The discovery of a strange new power leads Sam to buried truths.
Now that Rasan Tel has escaped, Sam works with others within the Academy to make preparations for the coming war. Increasing attacks on the outskirts of Olway raise the urgency to learn when and where the next attack will come, but Sam is caught between fighting the war and his new responsibilities to the Academy.
A dangerous new form of magic leads Sam and Tara toward a discovery that will shake the foundation of what they believed about the war—and about how to stop it. If they fail to learn the truth in time, more than Olway will suffer an impossible fate.
This story series really deserved to be expanded, A lot. The pacing is unnecessarily quick. The world-building is great, but begs to be explored. I have a hard time understanding why so much needed to be done in less than two years in story time. The school aspect really deserved to be developed further. Relationships are just hinted at. What is presented is very good, I only wish that there were much more of it.
As a reader it is painful to have a small plot stretched too thin and put out as a huge series. This one goes a bit too far in the other direction. With different pacing and more development, I would have been happy to buy twelve books that covered the same plot but with more description. The title characters' sister has a story that was worth telling.
Fun and worth reading, I am following this author.
Overall, I did enjoy the storyline of this series. The timeline seemed a bit short for how much happened, but considering how quickly Sam was able to learn stuff, I guess it kind of works. I was happy to see Sam and Mia finally reconnect, and Sam finally letting James help a little. The climax was interesting, but a bit rushed. As the battle the series was building toward, it definitely could have been built up a bit more. I enjoyed Sam and Tara working together to find solutions to quite a few problems, and how their powers grew together as they worked. Overall it was a fun read.
This book was a great addition to the series and was an absolute joy to read. It progressed the plot in unexpected ways and answered questions that were left open in the previous books. However, at the time of this review, it does have a fair few writing errors. They are mostly in the form of missing words, but there are also words with missing letters.
This book is amazing and, if the errors are fixed, deserves a 5 star rating.
The author finally realize that he's not going to come up with anymore original ideas, the story is dragging, it's time for an abrupt end. Sam became a teacher to flaunt his dong one last time. They pulled a faceless invisible foe our of their *** blamed everything onto them, and everybody lived happily ever after. The sense that it was trying to make must have flown out the window.
I like this author, have been reading her stuff for a while now, and they're always fun, fast-paced, and with a good plot. The writing style is really good if you're looking for a fast adventure/ fantasy type of series.
Well developed characters and storyline. My only complaint is some of Holmberg's influence in the writing. He has a in tendency to be repetitive. He can't just describe something once, he uses the same wording to say it over and over again.
I don't know why I kept reading; the writing goes from mediocre to dreadful, and there is no editing all by the end. I wanted to know how it ended, and I'm there to say the walk wasn't worth it. Don't pay for any of these books, and don't waste your time.
Last book of an excellent series. I will miss Sam, Tara, Mia and the others. Feels like there could be a second series of books based in this world should the author choose to go there. I would be quite pleased if he did.
Could have been told better but overall a fairly good story. The author could have summarized some detail and deepened the mystery instead of dragging the story out into 6 books. Still pretty good though.
The series as a whole is really well thought out. Plenty of intrigue and challenges, but someone needs to point out & correct the inconsistencies that leave the reader confused at times.
There are a ton of typos but the backstory was pretty solid. Though I would think that a father would be training his children pretty early. The flow and the path of the story I found very well done. I would read more from this pair
I’ve read the series and can say it kept me reading into very late into the night. When I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longe I’d pick it up the next morning.
This is a well written and has well developed/loveable characters. Very well told story and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
Satisfying, some interesting twists. Felt like something was missing; some things were noticed in passing and not followed up, like those with access to both powers.
