Dominus, an incubus who runs a brothel called The Twig and Berries, has become bored with his life and his customers.

Sebastian, a changeling fairy swapped at birth for a human infant, has just learned his true heritage. Reeling with the knowledge, and unsafe among humans, he lets a vampire guide him north through Hungary to a place where he can meet others of his kind.

Along the way, Sebastian must stay with Dominus for safe keeping for a few weeks, which is fine with Dominus. Sebastian is the first person who's truly piqued his interest in a long time. Until he learns Sebastian is a faerie, and Dominus has reason to despise faeries.

Forced together, they'll have to make the best of it. Meanwhile, trespassers infiltrate the territory and must be dealt with. Why are they here? What to they want?

Regardless of Dominus's feeling toward Sebastian, it's his responsibility to protect the faerie while under his roof. But it's impossible to protect a charge he can’t trust.

Just shy of 2.5 stars. That was one of the most straightforward books I've ever read. It's about a faerie and an incubus who are like historical enemies for some dumb reason. They end up falling in love, obvi, and having to overcome the weird prejudice. I found this to be a pretty boring novel. There was no hook, I barely cared what happened to any of the characters. The MCs spend far too little time together at the beginning to justify their devotion to each other at the end. There was not one single surprise in this book and the tension was so manufactured. It's not terrible but definitely left me feeling unsatisfied.

“I worried I was just another client to you. That it would be easy to forget me when you have your choice of so many.”
His words hit like a knife to my chest. “No, no, you were never just another anything to me. You were special from the moment we met. I haven’t taken clients in years, but when you walked through my door, it was like your soul spoke to mine. And I needed you right away.”

What a cute yet sexy book. I mean, with an incubus involved, I didn’t expect any less. It has the same vibes as the previous book but at the same time it’s quite different. While in Mongrel the MCs had to go on a quest to solve a mystery, here the story is focused entirely on the couple. The enemies to lovers part is pretty short, so if it’s not a trope you particularly like I’d give it a chance anyways. I do love it but I understand that this series it’s more chill than the angsty kind I’m used to reading; which it’s totally fine, sometimes you just need a little bit less drama while you’re still reading a book with the tropes you like.

I really enjoyed Dominus in the previous book. He didn't appear much but it was enough to tell he was going to be a great MC. Sebastian was just his perfect match. Though at some point they were getting extremely stubborn, luckily Ivaz was there to shake some sense into them (I hope we get to see more of him, he needs his own story). I wish we get more fairy/incubus pairings in the future because it was explosive. And let me tell you, Dominus really knew how to use his tail.

A lovely addition to this series. Fast-paced, sweet and with a little bit of steam. I can’t wait for Leonas’ story!

It took me a minute to get into this story; I picked it up and set it back down a handful of times, knowing it wasn't the right time to start it. (Hello, mood reader party of 1) And it was totally worth the wait, when I started the story I was instantly drawn in and transported back to 1600s Hungary.

I read the book in two days, I didn't want to put it down. There was something so charismatic about Sebastian that he captivated me as much as he did Dominus. I couldn't get enough of the big soft heart that Dominus tries so desperately to protect. The story starts off with a grumpy-sunshine vibe but quickly transforms into so much more. There is hidden danger, traumatic pasts, unknown futures and a sizzling budding relationship that had me eager to turn the page.

Sebastian and Dominus both grew so much as individual characters. In there relationship, well I liked the pacing of it. The flow between Sebastian's self-discovery and his relationship with Dominus was the perfect balance. I adored the vulnerability both men showed and I loved how refreshing the narrative of changeling and incubus was. I don't think I have come across that combination in my years of paranormal romance reading. Needless to say I am going to dive into Stray next.

“Thank you for taking a chance on me. For being kind when you didn’t have to be. For making me feel not so alone. ”

I'm not sure how she did it, but this was even better than the first book. We have Dominus, an incubus, who has fallen into somewhat of a depression. He is tired of feeding off of the sexual energy permeate the halls of the brothel he runs. Sebastian is a changeling fairy who knew absolutely nothing about the paranormal as he was raised by humans who he thought were his parents. He finds out that there is something different about him when a fire breaks out in his home & he try's to save his parents. When the townspeople see what he does with the fire, they turn on him & attempt to kill him. It is horrible that he is treated like he was. He finds out that he can find safety at Bran Vigny Castle. Ivaz, is going to take Sebastian there, but something comes up so he takes him to The Twig & Berries (cracked me up to no end) to stay with Dominus, until they can continue their journey. Now if you remember in the Opal series, the fae were responsible for the incubus not being able to leave their homeland. So when Sebastian meets Dominus their attraction is immediate until Dominus finds out what Sebastian is. We then have a slow story about them becoming friends and then Sebastian eventually leaving to finish his journey and our two stubborn MC's not wanting the other to know how much they care for each other & that they want to spend their lives together. Finally they admit what they feel about each other & Sebastian comes up with a solution to their problems. I love this series, as well as the Immortal Jewels series. The book can be read as a stand-a-lone, but to get maximum enjoyment out of it, I would start with the Immortal Jewels series.

4.5 “I adore you,” “I’m sorry I made you feel like I didn’t.” stars

Covering his lips with mine, I kiss him. I can hardly believe this is happening. We’re here, the two of us together in a house we own. I’m free of the curse. He’s chosen me. We’ve chosen each other. I’ve never known such contentment.

I wanted to read this book because I always love a good enemy to lovers and I expected to enjoy it, but I was taken a back by how much I loved this book. This book just really worked for me, in every way possible.

Brief summary
It’s 1614 in Hungary, Sebastian is a changeling, which is a faery that was passed as a human at birth. Vampires are trying to take hostage all the faeries because they need their blood to help the elders. So, Sebastian goes to take shelter at Dominus’ brothel but Dominus (who’s an incubus) hates faeries and he doesn’t accept Sebastian at first, but he lets him stay for 2 weeks. They are really attracted to each other, and they give in to temptation and they fall in love.

The world building in this book was so much fun. I loved every second I spent reading about this world and the people in it. I liked how fleshed out the world is and how every species has a story and traits that makes them unique. I just loved how the world was done in this book, it was just so lovely to read.

I love the enemies to lovers books where they are not really mean to each other but they don’t like each other and don’t really want to talk to each other but they cannot ignore the pull that they fall towards each other. This book was exactly that and I just loved it. I loved how they were so attracted to each other and could not let each other go even if they didn’t want to be together because they didn’t really like each other at first.

I just adored the vibes of this book, it was so sweet and fluffy, but it also had conflict and a strong story, everything about that worked for me. I also adored both main characters, so much, they just were both so lovely. And I absolutely loved the relationship in this book, it was so damn sweet and so full of love, it really made my little heart swoon, so many times.

The characters and the story of this book was so well fleshed out and developed that I just kept crying my eyes out at the different events that were happening, I felt so connected to the characters and I just felt so bad for them every time something happened to them.

The sex scenes in this book were fantastic and I loved all of them, they just worked so well for me.
If I had one thing to say, I just wanted a couple more scenes of Sebastian and Dominus together, I loved seeing them pine for each other, but I just wanted to see them together a bit more.

I absolutely loved every second of this book and I had the best of time reading it.

i received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Changeling is a sweet, fluffy book with hot moments and colourful variety of magical beings.

Dominus an incubus, who has a successful business, friends, coworkers and still lonely. He never hopes for more, till a friend brings his mortal enemy under his roof…

Sebastian is an outcast, he is lonely and clueless about his heritage and the hidden world around him. He wants to learn and to belong, and the angry purple beautiful incubus.

“I’m stuck on him, Ivaz. The faerie. I fell for him, but he’s gone, and I’m alone. I don’t want anyone else. I’m not feeding. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Nothing like this has ever happened before.”

- Setting is in the historical Hungary
- First is forced proximity then forced distance
- Horns, tail and wings
- Sweet
- Low angst
- Awesome side characters
- Pinning
- Incubus & faerie pairing
- Finding home, finding family

Second book in the series but can read as standalone. Best book if you want some light and hot story with otherworldly beings.

4.5*

This is the first book I have read from this author and I would definitely say this book can be read as a standalone although I understand that there are other books in this series.

I loved the interactions between Dominus and Sebastian and the way Sebastian slowly worked his way into Dominus' heart. This book was out of my comfort zone as I don't usually read historical books but there was just so much detail and description in this book that it really worked for me and I didn't mind the historical element.

I loved how determined Sebastian was and how despite his past issues, he was so pure and caring. I really enjoyed this and will make sure to look out for the rest of the series to read.

Changeling is a slower burn with Sebastian and Dominus separate for part of the book.
I adore the enemies to lovers trope and enjoyed the fact that Dominus was charmed by Sebastian despite their species ancient feud.
That being said, I found it harder to warm to Dominus which is why it's a 4 rather than 5.
I'd have absolutely read a novella about Sebastian learning magic and I loved everything about him and his journey.
This series is a gem and I can't wait for the next book

I recevied an ARC and this is my honest review.

I really loved this book and can't wait for more! After reading book 1 in the series, I held out hope that we'd get to find out more about Dominus and I definitely wasn't disappointed. From the outset, Sebastian and Dominus have amazing chemistry and the scenes are smoking hot. There are also a lot of sweet, romantic moments too and it was great to see their relationship develop. I liked how, despite being vulnerable, Sebastian was never presented as being weak - he stood up for what he wanted. This book isn't jam packed with action, but it doesn't need to be. It's well written and clearly all about the two characters together. Some books that try this become boring and predictable but this kept me hooked from beginning to end!

Another thing I really enjoyed was that there were so many interesting secondary characters introduced, particularly those from The Twig. I really hope that Leonas gets his story next and I'll definitely be going back and reading other series by Lee Colgin set it the same world (I want to know Remy and Laurence's story!). Overall, this is a fantastic addition to the series and I'd definitely recommend it to others. I'm excited to see what happens next - fingers crossed it won't be too long to wait!

Changeling-a child secretly exchanged for another in infancy

Dominus, an incubus, hates faeries. The latest guest in his brothel is a faerie. A changeling who looks human. Who Dominus really wants until the part about him being a faerie is revealed. Then he hates Sebastian, silly incubus, it’s already to late. Sebastian is “stuck in a den of sex demons who feed off pleasure”. His charm quickly gets under the skin of the incubus. Leading them to start a relationship even though Sebastian will soon be leaving.

This book is set in the same universe as Mongrel. While I thought the first book was excellent this one is a little slower. More drawn out. It took a little bit for Dominus to become likable to me.

I enjoyed this author’s writing. Very imaginative and colorful. Really good characters. So many that I would love to have more backstory on the brothel workers. Nice story.

It's official. Lee Colgin's books that include an Incubus just work for me. This has slotted onto my favorites list by this author, but it still doesn't top Beyond the Ruby River for me. That book just about killed me, but I loved it. Maybe it's because their Incubus books include a bit more steam than usual since they are, essentially, a sex demon who feeds off pleasure. Either way I really enjoyed this new one and can't wait for more in the series!

Sweet story involving two MC's who shouldn't fall in love due to a centuries old rift between Incubi and Far, but who manage it anyway.

Medium heat, low to medium angst with a few miscommunications but nothing too stressful.

I love that even though Dominus and Sebastian are slow to get their communication acts into gear, they never stop acting in the other's best interests.

Sebastian and Dominus story was sweet, with a side of heartbreak and lots of love and support from friends new and old.
It was endearing to see how they connect when they finally decide to pursue their desires and get over their differences to achieve their longed happiness.
As a fairy changeling and an incubus all odds are against them, an old curse and hatred keeps them apart and they have to be brave enough to recognise that they are miserable being apart.
I loved to see old characters and how they help our couple to be together, to make them realise their feelings and tp support their relationship.
It's a story with ups and downs that will touch your soul, adrenaline, and bravery that will make you swoon.
I loved the story and I'm looking forward to see what happens next.

The story is about a young man who discovers he is really a changeling. This occurs in hindsight, he is sheltered in a brothel run by a sexy incubus, who falls for him.

I was surprised to learn this book was supposedly set in the past. These characters talk and act like contemporary men. That said, it was kind of cute anyway. I liked the Incubus character. I Found the sex, a bit silly. There is no clue that the story is about a submissive, but the main character,
Sebastian is a submissive bottom, who likes spanking.

Magic is used to overcome the character's size differences in bed, and there really is no tension or taboos, or worries that the main character being a demon and needing to feed on him or what that means exactly

I do like the characters, but about 2/3rd through the book it just became boring. The writer could not sustain the storyline, without much conflict, and while I liked the Incubus character, I found the typical pairing of 'small guy submissive bottom' 'big guy commanding top' to be very uninteresting, especially since this story had no indication that this was the direction we were going to go with it.

Also, I feel if you are going to write about a sex demon living in the brothel and not have him working in the brothel, why bother.

I'll try another by the writer, but I admit I wanted more. I wanted to know more about the incubus, how they lived off sexual energy, what Sebastian and he had in common besides sex etc.

I really want to give it more stars but alas.
It is as sweet as can be and there is little to no angst between the MC's even though they are supposed to be adversaries in the beginning. That is not what irked me though, even though there should have been more conflict. What I couldn't understand was the progression of their relationship. So they were supposed to be enemies, at least from Doms POV, so they didn't really talk all that much. The most interaction they had was when Dominus brought Sebastian his supper and even then Dominus fled as quickly as possible. Maybe all their interactions happened off page? I can only remember two incidences where they went out together on purpose. So when did Dominus build up so much trust in Sebastian that he would trust him with this core magic? And the time apart...very dramatic with the purpose to create unnecessary angst. Also, once again you have to ignore the setting, supposedly taking place in 1615 Hungary. Please tell me honestly how people would have reacted seeing one man picking up another grown man in the middle of a public and busy street carrying him in his arms in some side alley... I can tell you now that this wouldn't have had a happy ending... That is why I said in my review of the first book, that one has to imagine an alternate reality where being queer among other things wasn't a crime and social classes weren't really a thing.

You can say that I enjoyed the characters individually but had some issues with some of the execution. Don't get me wrong, I like my MC's not fighting with one another and on the low angst spectrum, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the world throwing everything it can in their path so they have to band together to overcome the obstacles. But if the MC's are supposed to be enemies then there should be a good cause for it and a path leading them to fall in love with one another quicker (if its just a silly squabble) or slower (e.g. if its a family feud) and a reasonable resolution to what divided them.

"He’s hopelessly messy, which should annoy me, as I always tie my own laces neatly, but on him, it’s fitting. Charming even."
.
My Rating : 4/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟
.
The book follows our two main characters : Sebastian, who has to find haven after he learns of his Fae heritage, and Dominus, an Incubus who offers a safe home despite the centuries long bad blood between the two paranormals. These two characters had such great chemistry from the start, and the 'enemy' part of the history adds to the Forbidden aspect of their Romance. Even though Dominus is harsh, he was still sweet and gentle and wanted Seb to be comfortable when he was with him. Aahhh the sweetness there!!
.
"But I want him all to myself for as long as he’ll have me. I want to be his friend. Well, I want far more than that, but friendship would be an excellent beginning."
.
I loved the whole family the establishment had and the support. Definitely a great found family trope in here among the Forbidden Romance. The story was gripping and I finished the whole book in a single sitting. The characters had their share of arc and I loved the ending!! Especially the surprise towards the end and my baby Dominus was so happy!!
.
"Curses. I could have lost him. I am going to lose him. But at least he will be safe. He won’t be alone anymore. And he’s mine now."
.
The only thing I didn't quite like was the pacing. Even though the whole territory issue, vampires giving home, witches transporting and fae being rare was done well, there was so much I didn't get to understand for the first half of the book, and I wish the world building was done even better. Overall, such an addictive read with some fae and incubus magic thrown in !!
.

Dominus, an Incubus who runs a brothel called The Twigs and Berries. Jaded and disinterested in life and clientele, he longs for solace and a companion.

Sebastian, a changeling fairy abandoned at birth by his biological parents for a human infant. The only parents he has known sadly perished in a fire. He is forced to flee village folk wishing him harm.

Forced to seek safety at The Twig and Berries with the help of a vampire. Dominus, instantly captivated by Sebastian, the feeling is mutual for Sebastian too. What starts as instant attraction is thwarted by one minor detail.

Incubi despise fairies!

Forced together with nowhere to go the unlikely pair find an adventure of truths, forgiveness/redemption and above all things love.

"I’d follow Sebastian through flood or fire if I had to"

"I’m drawn to him by an invisible force that always tethers us together"

Slight Enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, lots of steam! Lee Colgin knows how to bring the heat!! This was such a fun read! I felt so sorry for Sebastian he had such a rough life. The sexual chemistry between Dominus and Sebastian was off the charts. I really felt the longing between these two when they were separated, i felt sad that Dominus felt Sebastian wouldn't want to come back for him. I really rated these two as a couple and can't wait for Leona's story.

Changeling is an MM Paranormal Fantasy Romance featuring enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, a steamy love story, lamb on a stick, and surprise visitors from other novels. If you enjoyed Beneath the Opal Arc, this book's for you.

Tammy’s review:
Beneath The Opal Arc was the first book I read by this author and none of the books I’ve read since have been a disappointment. Great world building and strong distinct characters are something Ms. Colgin does well.

In this book, we meet Dominus who first appeared in Mongrel, and Sebastian. Dominus is an incubus and I absolutely love stories about this paranormal creature. Demon who feeds off sex? Um, yes please! And Sebastian is a Fae who didn’t know what he was.

They have their bumps of course, but I enjoyed their relationship developing and their eventual HEA.

Heat 7/10 (not super high, but definitely helped develop the relationship and the story)
Angst: 6/10 (some refusal to communicate, but it was in the right places)
World building: 10/10 (I can’t imagine the amount of research that went into this world)
Overall: 10/10 (would highly recommend)

There are a lot of things to like about this story, but I’ll start with my favorite: Sebastian. Sebastian is such a compelling character: he’s a changeling new to his own identity, vulnerable in human and supernatural spaces, and utterly determined to find his place. His chemistry with Dominus is emotional and personal as well as physical, and it’s compelling enough to charm Dominus despite his distrust of and resentment towards faeries in general. The way their relationship builds and develops makes for engaging reading. Fans of other books in this universe will be happy, also, to see some familiar faces. Well worth a read.

I had fun reading this latest Outcast story! I actually adore the stubborn Brothel running Dominus! This is told in Both POV which I love, but I have to say I most enjoyed Dominus's thoughts! Sebastian is flirty faerie just trying to come to terms with his powers and what he is! The banter and push and pull between these two is perfect! They also have a great chemistry, so we get a bit of steam in their story despite and in spite of attempted resistance! I received an ARC of this story. The world building continues as we are introduced to some great supportive side characters woven in! looking forward to the next book! Hoping for Leonas!

This is book 2 in the OutCast Mates series. It can be read as a stand-alone but the first book is so good I suggest you read it first as you do meet Dominus there.

This is Dominus and Sebastian’s story.
Sebastian is a Changeling. A Fae hidden among humans and just found out he has magic and isn’t human. Also that vampires and other creatures exist. He is taken to the Twig and Berries a brothel for the supernatural run by Incubi.
When Dominus finds out Sebastian is a faerie he wants him out but agrees to a two week stay.

I just loved both these characters. Sebastian is so sweet and Dominus a big sweet grump.
All the characters are interesting, the storyline intriguing and the romance also awesome. I couldn’t put this down and I want more in this world!

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. At the first chapter I wasn’t sure, because I lot of characters and places made me think it needed to read the previous book… but the second chapter won me over!

Changelings and Incubi are two of my favorite mythical creatures, and I got both in Sebastian and Dominus. Both characters had deeper feelings and thoughts they kept hidden, and I loved the side characters. The historical setting of Pest, Hungary, plus the myriad of creatures, made for a rich backdrop.

I thought it might get cheesy for after the animosity wore off, but it got hot and then sweet. Highly recommend if you like supernatural (or preternatural as they say in Changeling) stories and steamy sex scenes!

What a wonderful, surprising book! I read the first book in the series, Mongrel, and greatly enjoyed that as well. It had a historical mystery plot so I was expecting the same and got something totally different- and that's not a bad thing. That said, this book can be read as a standalone, although it's more fun as part of the series!

Sebastian is a changeling - a fairy who was swapped with a human child as a newborn. Raised and loved by his human parents, Sebastian didn't understand his powers until tragedy struck, taking away his family and his home.

On a journey to a new home where he can learn more about his powers, Sebastian meets Dominus, an incubus who runs the Twig and Berry brothel. The two are immediately drawn together but Dom's kind hate fairies and their short time together isn't enough for him to get over that fact. Or was it?

Filled with longing, sweet men, and lots of love- this book was a great read! Well written, and evenly paced, it was easy to root for Seb and Dom to find their HEA. Filled with wonderful secondary characters (some we met in Mongrel), I'm very much looking forward to the next book in the series.

Thanks to GRR for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A tail of fae-tastic proportions

With a fae who’s trying to find his place and an incubus who’s a bit stubborn but with undeniable grace (I think Gnarl would approve), you’ll fall in love with them as much as you do the unique, magical and enchanting world they live in. “With you, I feel alive in a way I’d forgotten was possible.” With some truly intense and swoony moments, the connection between Sebastian and Dominus sparked and sparkled. These two made me feel alive as I watched them find themselves and each other, and I loved all the incredible friends, family and surprises they encountered along their way. It’s a jewel of a series and I’m really hoping up next is a certain yellow-eyed feline.
