Matt Grey excels at many things, but relationships aren’t one of them. As a former Army Ranger Special Ops team member and current attorney, he has enough tools in his arsenal to get through almost anything, except heartache after the only woman he ever loved leaves him. Lara West has seen it all. As a tough-as-nails journalist, she made it her mission to expose the world’s atrocities and make sure the world knew what the US government didn’t want them to know. Her life had purpose. Her heart was full. She had the man of her dreams… until she received evidence that Matt wasn’t the man she thought he was. She turned her heartache into action and now devotes her life going undercover in dangerous places to share the plight of those who are abused, malnourished, and mistreated. When Lara finds herself in the crosshairs of a fight she can’t win alone, Matt, who now works for a private security agency made up of other former Army Rangers Special Ops, must come to the rescue. With everything on the line, will these former lovers work together to save themselves or will their past come back to haunt them?
Susie McIver is a native Californian and lifelong lover of great books. Born into a family of ten children, there were plenty of stories to tell and share. It’s only fitting she now writes books of her own. When she’s not writing or plotting her next book, she enjoys walking in nature, fishing in a lake near her home, reading, and spending as much time as she can with her three amazing children, five beautiful grandchildren, and her husband, whom she proudly says is her best friend in the world. Even though I enjoyed the storyline I have found it hard to get used to the way this author writes. As I liked the characters and the story I will continue to read her work.
Someone tore them apart and neither knows the truth of why. All they know is that the other hurt them so badly they put themselves in danger.
The characters are alpha males with a heart of gold who risk their lives rescuing others and hunting down the bad guys. Men who fall in love quickly and will do anything to protect what is his and is brothers in arms. They are family.
This compelling story pulls you into a web of action, mystery, and danger, revealing more complex situations as tension builds, and the stakes grow higher.
I slogged through this one in a night, skimming most of it due to stilted character dialogue, unrealistic action scenes, and a writing style that just doesn't flow. The blurbs are so well written and intriguing that the story simply leaves me disappointed due to the delivery. I don't remember the author's other series being this stilted, so I will go back to them and avoid any more books from the this series.
Matt and Lara, finally get their act together! However, two hard headed individuals cannot seem to do anything the easy way! Ms. McIver, again writes an amazing novel full of suspense, chaos, and intrigue. And, not to forget, she has the romantic part down. This novel, I'm was someday for, Lara simply kept putting herself in situations that were perilous. While it might seem when just didn't use her brain, she simply felt she had to help, all. Then she and Matt begin talking after she took a position helping runaways and street kids. Again, Lara is back to where she left, in insane trouble, even if this time it wasn't her jumping in feet first. Matt, Matt cannot say no, and it's a good thing, someone obviously has to keep Lara safe. But, Lara still cannot resist, again she is in trouble. Matt and the Army Rangers have a handful in Lara and now others due tom her predicaments. This author, Susie McIver, keeps you going, the pace is fast, the writing terrific, the one liners and humor midst all the crazy, keeps you drawn in, it's amazing. She constantly brings you into the novel, whether in Afghanistan, South America, the US, it simply does not matter. Ms. McIver writes so descriptively, you cannot help but feel part of the book. Then hanging, waiting, hoping the next installment will be sooner than expected! Like "The Navy Band Of Seals", "Army Rangers Special OPS" is awesome. You always want more!
Matt’s story was mostly, Lara’s story. To the point where, it got tedious as to how much trouble can one woman, find herself in. At the beginning of the book you had, the dread of them being around one another.
Because Matt is on his way, again to rescue, Lara. She is in another tight spot, in a wartorn country. This time with a bounty, on her head. So, anger doesn't begin to cover what he is feeling. Not to mention, what he still holds for their breakup.
The breakup she will not tell him why she up, of the blue, or why she did it. Yup, that still fuels the aggregation between them. Every time you turn around, Lara is in trouble needing to be rescued.
It's during the rescue that, Matt does, that she tells, why she broke up with, him. Matt is not happy with what he is hearing. But, this is a turning point for Lara, but not for trouble following her and Matt coming to her rescue.
However, the meetings are much more friendly and successful, in finding a way back to each other. Enjoyed the book but would like to have had more POV from Matt. Not to mention what he was doing on the island and Guinn, really? Oops?! Where did she come from and when?
This was ok. I didn’t realise this was book 3 in a series until I reached a chapter 11 where I had no idea who James or Erin was. I couldn’t follow all the characters and who was who and didn’t know how they fitted into the story. The narrative was very matter-of-fact and didn’t flow smoothly. As a result I lost interest in the story partway through but persisted since I wanted to know the ending. Everything seemed like it all fell into place so perfectly, like how Lara just happens to rescue the kids of a woman who visits her in hospital to say her thanks but just so happens to be a hairdresser by trade as she’s been wanting a haircut and gives her one on the spot.
Overall I don’t think I will continue with this series as the writing style just wasn’t for me.
A continuing story of a group of ex- Army Rangers who have left the military and form a company that rescues Americans usually in other countries. This story focuses on Matt and the love of his life Lara. Their story is rocky at best. Nothing goes right for this pair. There are multiple rescues described all seeming quick and easy. There are twists that changes the trajectory of the tale. There are lives saved. There are lives lost. There is honest work. There is dishonest work. There is the desire to save as many lives as possible. There are lives that just can’t be saved. There is so much action it is a hard book to put down. At the end there are still parts of the story that haven’t been resolved, people who are unaccounted for, questions still unanswered,.
The worst part of being part of the Special Ops is knowing that those you love could be in danger. So when once again the crew finds themselves helping out Lara, a journalist covering the issues in Afghanistan, Matt is left on the wrong end of her wrath. Although once lovers, the two are now sworn enemies - but when some truths are revealed Lara's walls come crumbling down. Will Matt be there to pick up the pieces? From the minute you meet Lara and Matt you can literally feel their connection and hope that they will sit down and talk. Communication is the word of the day and when it happens true love cannot be denied. A pair the reader just wants to hug.
I am reading the series because my late father was a lifetime Ranger and I myself worked for them at one point in my career. The one thing that bugs me is when reporters on TV and civilians get military rank incorrect. I don't know about the other services but when speaking an Army Lieutenant Colonel is never addressed as lieutenant but as Colonel! Other than that , so far I'm enjoying the series. FYI also a Sergeant Major is not referred to as sergeant or major but as Sergeant Major, and a Major General and Lieutenant General are both referred to as General for short .
I wanted this to be good but alas, it was not. Jumps around both in time and place. So hard to fo!low. Just like the first two books, characters just pop up with no explanation. Stories have so much potential but just are not developed. Will not be reading any more of this series. Probably should have rated it two stars, but didn't want others to turn away in case they may actually enjoy these stories.
I have loved all of Susie McIver books so far. I'm new to her books but can't wait for the next one. Poor Matt he's always having to rescue Lara. She always thinks of everyone but herself. I recommend this book to anyone who likes military men and strong women.
This book has a lot of danger, suspense, action, thrillers, and keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat until the next chapter and next page until the very end of this book, looking forward to reading the next book from this author
Love this story because it's a continuous flow of the story line. Plenty of action and suspense. Lara is always getting in trouble. Matt wished he knew what had happened to cause her to break up with him. HEA.
