Life was an American magazine published weekly from 1883 to 1972, as an intermittent "special" until 1978, and as a monthly from 1978 until 2000. During its golden age from 1936 to 1972, Life was a wide-ranging weekly general interest magazine known for the quality of its photography.
What a fun read. Frank Capra was a complex man. I was surprised to find out that several of the actors were born only a decade after the Civil War ended. Several lived into their 90s. If you Google the other actors, these were the upper echelon of the entertainment industry at that time, or would be. Google Sheldon Leonard. I never made the connection.
I was pleased to see this magazine come out last year. It's a Wonderful Life is one of my favorite movies. This is the 75th anniversary edition. It is full of facts about the movie and gives small autobiographical writes about the actors. it is almost 100 pages long with generous pictures. a fun read for fans of the movie.
I have always been a fan of this film, and i taught it several years as an English teacher, so it's near and dear to my heart. So when I saw this magazine on the newsstand at a local store, I had to buy it and devour it before I sent it on to one of my former students to read. There were lots of articles on how the film was made, biographies of the main characters, along with the memorable secondary ones, as well. I'd give it a 4 out of 5 , in that I wish it could have given me even more insight and info . I must say I have read a lot on the subject already, including Capra's autobiography ("the name above the title" ) so maybe it could be me.
