlight award in 2017 and the Fauve Special Award at the 2018 Angoulême International Comics Festival.
Started reading this series a few months ago and wanted to share my thoughts on the first fourteen volumes now. The series is very much a "sci-fi Fairy Tail" with a lot of similar character designs and even some similar plot beats in story structure, like the female lead getting kidnapped in an arc.
I can't say if it's better or worse, but it does feel about as fun. The most surprising thing is probably Valkyrie's fate as I expected the author to show her actually surviving, like how he likes to do with FT's cast. But maybe it's something that'll happen later - we'll see.
I do also enjoy the lead and his gravity powers more than Natsu's fire, and it is a relatively enjoyable read. But it doesn't wow me on the same level as HxH/OP's best arcs and doesn't make me rush back to read more. For now, I'll pause this here tentatively and maybe come back when I'm in a stronger mood to do so. But I'd say the series is okay and a sort of "turn your brain off and enjoy the ride" kind of series so far, which isn't bad since that's the main intention.

So we get the first fights for the Aoi Cosmos saga as we get to see a look at Poseidon Nero's forces and even other hints to other people that will become main threats like Nero's son. We also learn more about the Eden Zero's past as we learn about an enemy of the 4 Shining Stars. And we get see Elsie in action for the first time. Nero's forces are not really to thrilling as they just seem kind of goofy but the build up for Nero is actually pretty good and just seeing more world building is also really cool.
4/5 This volume is almost completely battle volume as Shiki, Rebecca, and Homura take on Nero’s 6th beast squad. Meanwhile up in space the shining four, Weisz, and the rests contend with a satellite ran by Ziggy that’s make the bots on planet Foresta “Kill All Humans”. We also get a look at another gravity user Nero’s son Shura who is definitely evil. Then we are readying for an encounter between Justice and Elsie.

Shiki, Justice, and Elsie on the cover of volume 14.
I'm really loving the current developments in the series! The Introduction of certain characters have been great and I can wait to see what happens next after that last panel!
This volume was a bit less clear and interesting than its predecessors, but I'm reminded of the saying, "A bad day of golf is better than a good day at work."
Another fave cover! Seeing Elsie transform and use Grand Chariot! Shudda up! I will always ship these two no matter what universe they belong to here or Fairy Tail!
