Throughout the Second World War, as alliances were made and broken between countries, millions of families were caught in the fallout. This is the story of the Zeglinski family, captured and displaced from their Polish home to prison in Siberia, as told through the eyes of a small boy. Shifting with the winds of the war, they are shuttled from country to country as unwanted cargo. Homeless, starved, and tested time and again, they discover an aptitude for survival. As refugees, they come to know the intense cold of Siberia, the bright heat of Africa, the soft greys of England, and the opportunities of Canada. This is their journey from exile to excellence.
