Follow investigative reporter Jordan Stone as she battles PTSD and a sinister conspiracy in a race against time to uncover the truth.
After being savagely attacked and kidnapped, Jordan must fight to free herself and her family from the crime boss who wants them dead. But as she follows the clues across the ocean to Sicily, she can't shake the feeling that someone is stalking her every move. Can Jordan outwit the looming threat, or will an assassin's blade cut her life short? Find out in this heart-stopping thriller, the second book in the Stone Suspense series.
Jordan Leighton is a Canadian journalist with a distinctly dysfunctional family. When she discovers a body in her father's home & that her father is missing her world is turned upside down.
Travelling across the globe to Italy, the country of her birth, Jordan is determined to find out more about her birth and try to untangle the mystery around her father's property development.
I am always happy to read a book with a female lead especially if they have an unusual occupation and are not American. However, I think setting the novel across Canada & Italy made Jordan's character weak because she was unable to speak the language & so any clues discovered were actually handed to her by other characters.
I also really enjoyed the glimpses of the secondary character, Dorothea, who I hope will appear in future novels.
My rating was 3.5 to reflect the fact I was disappointed that the lead also fell for the attractive Italian lawyer. I don't see the need for a suspense novel to have a romance thread.
I received this book, with thanks, via Voracious Readers Only in exchange for a review.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This book took me a little while to get into. My coworker was sucked into it from the very first page. Myself, however, not so much. I had to force myself to keep reading because my coworker said it would get better. It did get better, but not until I was about halfway through the book. At that point, it DID get really good. The twists and turns kept me up until almost 1am reading until the very end because I couldn't put it down. Now I can't wait to read the next one, because I know it'll leave off from where the first book ended and I'm so excited to dive deeper into the story. The writing style was easy to read and understand and it flowed very nicely, which is something I look for in a book. It took a while to build up to the BIG part of the story, but it was nice how she gave a lot of backstory to everything so that you understood things as they happened. 4 out of 5 stars for me. I'm definitely going to be seeking out more of her books to read. I love finding new authors!
