Vann Noble did his duty. He served his country and returned a shell of a man, wounded inside and out. With a missing limb and battling PTSD, he seeks healing in an isolated cabin outside a small Texas town with a stray dog that sees beyond his master's scars. If only the white rune's magic can bring a happily ever after to a man as broken as Vann.
On the run from hired killers and struggling to make sense of her unexplained deadly mission, Nakina Bird seeks refuge in Vann's cabin. She has secrets. Secrets that can get them all killed.
A ticking clock and long odds of living or dying, create jarring risks. Will these two not only survive but find unexpected love along the way? Or, will evil forces win and destroy them both?
Jan Sikes writes compelling and creative stories from the heart. She openly admits that she never set out in life to be an author. But she had a story to tell. Not just any story, but a true story that rivals any fiction creation. The entertaining true story comes to life through fictitious characters in an intricately woven tale that encompasses four books.
And now, this author can’t find a way to put down the pen. She continues to write fiction and has published numerous award-winning short stories. She published her debut paranormal romance novel, Ghostly Interference, Book 1 in The White Rune Series, in 2020, which won a bronze medal award from Reader’s Favorite. Jagged Feathers releases January 31, 2022, as Book 2 of that series, and Saddled Hearts will release later in 2022.
She is an active blogger, an avid fan of Texas music, and a grandmother of five. She resides in North Texas.
Vann Noble is an ex-solider, suffering from PTSD, living off the grid in an isolated cabin. His companion is a stray dog nearly as damaged as he is, but with the same stalwart and loyal heart as Vann’s.
When Vann crosses paths with Nakina Bird—a woman clearly fleeing a dangerous situation—he’s determined to help her. Soon both are on the run, fleeing gunmen bent on retrieving a mysterious package Nakina was given by her former boss.
What stands out in this slick romance most is the time the author invested in her characters. It’s wonderful seeing how Vann and Nakina, both damaged in their own way, find themselves drawing closer together. Nakina also has a psychic gift and is tuned into the metaphysical. Symbols and signs are deftly woven into the plot, including a white rune stone that appeared in Ghostly Interference, book one in this series.
I liked seeing familiar characters return and meeting new ones. Champion, Vann’s dog, stole my heart with his devotion to Nakina. Most of all, the message of love over adversity and the commitment of two souls joining together shines through. The HEA is well-deserved and left me with a warm smile. I’m already looking forward to Colt’s story in the final book of the series. If you love romance woven with suspense and characters who will have you cheering, Jagged Feathers is an ideal read. Finally, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention I love how the author wove the title into the story. A thoroughly enjoyable and romantic read.
Van Noble lost his leg in Afghanistan, and he has a huge inferiority complex about being an incomplete man, but when he discovers Nakina Bird on the run from a Mexican cartel, he steps right up, determined to help her. Thus begins this exciting romance/thriller mashup.
The story has a nice balance of action and romance – the book is definitely both, and Sikes spends a lot of time on character development, which paid off. I connected with both Nakina and Van, and I liked how the action grounded their relationship. Nothing frivolous going on here as they have some serious goals to achieve.
For fans of paranormal fiction or new age mysticism, Nakina has psychic abilities that thread through the story and impact the plot. There are sex scenes and a great deal of sweetness with these characters, but the action ramps up the pace between the romantic lulls. I found both aspects of the story realistic and engaging. Characters from Book One play a secondary role in this story, but this book can be read as a stand-alone without any confusion. Highly recommended to readers who enjoy romance/action mashups.
A soldier seeking solace in a cabin away from the world rescues a woman hunted by killers, not realizing he’s put himself in the crosshairs of death. Vann served his country, and he has the scars to prove it. He’s broken, battered, and suffering from PTSD. His only lifeline is his secluded cabin miles away from a small town in Texas. Oh, and his dog who takes care of him better than any doctor ever did. While in town picking up groceries, he spots a woman running for her life. He’s seen that look of sheer terror while overseas. His instincts kick in and he scoops her up and takes her back to his cabin. She’s on the run from trained killers and her guarded secrets could get them all killed. Can Vann protect her from harm while guarding his heart or is she the love the white rune promised long ago?
Jagged Feathers is a riveting romantic suspense I couldn’t stop reading. From the very first page, my heart went out to Vann. He’s been through so much and deserves someone to love. Nakina is a woman on the run and her plight tugged at my heartstrings. The POV and descriptive narration are deep, emotional, and immersive which make for an incredible reading experience. The more I read, the more invested I became in the characters and storyline. The plot is well-conceived with equal parts action, romance, and suspense. Jan Sikes writes a riveting story with lots of pulse-pounding moments. The romance is well-done with plenty of ‘will they or won’t they’ tension-filled scenes. Brilliant from start to finish, this book needs to be read by the masses. If you’re looking for an unputdownable romantic suspense, pick up Jagged Feathers. I can’t recommend this book enough.
Disclaimer: I received a copy from the author in the hopes I'd review it. My thoughts are all my own.
Having read book one of this series I was looking forward to this next story with much anticipation. I was delighted to catch up with some of the characters from Ghostly Interference and the author made the transition seamless.
Both Vann and Nankina who head the cast in this second book, carry the burden of past events in their lives and the story highlights the many challenges facing those who have served and also civilians who have been touched by tragedy.
The setting is tanquil, but danger and violence intrude into this peaceful backwater. The last thing a recovering soldier with PTSD needs is to be back in a war zone, but his need to protect a defenceless woman becomes a mission he cannot back down from.
This is a high octane thriller and romance, with some intriguing paranormal elements which draws the reader in, and sweeps them along with the action and developing love affair. And then there is also an adorable dog who despite his own past mistreatment gives love in abundance.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and recommend to those who enjoy action packed romances.
I am SO excited that jagged Feathers is releasing one week from today!! This book is dedicated to the men and women in the armed forces who have returned home with wounds, both inside and out. I sincerely hope you'll give this book a chance. The characters, Vann Noble and Nakina Bird, share a love for art. Not just any art, but art made from things that occur in nature, or nature's leavings. Have you ever known anyone who painted on feathers? Nakina does. I love that about her character. I'd love for you to check out the book trailer video, and add this book to your shelf, if it isn't already there!! Thank you! https://youtu.be/CwGRyRVMyLE
Vann Noble has returned from active duty a broken man. He relives the battle in his nightmares every night and is reminded of what he lost every day as he fastens his prosthetic. He has found a small Texas town close to Rena Jett, the sister of Vann’s fallen comrade. She has given him a white rune with the promise that it can bring happily ever after even to someone like him. Vann is returning from town one day when he sees a woman running. He stops to help and finds himself involved in a speeding chase with gunfire and a very ill woman. He will soon realize his life is taking a dramatic turn. Jagged Feathers is the 2nd book in the White Rune series. I love the way that Jan Sikes continued the saga but wrote Jagged Feathers where it can be read after Ghostly Interference or can stand alone by itself. Ghostly Interference references are seen in Jagged Feathers but not in an overwhelming way or does Sikes retell the entire story from the first book. It is just enough. The characters are developed in a way that you bond with each one and she left has left me anticipating what the white rune will bring in the next story.
After reading book one of the White Rune series, I was excited to read the second installment. It was worth the wait! I enjoyed it even more than Ghostly Interference.
The male lead, Vann Noble, is physically and emotionally traumatized when the book begins. His coping mechanism is a loyal dog (Champion) who has scars of his own. These don’t seem like a pair who would adapt easily to someone invading their sanctuary, but when Nakina Bird needs rescuing, the two heroes rise to the occasion.
Because this is a romance, we expect the three to become a family, but the journey toward a happily-ever-after ending is fraught with peril, and there are several pulse-pounding, nail-biting moments when their future is uncertain.
The use of the white rune and the return of characters from the first book easily ground this novel in a world and series that is a joy to experience. And while reading the stories in order add a little something special, it’s not necessary. You can easily call this a stand-alone and read it as the entry to the series.
I enjoyed this work very much and look forward to the next installment. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
Jagged Feathers by Jan Sikes is Book 2 in The White Rune Series. This is a fast-paced military romance set in Texas with strong elements of action and suspense. As compared to the multi-layer, heartfelt Book 1 (Ghostly Interference), the second book has a faster pace fitting for the main character Vann —a military veteran from the Afghanistan war who is haunted by emotional wounds. He feels like the shell of the vibrant man he once was, as he struggles to adjust to a prosthetic leg. A character from the first book (Rena Jett) gives Vann a white rune symbolizing a happy ever ending which his former military buddy (Sam), who died in the war, had given her.
After receiving the rune, Vann is unaware that his life is about to change when he rescues a mysterious woman running away from a ricochet of bullets. Although the woman is seriously ill with a hacking cough, she refuses to go to the hospital. Vann's military training kicks in as he takes the woman back home to take care of her. As she recovers, he learns that her name is Nakina and that she is being chased by a drug cartel. The crime organization wants a package she is safeguarding for her boss who has gone missing. Since Nakina is hesitant to go to the police, Vann is drawn into danger with a woman he hardly knows but is attracted to. Can he find love with Nakina with a dubious past? Is he willing to risk everything, including his life, to gamble that he will find his happy ever ending with this mysterious woman?
Author Jan Sikes has taken the series to another level in which the elements of action and adventure are critical for Vann to accept his disability and to find a reason for living. I was immediately immersed in Vann's despair in the first chapter but then swept into an action scene when he must rescue Nakina. Overall, the characters are engaging and the dialogue is natural. For those who love dogs, Vann has a part German Shepherd, part Border Collie companion that helps him deal with his PTSD. Riveting action scenes juxtapose steamy love scenes. There could have been more built-up of suspense in later scenes to make the climax resonate.
What I like most about the story is the character development of Vann. His strength of character shines through when he is put in life-threatening situations and must use his military experience to get through it. Not only must he take a chance to trust and to love Nakina, but he must also risk being hurt if she does not accept him with his disability. He is the epitome of what many women like to see in a romantic partner—strong-minded, protective, and caring.
For those who enjoy reading the blend of fast-paced suspense and steamy military romance with an engaging war vet longing for true love, I recommend Jagged Feathers.
“Jagged Feathers” focuses on Vann or the soldier who brought the message back from Sam in “Ghostly Interference.” He has settled into a cabin with a stray dog who found him. He is broken from the war and vows not to give his heart to anyone. But he also has the rune given to him by another couple, Jag and Rena, who found their happily ever after. When Vann goes into town to get supplies, he runs across a sick woman, Nakina, who needs help. Promising not to go to the hospital, he takes care of her. One thing I really loved about this story is the gentleness of these two characters and their journey. Vann doesn’t feel like a whole man with part of his leg missing but is courageous and kind. Nakina is not only running from some bad people but learning about her gifts and how to use them. Both are artistically inclined, with Vann working with wood and Nakina feathers. Painting feathers completely fascinated me. Plus, they both are carrying issues from their past that could hold them back. I fell in love with the stray dog Champion and this couple. When the bad finds Nakina, it becomes nonstop action while this couple keeps connecting. It’s a beautiful love trying to bloom while they battle the bad guys. This was a perfect blend of PTSD, guilt, bad guys, friendship, acceptance, and embracing the spiritual realm. I absolutely loved this story and can’t wait for the next rune couple. 😊 I highly recommend!
What an amazing and phenomenal book. Jagged Feather’s has become my favorite suspense book I’ve read in 2022. Jan Sikes has a talent that mirrors the authors, that’s on top of the Best Sellers List.
Vann and Nakina’s story had me sitting on the edge of my seat from start to end. There was not one lull in this high octane book. Vann and Nakina’s strong bond to go up against evil was one of the best plots I have ever read.
If you love fast paced, hold your breath drama, wait no longer, grab this book and be transported into the realm of the Cartel. Their evil, their determination to inflict their wide range of terror, into normal everyday peoples lives.
Truly an inspiring book of truth, honor, faith, and love.
Veteran Vann Noble is a wounded soldier who wants nothing to do with the outside world. He’s comfortable in his cabin in the woods and rarely ventures into town for anything except supplies for him and the stray dog he’s taken in.
On one such trip, a young woman dashes in front of him, terror on her beautiful face. When she collapses on the side of the road, Vann helps her to his vehicle and takes her home to recover.
Nakina awakens in a stranger’s cabin, but the threat that’s been after her for days is gone. She feels safe with the quiet Vann Noble and his protective Shepherd and soon relays the story of why she’s on the run. Vann insists on helping her even though it places him, and the family he loves, in danger.
Though they barely know each other, Vann is determined to protect the mysterious woman he’s drawn to even if she could never love him in return. The loss of his leg and the PTSD he carries is more than he can expect her to live with.
This is an inspirational love story with a touch of metaphysical. I connected most with Vann. He’s been through physical and emotional trauma, and even though he doesn’t see it in himself, his actions throughout the story proves he’s a hero.
Wow. One of the top books I’ve read in a while. I’d give it more sparklers if I could. The author had me from page one and didn’t let me go until the end. She starts off hard and fast, then things kind of work out and the book goes into a “safe” lull, which is where most romantic suspense stories would end. But no. She doesn’t let you rest as the danger ramps up again before our hero and heroine are really safe and have a satisfying ending that leaves you happy for them.
I loved all the Native American imagery and symbolism in the story. The blue feathers, the blue jay, the dream catcher…all of it added to the story. Even the paranormal aspects added a layer that helped set the stage for the plot.
Nakina is a woman in trouble. Vann is a wounded veteran with PTSD and a missing leg who wants nothing more than peace and solitude. But when he finds Nakina, sick and terrified of the men chasing her, what can he do but help? He takes her in, nurses her back to health, and then helps her with the “problem” she has – one that killed her boss and may end up with her dead too. They enlist the help of neighbors and friends and the DEA gets involved. Vann also finds out that Nakina has visions, but she can’t control them and doesn’t know if they’re from the past, present, or future. They learn to trust each other enough to share their deepest secrets and discover love in the process. I loved the dog Champion. And the “messages” from Nakina’s grandmother that keep popping up. One thing I hope is that Colt, the neighbor, gets his own story. I can’t wait for that one!
Recommendation: Get this book! If you love romantic suspense with a touch of the paranormal, you will love this book. Definitely recommended.

It has everything you want Thriller ,romance, drug Lords, and farm hands with a little bit of fantasy.
The writer has an exceptional talent to really tell the story and transport you there. I cannot wait to pick up the next book in this series !! I hope Colt finds love!

I loved this book and could not put it down. It had romance, mystery , danger, and some supernatural things that happened . You will love this book! I couldn’t sleep as I had to finish it.
The beautiful cover had me wanting to read this book, which is the second book in The White Rune Series, and while I prefer to start a series from the beginning, nothing significant is missed in the storyline with Vann and Nakina. The author adds snippets of information of what happened in the first book, Ghostly Interference, leaving Jagged Feathers to flow well on its own. The author grabs your attention in the first chapter and holds it throughout the story. The premise of a broken soldier finding his purpose isn’t new, but the author puts a unique spin to her storyline that is quite enjoyable. Vann and Nakina have a captivating romance that grows with the turn of every page. Vann’s dog, Champion, was a highlight in the story for me, as were the ‘signs’ and Nakina’s visions. The action and suspense are well-developed, and just when you think the dust has settled, the author gives the reader what they’ve been waiting for with a confrontation of action. The ending is sweet and has you smiling when Van gives the rune to a friend, which will have you anxious for book three. I highly recommend reading Jagged Feathers. Reviewed for Still Moments Magazine.
Author Jan Sikes delivers in Book 2 of the White Rune Series. At the end of Book 1, Ghostly Interference, Rena Jett gives Vann Nobel a White Rune she received from her brother Sam. Rena believes it symbolizes a happy ever after ending. Vann takes it but doesn’t think that ending is possible for him.
Vann is looking for peace and recovery from his military experience. He is haunted nightly by the war and reliving the event that took not only his friend Sam but a portion of his leg. After finding Rena he decides to remain in Texas and rents a small cabin, taking in and nursing an injured dog back to life. Champion is the quintessential roommate who loves and protects.
Vann delivered some of his carved wood pieces to a shop in town and spots a woman running away from something. Barely coherent, Nakina Bird crumples to the ground and Vann’s instincts to save her kick in. The woman floats in and out of consciousness, refusing hospital care. He brings her to his house and becomes her caretaker. Days later when she can get up and move about regaining strength they exchange information, though each holds back.
The character development through this book is detailed. Each delicate layer is peeled back like the leaves of a cabbage—fragile in some areas and resilient in others. Vann suffers PTSD along with physical challenges and Nakina has a gift of sight she’s unable to control nor often understands. They are fighting to overcome their own self-doubts when they realize they must flee from the killers hunting Nakina and are forced to rely on each other. The depth of these characters is illustrated in their fortitude and tenacity as with this section below.
When I’d ran from the office, I only grabbed my backpack and not my purse. That was a big mistake because I didn’t have any money. And then my phone died, and I didn’t have any way to get a charger.” “How did you wind up in Cedar Springs?” “When the bus stopped, I decided it was time to make a run for it. I thought I could hide for a few hours and then catch the next bus to Dallas. But every time I got close to the bus station; I saw them. So, I hid in the alleyways behind dumpsters until the morning you found me.” She stopped and bent over, coughing. “That’s how I got sick.” “So, you hadn’t had any food and were exposed to the elements for days before I found you?” She nodded. “I managed to find a few scraps to eat. Enough to keep me alive. I truly don’t know what would have happened to me if you hadn’t come along when you did.
Jagged Feathers is a fast-moving adventure with chases on land and in the water complete with bullets flying the threats at every turn. Our two heroes adapt to one another for survival. As their friendship develops respect for one another grows. In weak moments they each try to image more, but don’t believe they are worthy. Each scene and conversation in this action-packed story are built upon the layer before.
I picked up Jagged Feathers based on the blurb, which has an intriguing premise and a promise of traditional thriller action. The story opens with a solitary character Vann Noble and his loving dog, Champion. Both are survivors of traumatic experiences and seem to have found a way to come to grips with their past. That alone is a good premise for a book. There’s more, though. On a trip to town, Vann helps a woman, Nakita Bird, who is very sick, escape some mobsters throwing lead in all directions. He takes her back to his solitary home so she can recover. We could stop there, but unfortunately, the thugs want to retrieve what they feel belongs to them. So here we have a real thriller situation. How do Vann and Nakita stay out of harm’s way and yet get the thugs to back off? Ah. The very core plot of the book. I can assure you the story moves fast, and the resolution is terrific work by the author. To add a bit more, the author brought in Nakita’s abilities to sense feelings and see scenes of life. This ability is not a slam dunk in problem-solving. Nakita often doesn’t know if the emotions or visions are current, past, or future. The author cleverly included this caveat to keep the reader guessing. There is a grandmother spirit who tries to provide comfort and is a delightful addition to the cast. The topper is the couple fall in love, so there is a healthy dose of romance. Not being a true fan of suspense romance, I was glad other elements like suspense, action, exceptional character development, and fast-moving plot were all in abundance. Also, this is the first book I read of the Rune series by this author, and I can attest you can enjoy this one as a standalone. So, if you want to read a well-written story with a big helping of action, I recommend Jagged Feathers.
This book kicks off to an action packed start that introduces the reader to first, Vann Noble, the male main character of the book, and then the female lead, Nakina. This is an entertaining read that remains fast paced throughout and offers an engaging plot and a delightful romance. The author weaves a lot of interesting information into the story line in the form of cultural diversity, the drug cartels and the horror they bring into people's lives, and a military backstory with a PTSD twist.
Vann is a fascinating character. A handsome and dynamic young man who has experienced great losses during his military experiences abroad. His military career ended with an incident which claimed the life of his best friend, Sam, and also a part of his leg, leaving him partially disabled. Vann is struggling to come to terms with these losses and is attempting to exorcise his monsters by creating and selling art made from natural products and living in a peaceful place where there are few external demands made on him. This peaceful existence is turned upside down when her runs into Nikina and decides to come to her aid.
Nikina has become embroiled in a nightmare with a drug cartel due to her job as a legal secretary. Through no fault of her own, she ends up on the run with a package to deliver on behalf of her boss, dead at the hands of cartel henchmen. Nikina has the good fortune to be assisted out of a deadly situation by Vann and he becomes her carer as she struggles back to good health. Nikina is a great character with everything a woman could wish for, good looks, talent as a painter, and a promising job until everything in her work life goes pear shaped and she ends up in danger.
This is a well written and interesting novel that will appeal to readers who enjoy a solid plot combined with a heartwarming romance.
I read the first book in the Rune series and looked forward to reading book 2. Here, Vann Noble returns home from war, missing part of his body, he's feeling depressed, and suffering from survivor's guilt. If not for his faithful companion, Champion, a mixed shepherd/Collie, he would end it all. The dog is better than any medicine he's taken.
On a recent trip to town, he comes upon a female in distress. She is ill and running away from folks who are shooting at her and trying to kill her. Vann rescues her and returns to his 'off the grid' cabin to nurse her back to health.
He soon learns that she is running from the killers of a Mexican cartel who want what she's carrying (a package and a key). It doesn't take long for the cartel to find them at the hidden away cabin, which forces Vann and Nakina to flee.
Nakina has supernatural powers and a dead grandmother who provides protective support on their escape journey. However, the cartel has far-reaching resources that continue to cross their paths. The cartel finally locates Nakina's sister and kidnaps her for leverage, which forces the pair to a face-to-face meeting to trade.
The story is action-filled and suspenseful. The characters are well-defined and the story is error-free. A romance also takes root along with some steamy sex scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed JAGGED FEATHERS by Jan Sikes and recommend it to anyone wanting a compelling read. I also look forward to the last book in the White Rune series.
Having read Ghostly Interference (Book 1 in the White Rune Series), I knew that I would enjoy Jan Sikes's next book in this series. I was not disappointed. Vann Noble, a soldier who had been damaged physically and emotionally during his time in Afghanistan, comes upon Nakina Byrd, a young woman who has gotten herself mixed up with a Mexican drug cartel. As Vann helps Nakina recover from pneumonia, he becomes emotionally involved with her.
Vann lost a part of himself in the war and has preferred to live isolated from most other people with Champion, his loyal, loving, and intelligent dog. Nakina falls for both Vann and Champion, but her primary concern at the moment is trying to protect her sister, Adele, whom the cartel is utilizing as leverage over Nakina.
I thought Sikes did an excellent job of developing her characters, and I immediately invested in the story. The first 2/3 of the book was riveting and fast-paced, but I thought the suspense peaked a little early. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed the novel. One of the strengths of this read was that it dealt with a serious topic (PTSD) in a sensitive, realistic way.
An emotional read with complex characters, an ex-soldier with PTSD and one less limb, and an Indian woman, Nakina Bird, who is clairvoyant and on the run from a drug cartel. Put these two together and you are sure to have an intriguing and intense read.
The storyline was full of intrigue, danger, emotion and love as Nakina seeks refuge with Vann who is dealing with his own demons. It doesn’t take long for Vann and his trusty dog, Champion, who suffered injuries of his own, to feel deeply protective of this woman in danger.
There are symbols of Nakina’s culture throughout the story - her grandmother who talks to her and gives her courage to take on the tough times, blue feathers from a blue jay that keep appearing, and a rune that Vann keeps in his pocket to ensure he will have a happy life one day. All these symbols add to the story to make it more intense and emotional.
This was an enjoyable read with plenty of tense, romantic, and clairvoyant situations to keep this reader engaged.
Injured veteran, Vann Noble is trying to follow his counselors advice and find a reason to live or at least one not to die. His dog, Champion, showed up scarred and pitiful but has grown to be his care giver. The sensitive canine knows how to calm his PTSD symptoms and nightmares.
Nakina Bird is staying one step ahead of dangerous men with the help of her psychic gifts and dead grandmother. When the military man decides to protect her, he has to scramble to keep them both from dying.
While armed drug dealers pursue them, they have to share their secrets. Sikes has written a page-turning adventure where scars are healed as love proves to be stronger than painful secrets. This is the second book in the White Rune series, but the first I read. I've gotten the first now and can't wait for the next book! Highly recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, Ghostly Interference, so I knew I would love Jagged Feathers. Vann Noble is a wounded ex service man, doing his best to adjust to a life he didn’t think he would come home to. A life he wasn’t sure he wanted anymore. But life hadn’t quite finished with him. What follows is one of the best many layered love stories I have ever read. Heart warming and affirming, reminding me that love can always find a way, one way or another. The two leading characters, Vann Noble and Nakina Bird, are both damaged and hampered by past experiences. They were not looking for love, just a little peace and time to heal. Add an adorable dog to the mix, one who also needs time to heal, and you have a very good combination…
Wow! Few books grab and hold me as quickly as Jagged Feathers. I can't say enough good things about this story that's brimming with heart. It has everything--an ex-soldier dealing with trying to heal from wounds and trauma left by the war, a woman confused and scared by her psychic gift and running for her life, and a dog that's suffered horribly but hasn't lost his ability to love. Vann Noble and Nakina Bird have what each other need and find an unexpected love. I've never read a more beautiful love story. These two made me ache. I can't wait to read the next book by Jan Sikes. I hear it's about the country music sensation turned rancher Colt Layne. He's a honey!
Vann Noble is a wounded warrior who suffers from PTSD after a tour in Afghanistan. Together with his trusty canine companion, Champion, he lives a somewhat secluded life in a remote cabin.
Nakina Bird suddenly finds herself mixed up in a dangerous situation. Vann comes to her rescue and together the two of them travel to Dallas to deliver a mysterious package Nakina’s boss gave her.
The book is a mixture of suspense and romance. Nakina has Native American heritage, and I loved reading some of their customs and beliefs. Jagged Feathers blends lots of action and plenty of romance.
This is the second book of the White Rune Series, and I eagerly await book three.
I loved everything about this book. Two broken souls -- one, a soldier who felt unworthy of love after losing his leg in the war, and a naive Native women whose life is mess, unworthy in her mind because of a stupid mistake that put her and many others in a fight for survival -- somehow, they happen to be at the same place at the same time. Or is it fate? I won't spoil it for you.
If you're searching for a fast-part storyline, loads of action, and a beautiful subplot, don't overlook Jagged Feathers! The characterization is superb, the payoffs well-earned, and the ending left me smitten. Highly recommend.
The mystic combined with fast-paced action in a novel. What could be more intriguing than that? The book starts off like a bullet out of the chamber and never stops, page after page of nonstop action and thrills. The reader never knows who or what will happen next. I was interested in the artistic aspect of the novel with the woodworking and painting of the feathers. I thought the author expertly added it to the storyline, and it added a unique twist to the book. This is the first novel I have read by this author but will not be the last.
Jan Sike's books just get better and better. Jagged Feathers is the best Mystery/Suspense book that I've read in 2022 and ranks up there with my favorites reads in the genre.
Jagged Feathers is book two in the White Ruin Series and can be read as a stand alone. However, it does bring back characters, like Jett, from Ghostly Interference, book one in series. Jett passes on the White Ruin that she accredits with her finding love and her happily ever after. The recipient of the ruin is Vann Noble. The best friend of Jett's brother that didn't make it home from the war in Afghanistan.
Vann Noble, is a former soldier, one that served his country and lost a limb doing it. Vann not only lost a limb, he lost part of himself, as well as, what exactly is his meaning in life anymore. That is, until, a stray dog gives Vann a reason to go on, a reason for him to get up every morning and get on with life. Champion is a dog that many may say Vann rescued but this dog is one heck of a rescue dog himself.
Vann is out on a supply run in a small Texas town near his cabin, when he happens upon Nakina Bird, a woman on the run. Vann is there, just at the right moment to save Nakia. Two thugs, in all black, in a black vehicle, yelling in a foreign language start shooting at Nakina. Vann's military training kicks in and he's able to save Nakina before the two men abduct her and he takes home with him. His cabin will be the perfect place for Nakina to hide, rest and recover from what is most likely pneumonia.
Oh what a read! Jagged Feathers is an excellent, fast paced book, one that I highly recommend to anyone that loves a great suspense book, a Military Romance or a book that is more than a just another Romance Novel. I can't wait to see what the White Ruin has in store for Colt, Vanns friend, neighbor, and the new recipient of the White Ruin relic.
