Man I was really excited to read this but I have had ZERO time to read or write all month *cries in bookworm*

I really like the story it definitely gives of HTTYD vibes. I wasn’t connecting too much with the characters but I also only got as far as chap three/four so that probably played a big part. I wish I could keep reading but I think Emily wanted to take the beta copy back for editing and I genuinely have been so slammed lately I can hardly work on my own novels, or even find a spare minute to read.

So Emily, my dnf is solely on having zero time not at all bc of the book itself.


Thoughts so far:

Honestly this far it’s a solid 4 stars, and I’m only in chapter 3. It’s not 5 stars (yet!) because I wasn’t far enough in to really get into the story and I had yet to really start to connect to the characters.

Calliope: Very interesting… Her character was definitely the most compelling and interesting of all the characters I had met. She jumped right off the page as a heavily abused character who needs saving. I loved how feminine she was even while she was so deadly.

Fallon: He definitely gives off Hiccup vibes. He had the “has secret powers nobody is allowed to have” cliche, but Emily worked it well to where it wasn’t cringey or lame. If anything I wanted to know way more about his Marks! I love how he cares for everyone and is very selfless…. though I admit, I wish he had more personality ticks. Yk like little things he does or loves. Emily mentioned she had a lot but removed most of them in later drafts bc it felt like too much. I’d love to see them back if she decided to do more edits.

Lillian & Cuba: Um yes. They weren’t even a thing yet and YESSSSS. I friggin LOVE Cuba bro.

Writing: 4/5 sharp, poignant writing that felt punchy and strong. My only thing was there were a lot of short sentences that sort of broke up the flow.

Characters: 4/5 very interesting and I can’t wait to see more, but they felt like they were missing little personality ticks and things.

Romance: 3/5 not really existent in the three/four chapters I read but I can’t wait to see more.

Swearing: 2/5 a few words such as damned and I think bastard but not much else.

Faith: 3/5 not really present in the few chapters I read.

Overall a very good first few chapters, I just wasn’t far enough in to get a real feel for the story or get drawn in. I wish I could keep reading but I genuinely have no time 😭 I hate saying that bc I want to finish beta reads but I can’t.

2. Can’t even explain how impeccable the vibes and the characters of this story were. Yessss yes yes yes. It broke me several times in the best way possible and now I can’t stop thinking about it.

“For Your Murder” by Seyoon, Jink. Very enjoyable read with lots of tension and twists throughout the book. Well fleshed out characters with their own unique personalities, desires, values and motives. Wish the ending was a bit more fleshed out, seemed a bit rushed.
