A YA fantasy adventure full of magic, danger, and discovery.
The portals linking the world are all but forgotten. The ancient line of Dragon Kings are passed beyond myth. But a boy and his dragon on a quest to find the boy’s missing father revive both.
Encountering powerful enemies, unnatural storms, and ruthless bounty hunters is not exactly how he hoped his search would go. Every move Jaxson makes causes more problems. He will have to rely on the friends he just met, his wits, and most of all his dragon Zero, if he hopes to survive long enough to find his father.
Dangers await them on their quest, but there is no turning back. Jaxson needs to find his father, and Zero needs to find answers about his past. Both are unsure what they will discover, but at least they will find it together.
Nothing More than Zero is a fun, easy fantasy read full of adventure that's perfect for someone who enjoys epic fantasy without an epic number of pages.
I read this book aloud to my 6, 10, and 12 year old boys. They enjoyed the quick chapters and the interesting characters. The twist at the end had them jumping up and down. They loved this book and we are all waiting excitedly for the next in the series.
As an adult, I also enjoyed the book for all those reason. This is a short adventure novel, and with that in mind there are a few places of narration that, in a longer book, would have been action scenes instead. I found myself feeling like I missed out a little with those scenes, wishing for a richer picture of the world. It didn't take away from the excitement, though, and after a startling twist at the end, I can't wait to see how Jaxson and Zero do with their future challenges.
To me, this isn't a novel. It's just over 100 pages, so . . . novella? I enjoyed the story. The main character seems to have a bit o Irish luck in him. Or, fate is just on his side. It ends with a cliffhanger. I am interested to see what happens next, so I will continue reading the series.
I really liked this story. I found it to be very well written and full of surprises. The characters were intriguing and Zero is the ultimate dragon companion. Jaxson & Zero embark on a journey to find Jaxsons father. They have no idea what happened to him and are determined to find answers. On his quest, he will make some great new friends and face some fierce enemies. He will dodge bounty hunters and face incredible storms but as long as his friend Zero is with him Jaxson knows he will make it through. The story will keep you turning the pages with unexpected surprises and twists you won't see coming. I absolutely adored this one.
