Exile, a death sentence among the clans of the Aeyrn. But Saerig is not so easily cowed, surviving cold, hunger, and the predators that stalk the dark boughs of the Gloomweald. Yet, mere survival is not enough. Plagued by prophetic visions and the pull of an unseen hand, he presses on for the answers promised upon the horizon. All the while, he follows in the footsteps of one who came long before him, the god of death and dreams. For he walks the Wanderer’s Path.
But nothing can prepare him for what awaits at his Path’s end. A secret lost to the seasons. And the ancient, forgotten evil that would take it from him.
As an avid Tolkien and fantasy fan, I was immediately drawn in by the thorough and immediate immersion into a fully developed world. From the first page, I fully trusted the author to take me on an incredibly imaginative and provocative journey. This was immediately due to his rich, evocative word choice, sentence structure, and pacing; my brain and imagination gushed over his delicious way of painting scenes and crafting connections with other characters. Sometimes, reading a good book is like getting so lost in the story that you forget you are holding a book—this is that book. I fell in love with the characters, Saerig, Ailish, and Wren, and I could not put the book down! I finished this book in less than 48 hours, because I had to know what happened next. I don’t want to give anything away, but this story pulled at the deep heartstrings of longing we all experience—in feeling misunderstood and alone, and craving connection and purpose. This is truly a story with heart and soul, and I am grateful to have read something so sincerely authentic and genuine in this day and age.
Wanderer's Path was an amazing experience from the mind of Erik Telfer. The way he describes this world in great detail really gives you an accurate picture of what it's like to be in this universe. Characters start a certain way and towards the end they really begin to come into their own. I shed a few manly tears during certain portions of the book and I'm not ashamed to admit that. I'm very curious with what direction he decides to take this series in the next book
For a dark fantasy taking the reader through the struggles of a well-developed character in murky forests, against ferocious beasts, and malicious people, this is a super read. It’s a raw life of survival and conquest.
Well worth the time to read, but not one to read before bed.
