Jace is a veteran who served two tours when he was injured. He then started working at the firm when he was discharged. He is not the type of man to settle down. He thinks he would be a terrible boyfriend. Emma is a tech girl who is very introverted. Her mom and sister body shame her and make her feel horrible about herself. She's had a crush on Jace since she started talking to him on coms while he was away. She knows the kind of women he dates and that's now here near what she looks like. Will he realize what he has before it's too late?
Emma is hard on herself all the time. Not eating carbs because someone called you heavy. I get it hurts your feelings but it's your life not theirs. Care about how you see yourself not how others see you. The only issue I had with this was that it went on for so long I was angry at the end. Jace is also hard on himself thinking that he would be a horrible boyfriend. Just because you had a couple bad relationships does mean you should shut out all women. We aren't all the same. Their first actual meeting was adorable. I enjoyed how hard he worked. Miami was eye opening and I loved every minute of it. Jace has great friends at the firm. Watching her open up was beautiful. This is more of a 3.5 star read for me.

Unexpected is book five in the Heroes of Calvano Security series
It is an office romance that turns into a surprise baby story. This was one of the most real stories I have read in a long time. Emma's insecurities were real and Jace who is an alpha male sniper does everything he can to make her believe she is worthy of love.
A great story which had me hooked from the first page.

Wow I loved the dynamic between Emma and Jace. I loved that Emma was not your typical hot smart women. She felt more relatable. It did start off a little slow but ended up not being able to put it down. Can’t wait to read more from this author.

Jace was ex military sniper and didn’t know what he would do for a job once he got out of the military. Luck had it Jason (owner of the security company) offered him a job. He had a large family and they were really close.
Emma worked for the same firm as the technology lead after she was arrested for hacking one of the databases at the security company. Emma was very much so an introvert in like to stay in the background where no one notice her. She had very low self-esteem of herself, did not think that no man would want her because she was a little overweight. She only had a mom and a sister and they were always criticizing her about everything she did.
Jace was stuck on desk duty and noticed Emma across the office. He also was not computer savvy. Every time he did something that the computer didn’t cooperate, she would giggle and that made him happy. He wanted nothing more to become friends with her and to know her better. He didn’t know her past and he started asking her out for lunch or dinner so he could ask her question about her. She kept telling him no. One day they were both called into Jason’s office and they were going on an assignment together. They had to pretend that they were a couple so they can talk to a buddy of Jesus to see if he would be interested into joining the firm. Jace was finally able to get Emma to open up a little. One thing lead to another and she lost her virginity to Jace on this assignment, but the condom broke. What could go wrong? I really like this book. Emma is my soul sister. We have a lot in common. Nikki did a great job describing Emma and how one’s self perception can harm your outlook in life.
