Told in a series of shorts and poems Chasing Roses is the story of a young girl growing up. Follow Rose through her tales as she faces harsh realities of life. Capturing thoughts and emotions through her experiences Rose brilliantly shows the compelling nature of rising when all hope seems desolate. Chasing Roses encases the evocative nature of addressing what we wish to ignore and forget.
God, this book was incredible! I read Chasing Roses in one sitting and it was like nothing I’ve ever read.
I cried for the main character and all that she went through and the fact that people in the real world have to go through things like this. I smiled when she finally got the help she needed and she healed and learn to forgive and find acceptance. Rose was thrown down again and again, but she kept going even when she tried her hardest to stop. I think her story was incredibly sad, although so inspiring.
Stoddard really got me on this one. The poems were so beautiful and although the book was short, it was amazing and I think will be a big part in my heart! I highly recommend!
Please note, this book does include abuse, rape, and suicide attempts.
The story of a woman scorned by life and rising higher than she ever would have believed possible. Heartache, loss and finding love in a world of hate. ❤️❤️ my heart broke but was replaced with love for the author and her strength.
Unlike anything I've ever read before. This raw and honest story follows Rose through her trauma, life lessons, hurts and loves. Written like a series of letters, some to herself, some to others, I was absolutely touched by the truth behind the words. How brave to be so boldly honest with ones readers. I would advise that it may be triggering to some, her own actions mixed with the things that were done to her really tugged at my heart. This is a wonderful, singularly unique, way of storytelling.
Stoddard really emphasized that no matter how dark the night may be it is not forever, her writing had me on an emotional roller coaster with this one. The poems were so beautiful and although the book was short, it was amazing and definitely worth the read! Couldn’t recommend it enough.
Written in short paragraphs & poems, this is a heartbreaking story of a girl’s journey in search of hope even in the darkest hours of life.

First of all, this is definitely NOT an easy read—and I can only imagine how much harder it would’ve been to write.
I’ve always believed that there is a certain power to the honesty of words, of giving voice to the most deeply buried raw emotions one has experienced, and moreover having the courage to tell the whole story with all its complete beauty & ugliness—that’s what reading this book was like.
You feel with the main character, all the anger & frustration, followed by the hollowed-out sadness, then the suffocating darkness, but slowly in the seemingly absence of hope, that slight ray of light, and with it the letting go, the realization & finally the wide-open heart basked in all the warmth & sunlight that had always been there, but just out of reach.
It was hard to read with the triggers of abuse, suicide & rape. But I loved how the author chose to take the reader along on the journey through all the pain before the healing. Because the most important thing is knowing that, no matter how dark the nights may seem, however bad the nightmares get, we will get up again and again, chasing the sunlight & the warmth & the possibility of a better morning.
This is a compelling story about a girl overcoming difficult circumstances. A. Stoddard's attention to detail is so intense that I really felt like I was in the protagonist's head. Stoddard's writing style is unique and absorbing. I can't wait to read more from this author!
