Life has not gone back to normal for mankind or Caretaker Sahara Malcolm in the wake of her husband Doc Alex’s death. 760 million more humans have died from Lucifer’s L1 virus, the world is in turmoil, Maxiel is in danger, and if an enigmatic Prophecy from God comes to pass, Lucifer believes he will take control of Heaven, Hell and Earth. God has other plans; it’s just that no one knows what they are. And to implement them, He will have to send Sahara into Hell, armed with nothing but her dubious faith and His Word that she is a part of His plan to save Maxiel, mankind and the three worlds from destruction. The détente between Heaven and Hell is over and a new war has begun. The only question is, whose side of the war will Sahara be helping, and whose version of the Prophecy will she fulfill? She knows what side she’s chosen, and she has always believed that good will vanquish evil in the end. But it begs the if Light is eternal and love never dies, are the Dark and evil eternal too? Only God knows for certain how His Prophecy will The Fall will be done when three become one; when an angel rules in Hell, and in Heaven demons dwell.
I've always wondered where to start an author's biography. In truth I have been writing my entire life.
I’ll start with my professional writing career, which began at the age of twenty-four when literary agents Donald MacCampbell and his partner Maureen Moran found a home for my first romance novel and the next five.
Beloved Pirate - written under pen name Margie Michaels - (Second Chance at Love) Jove Publications 1981
Mirage - written under pen name Margie Michaels - (Second Chance at Love) Jove Publications 1982
Untamed Desire - written under pen name Margie Michaels - (Harlequin Temptation) Harlequin 1984
The Land of Enchantment - Margie McDonnell (Loveswept) Bantam Books 1988
The romance writing lasted a decade and it was an amazing time in my life. But as they say, life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans. Life happened, my plans were disrupted, and I left romance behind.
I spent the next two decades taking care of my four children (AKA my beloved demon spawn, the inspiration for the DEMON series), and my writing projects consisted of Star Trek fan fiction and fundraising stories for The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. Star Trek writing was fun. Writing for the foundation was rewarding. Eventually though I came back to my first love, novels, and though I’d outgrown light romance, urban fantasy and its dark secrets called to me.
With the help of my second husband and soulmate, I began to work toward that dream. A covid-19 diagnosis, and subsequent lockdowns, gave me lots of time and inspiration to work, resulting in the three urban fantasy novels in my new DEMON series:
DEMON SPAWN (Available on Amazon December 2020)
DEMON LORD (Available on Amazon December 2020)
A PLAGUE OF DEMONS (Available on Amazon January 2021)
DEMON FIRE (Available on Amazon in Fall 2021)
With any luck, our real plague will be over soon, but my demons, angels, Fallen angels, scrabblies, Nephilim and the humans populating my DEMONVERSE will still have stories to tell. I shall be happy to share their adventures with you.
In the meantime, if you'd care to learn more, please visit the DEMONVERSE facebook page and either of my two websites at:
Demonfire is the fourth book in the Demonverse series by Margie McDonnel Welsh. Having enjoyed the first three I was looking forward to number four and I was certainly not disappointed.
The main character, Sahara, is a Nephilim, part human part angel, and in this volume she has the courage to boldly go where no man has gone before, walking into Hell itself in an effort to save her demon lover.
I have read Dante's Inferno, and it's a classic, but as a modern reader I enjoyed this more. The book takes on a powerful momentum as Sahara and her allies struggle outwit the demon legions - led by the evil one himself.
By the time I reached the middle of the story I found myself reflecting that this was a book with a very wide audience. With its balanced blend of conflict and romance it should appeal fairly equally to both men and women, but more than that, I would suggest that it would strike a good note with a broad range of readers. It seems to me that all sorts of people including light hearted lovers, amateur philosophers, sincere Christians and fantasy gamers could equally find themselves caught up in the battle between good an evil.
The latter part of the book moves on from politics and arguments to passionate romance and action packed battle scenes, being played out on a massive scale across the planes of existence, with Heaven, Hell, and our own planet Earth all hanging in the balance.
This series has got better and better as it went along and I truly enjoyed both the "Battle Royale" and the romantic twists.
This was one wild, wild ride. While I wasn't a super fan of the battle scenes, overall, a really good read. The overall story is wonderful; Margie McDonnell Welsh writes a mean tale. I'm very interested in how the final book is going to play...
This is coming from a reader who's not particularly a fan of the Judeo-Christian construct, especially as espoused by the evangelistic crowd, and whose current favorite genre is gay romance, so this is saying something, coming from my judgy self.
Hard to rate as this is the middle of the story arc
In Demon Fire we find the long awaited epic battle between good and evil raging across the Plains of Hell with the neutral forces providing medical care and sustenance. The first three books of the series have paved the way for this and it is time for The Prophecy to be fulfilled. There was a lot going on here and I'm feeling like I might need to re-read this one just to make sure I've followed all the threads. I'm not sure it's the author's fault, as I do have difficulty following the multiple threads of the converging storyline and keeping the multitude of characters straight. This is not an uncommon issue for me when the cast of characters gets large. I see the possibilities for an epic movie where do much can be transmitted visually where with words alone it is more difficult. -- I loved the parts about how Sahara ends up essentially married to both Doc Alex and Maxiel and the big reveal about how all that happened and then we also get to learn about the big secrets Sahara has been harboring. I'm hoping the next and final book will tie together some loose ends this book created. Continuing to love the sense of humor and the pop culture references that pepper the entire series.
If you are looking for an exciting and imaginative book series to read, this is a fantastic choice. I loved the characters and story line. I can't wait for the next book.
Wow! What a great book, the story line was amazing the characters you could almost feel you knew them. The author writes with so much passion you have no choice but to believe.
Faith Tested in the Flames of Hell After losing Alex, Sahara refuses to lose Maxiel too—and this time, the battle is against Lucifer himself in the heart of Hell. By page 50, the war is on, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. The Gardener (aka God) won’t promise his granddaughter (Sahara!) victory, only Faith—and that single word carries the whole book. Lucifer has become a terrifying antagonist, powerful enough to stand against God, and Margie McDonnell Welsh makes you feel every twist of that war. Some moments are hard to stomach (yes, Sahara becoming Lucifer’s desire gave me chills), but the payoff is incredible. For those of us who’ve been rooting for Maxiel (guilty!), he’s back—more romantic than ever. One line from Lucifer made me laugh out loud in the middle of battle: “Tell me you didn’t tear Hell apart just to f** Helen of Troy 2.0.”* Honestly? Pure gold. This book is dark, intense, and unforgettable. A must-read. PS: Turns out the dark web has a physical address. In Hell. Figures.
Omg if I were Lucifer I would have rebelled too you jerk!! Omg why can I relate so much to the villain of the story. I feel like the whole thing between Lucifer and the gardener is me and my own dad. I was never good enough. I was not his perfect Christian boy. I didn't worship the ground he walked on and to top it off... I didn't fall in love with who my dad wanted me to fall in love with. I could almost hear my own dad call me a snake in the garden. However, for as much as this is pecking at my trauma I can't stop reading it. I'm invested.
Is this book good? If not, my eyes are leaking for some other reason! As a Born Again Christian, there are quite a few things I cannot agree with, however I also realize this is a work of fiction & as such I have no problems reading it! The characters are well written. The story moves well between scenarios. This book helps to explain pieces of the 1st 3 books by tying up a few loose threads. I can hardly wait to begin Book 5!
Wow. With the sadness that ended book three, book four gives us hope. Slate and Nahil are great characters in this book, and the Gardeners next check mate to Lucifer is amazing. The Caretaker now needs to take on the next stage of her life. There is much more to do with the family now ....
I have just finished Book 4 in Welsh's Demonverse, Demon Fire. The description of the places and the vividness of the characters pulled me swiftly through the first four books. In reading about the author I learned that she started writing them while she was sickened by the COVID Virus. I spent a similar time fighting my own battle against it. Her characters, human almost human and not anything like humans are interesting and unusual. My favorite is Slate. Someone or something for everyone. I hope that you too will want to meet them. From Texas to Hell and back?
Perfection! What more can I say? I binge read this book in just a few days. Wow, just wow. Ms. Welsh has done it again. I loved the FMC's sense of humor as she faced each dire situation that arose. I cheered for her strength, her heart, and her determination as she stayed the course on faith alone. The story flew off the pages and played like a movie in my head. I was swept away.
Just when I thought it couldn't get better, OMG! did it ever! This series has kept me enthralled right from the get go, and once again, Margie did not disappoint.
