I mean... it was free but it also wasn't a full story.
If you are expecting a full novella, you will be disappointed. Frankly, that's what I was expecting, so I left this wanting something more. I enjoyed what I read, but it was just a few intro chapters that ...-ed into the lead up to the first in the series.
Hoping The Best Men is as good as I'm expecting it to be based on Super Hot Wingman.

Oh god no. This was so freaking cringe-worthy. I do not even know where to begin, since everything was just regrettably terrible.
I mean, not only is it uncomfortable how badly and stiffly written this is, the characters are also absolutely dreadful.
First and foremost, the main character, Mark, was honestly so annoying; he literally just hated on everything and everyone for no reason whatsoever. Like, what even is his deal?? He also needs to mind his own business, because he is far too involved in his sister's life-choices. Just be happy for your sister, dude, and calm down. This judgemental alpha macho man needs to take several seats. Please, and thank you.
The 'love interest' in the form of Asher seems fine enough, but only if you ignore the fact that he did not even seem like a real person. Even though we read from his perspective a few times, it did not humanize him, as he sounded more like a robot than anything else.
I guess the only redeeming factor was that I really am a sucker for pining, and at least Mark seemed quite enamoured with Asher, so that was somewhat fun. Sort of? I guess not really, though.. Because honestly, not even that was done right, as it was constantly mixed with Mark being annoying as hell. I don't know, I'm really just grasping at straws here to find something I kind of liked. I’m coming up empty.
Anyway, it is all just so incredibly superficial and weird and stupid and eye-roll-worthy. Just bleh. Not for me, nope. Nope. NOPE.

The timing of this FREE prequel was epic for me! I had just started to read an early copy of The Best Men late the day before so I was only two chapter into the book when the authors announced the prequel, so I jumped on YouTube and took a listen the next morning! It was cuteness overload and it’s not like most prequels out there that you can read in the full-length book when it releases! This is a get to know the leads little story that you don’t necessarily need to experience to love The Best Men, but it’s cute and lovely and FREE so why not? :)

This was such a wonderful prequel that gave us a look into how Mark & Asher met as well as a bit of a back story on who they are.

This is a cute sneak intro to the moment that kicks off The Best Men.
It's not massively detailed but it works to give an intro to the rest of the story which unfolds between Asher and Mark.
It's funny and also sets off the differences in the backgrounds and life experiences of the two men and also works to show how close they are to their respective best friend and sister.
I'm absolutely loving The Best Men (I have the ARC) and can only smile at all this prequel reveals.

A fun, promising start but we’ll see. Asher, who we get very little from in this novella, I’m hoping will grow on me in the full length novel. If he remains toeing the line of bro-y a—hole then well…😬 (did LB write for him because that might answer some questions for me lol)

Nu știam nimic de cartea asta înainte să mă apuc de ea.🤣 Am primit mail că este gratis pe amazon, am văzut că e M-M romance, ca aparent are 50 de pagini (interesant mi se pare că paperbackul are dublu de pagini but oh well🤣) și abia după ce am adăugat-o pe GR am văzut că de fapt e un fel de nuvelă pentru cartea ce urmează să apară luna aceasta, cu aceeași protagoniști.
Nu s-a întâmplat mai nimic, sincer nu știu de ce au ținut morțiș autoarele să scoată povestea asta separat și de ce nu au inclus partea asta direct în cartea propriu zisă, but who am I to judge.
