About the author

USA Today best selling author Maureen Child is the author of more than ninety romance novels and novellas. Maureen is a five time nominee for the prestigious Rita award from Romance Writers of America.
One of her novels, A Pocketful Of Paradise, was made into a CBS-TV movie called The Soul Collector, starring Melissa Gilbert, Bruce Greenwood and Ossie Davis.
Over the years, she’s written under lots of different names and she prefers the term ‘pseudonym’ to ‘alias’. As Ann Carberry, she wrote western historical romances. As Kathleen Kane, she wrote not only Americana romances, but western paranormal romances as well. As Sarah Hart, she wrote one really spectacular western paranormal that is still one of her favorites. And once, Ann Carberry even wrote a Victorian historical which she absolutely loved doing.

Margie is a goody two shoed orphan in baggy clothes and Hunter is a sanctimonious asshat in navy whites.

She was/is his grandfather's assistant, but she also moonlights as Hunter's wife.
Hunter really should read the fine print on the company stuff his grandpa sends him to sign!
It would have all run smoothly (probably) if Hunter hadn't shown up with no advance warning. Now he's pissed and sure that she's a gold digging so-and-so.

Anyways, Margie gets a makeover and now everyone is ogling her ass.
Adding jealousy to his list of hangups does not improve Hunter's sunny disposition! ...wait, jealous of his own wife??
Anyways, he's finally realizing that nirvana has been in his own backyard his whole life, when Gretchen, his ex-girlfriend shows up. Ouch! Don't think you can call it cheating, as he didn't know he was married while dating Gretchen...?

SOoo a predictable but entertaining HP. He does grovel nicely but it could have used an epilogue.

safety is good but not particularly satisfying Margie is a 29 yr old virgin (sigh, Really??). Hunter recently got dumped by Gretchen the 6ft blond Swedish model, after almost-sort-of proposing to her. He's not heartbroken but it still kinda stuck in my craw how she is never referred to as Gretchen but instead as 'gorgeous Gretchen'... in his thoughts and his buddy's words. Made Margie feel like second best no matter how much the author harped on about what a lovely charitable person she was.

Saat Hunter pulkam, dia tidak mengharapkan mendapat kejutan memperoleh istri dadakan. Margie juga tidak mengharapkan kedatangan suami yg tidak pernah ditemuinya, tiba-tiba menjadi hal nyata dan menguasai kehidupannya. Masing-masing pihak tidak bakal menyangka bhw pernikahan palsu mereka akan mengubah takdir dan perasaan mereka satu sama lain.

Ide nikah paksa ini sebenarnya lucu juga mengingat pekerjaan tokoh hero ini adalah anggota tim SWAT yg bisa teledor dan dikecoh oleh kakeknya, agak kurang masuk nalar saya. Tetapi tidak usah dipermasalahkan. Yg jadi masalah adalah ketakutan Hunter bhw dirinya akan "dipantek" selamanya di kota kecil tsb akan meredam jiwa petualangnya. Baiklah, Hunter berubah pikiran krn mencintai Margie. Hal terakhir yg saya kurang sukai adalah drama sengit dgn penampilan orang ketiga yg mencoba penetrasi ke dalam hubungan mrk yg sedang rapuh2nya. Masih tertolong dgn pengambilan sikap Hunter yg tegas dan tanpa tedeng aling2 mengusir pihak ketiga.

Sikap Margie yg kelewat idealis mengenai cinta juga makin memperumit hubungan yg sedari awal sudah sangat rentan. Kerapuhan rasa percaya diri Margie bikin saya gregetan. Untunglah sifat Hunter layaknya pria alpha yg gigih dan keras kepala "menyelamatkan" novel ini dari bencana drama bertubi-tubi. Kesimpulannya novel ini lumayan saja, tapi memuaskan di ending-nya.

Hunter pulang ke kampungnya dan menjumpai semua orang yang mengatakan istrinya pasti senang menunggu kepulangannya. Hal yang lucu karena Hunter sendiri tidak merasa pernah menikah. Sampai dia menemukan seorang gadis yang mandi di kamarnya, dan mengetahui mungkin itulah istrinya.

Tapi lucunya ya sebatas itu saja. Maggie sendiri, meski akhirnya menyukai Hunter selalu menolak ketika Hunter benar2 ingin menikahinya. Maggie hanya mempersulit situasi saja.

Setelah lama bertugas di luar negeri sebagai perwira militer, Hunter kembali ke Springville, pulang ke rumah untuk bertemu kembali dengan Simon, kakeknya, yang merupakan pengganti kedua orang tuanya yang tewas sejak Hunter masih kecil.

Saat mampir di pom bensin dan supermarket, Hunter sangat terkejut ketika beberapa warga Springville yang ditemuinya mengatakan bahwa istri Hunter di rumah pasti sudah tak sabar menunggu kepulangannya. Ini aneh sekali. Hunter bahkan belum menikah!

Ternyata sudah setahun lebih wanita itu berpura-pura menjadi istrinya dan tinggal di rumahnya, padahal sepanjang waktu itu Hunter bertugas membela negara di luar negeri.

Dengan rasa penasaran, Hunter pun bertanya pada kakeknya. Beliau terkekeh, itu semua idenya. Kakeknya yang tinggal seorang diri membutuhkan anggota keluarga untuk tanda tangan keputusan medis jika sewaktu-waktu ia terkena serangan jantung.

Margie, wanita yang menjadi asisten di kantor kakeknya pun diminta tolong untuk menjadi istri pura-pura Hunter. Setidaknya sampai Hunter selesai bertugas.

Margie yang awalnya tidak bersedia, akhirnya menyanggupi setelah kakek Hunter menjanjikan 5 juta dollar. Lagipula toh, Hunter tidak ada, jadi ia tidak perlu berperan sebagai istri.

Tentu saja Hunter ngamuk. Kakeknya berkelit bahwa dokumen pernikahannya sah, ada tanda-tangan Hunter yang tertera.

Saat bertugas, kakeknya sering mengirimkan beberapa dokumen perusahaan untuk ditanda-tangani, namun ia malas membacanya. Hunter pun kesal, mengapa ia tidak membaca secara teliti dan tidak menyadari bahwa dalam tumpukan tersebut terselip dokumen pernikahan.

Hunter pun segera mengatur perceraian. Margie hanya punya waktu sebulan di rumah dan setelah itu Hunter tidak ingin melihat wanita itu lagi.

Namanya juga novel romance, dalam sebulan Hunter melihat kesungguhan Margie merawat kakeknya. Belum lagi peran Margie sebagai istri dalam lingkungan sosial. Lama-lama Hunter luluh dan mulai jatuh cinta.

Namun Margie bersikap sebaliknya, ketika Hunter berniat untuk membatalkan perceraian, Margie tetap bersikukuh untuk bercerai. Menurutnya pernikahan palsu tidak layak untuk diteruskan.

Novel harlequin ini memang lumayan ampuh saat reading slump melanda. Dalam sehari bisa saya tuntaskan karena alurnya ringan, tidak bertele-tele dan tentu saja happy ending.

Gombalannya Hunter pun menghibur, rada basi dan bikin nyengir.

Wkwkwkwkwkwk... kurang lebih itu reaksi saya selama baca novel ini. Bukan karena lucu tapi aslik sumpah romancenya gombal beud LOL.

Saya kira dari judul novelnya yang hero itu yang jadi pahlawannya terus yang heroine yang jadi miliunernya. Eh ternyata diborong semua sama heronya. Hubungan Hunter dan Margie juga seperti Tom and Jerry tapi gatau kenapa saya kurang klik aja. Tapi jalan ceritanya ringan dan menghibur kok.

It was ok. I found the romance a bit rushed, but it is a Harlequin book. He is a navy SEAL who is injured and comes home to recuperate, only to find out he's married. Thanks to his grandfather. She was his grandfather's assistant and he thinks she's a golddigger. His grandfather also wants him to take over the business, but that's the last thing he wants.

When I couldn't sleep last night, I went through the carousel on my Kindle. Then I went through the 12 shelves containing my TBR pile. Nothing just jumped out at me. Until I found this 2009 book by Maureen Child. I'm not sure how it slipped my attention before now but once I pulled it off the shelf and read the opening, I knew this was just the ticket. This is "vintage" Harlequin Desire. It's fun, a bit sexy, and slightly improbable but that's the allure! Hunter Cabot is a Navy SEAL. He's also one of "those" Cabots--founding family of Springville, California (and millionaires). Wounded on his last mission, he's home for 30 days of R&R. Only he discovers he has a wife. And he finds her in the shower of his suite of rooms in the family mansion. Oh, yes. There are sparks--of anger, distrust, and desire.

Margie Donohue "Cabot" was a throw-away kid and she's found a home in Springfield and with Simon, Hunter's grandfather and patriarch of the Cabot family.

Yes, the book is predictable. But that's the joy of it. There are going to be misunderstandings, temper, good sex, love, and a wonderful HEA. I'm glad I re-discovered this little gem!

This was an okay read. Hunter is a super hero but she's just too good to be true. So pathetic, so willing to do anything to look after Simon [Hunter's grandfather] and so willing to look after the town. She made my teeth hurt with her over-the-top sweetness. And the whole public displays of affection were just so cheep. No one should be subjected to that kind of writing. I just hate it when it seems as though it is the manly thing for the hero to declare his love in public. These are so much nicer when done quietly, privately. They are for private satisfaction, not public display. So, okay, but very foolish and uninspiring.

read this book a lon time ago,it was a good read though the hated the fact the hero does'nt trusts heroin almost the till the end thinks she has tricked his grandfather to marry him(it was a proxy marriage)

Heroin had her resons to marry by proxy since she does'nt wants a hubby and agrees to the deal cause she is kind of bonded with grandfather and she loves him and town ppl

It was a nice story my only problem was heroes mistrust towards heroin even after he sees for himself she is good woman

I always enjoy this author's books but this was a twist even I didn't see coming. The hero was married to heroine of the story and didn't even know it....what can you say...different.
