Life and death … they have a way of tainting fairy tales in the ugliest way.
You know the sugary-sweet romances where the new girl moves to a small town, falls in love with the most popular guy in school, and they live happily ever after?
I wish my story were that simple.
Levi Hollingsworth is the most popular guy in school. He’s stoic, mysterious, and aloof. A man among boys. He claims attention wherever he goes, whether he wants it or not. And he doesn’t want it.
The broody grump wants nothing to do with anyone. Especially me—the new girl who’s failing chemistry.
And Levi is my new tutor.
Little does he know, my grades are the least of my problems. Being forced to move to Virginia has everything to do with dirty politics, sex scandals, and cold cases.
I already thought my life was complicated when I landed in the commonwealth and was forced to live with my horrid grandmother.
But when the guy wants the girl, he’ll do everything to make her his.

Clarification to the person offended by my butt stuff remark: I didn’t say teenagers irl were not doing butt stuff, I implied that I, personally, do not find it enjoyable to read about that considering my big age. Hence why I said it was cringe but NEVER said it was unrealistic. Reading comprehension is a skill that I implore you to develop as a reader yourself. ✌️
This book is marketed as NA but read more like a YA, to be completely honest. Except for the sex near the end, this wasn’t a very mature read. There was a kind of disconnect the whole story between the content, the age of the characters and the maturity of the hero Levi. He read like every other BA hero; confident, badass, secure and alpha. At 6’3” and 200 lbs, he was unlike any 18 year old guy I’ve ever heard of. It just didn’t fit. The FMC Carissa was insecure, young and going through a lot with her family and Levi was together and had his whole life figured out. I’ve said this in previous reviews of this author; BA doesn’t balance her lead characters well, the women are always lacking next to the men. The story itself was very Stranger Things meets Scooby-Doo, without the paranormal element. It was a group of zany high school misfits working together to take down bad guys. I really felt too old to be reading this one half the time, yet when the two mains started having sex it became very adult. The sex was decidedly steamy and involved spanking and anal play….like what? I dunno, it was all over the place. I did enjoy most of the intrigue plot, but it kind of dragged at the 70% mark, however I was there for the glimpses of Asa (my fave DILF and BBF) and the OG Killers crew. The book’s timeline was parallel with Asa’s book ‘Gifts’ so it would be a good idea to read that one as the parts of that story were alluded to but not expanded on, so a reader might be a bit lost going in this as a stand alone. Anyway, a decent read with all the Brynne Asher alpha hero goodness but just expect this to be VERY New Adult and not have the same complexity and action as the Killers series.
There is nothing I love more than a hero who knows what he wants and doesn't hesitate to make a move. No fear, no playing games. Just intensity, protectiveness and the word mine. I loved it!
Asa, Levi's father and from the book Gifts, has been one of my absolute favorites. Levi had some big shoes to fill and I think he did it with ease.
Everything I loved about Levi in Gifts followed through into his own book. I'm so thankful that the author wanted to give him his own story. Just getting glimpses of his intense, high school romance in his dad's book just wasn't enough. I wanted more and this book didn't disappoint.
Is it wrong of me to want more from this group of young adults? I would love to get Cades book...and Emma's. Saylor's would be a riot. I should stop here before I list every side character in all the books.
Levi knowing what he wanted even at 18 stole my heart. Carissa recognizing what Levi meant to her and taking a risk is everything.
These two young people were smart, hilarious, brave and just really good humans. I gobbled up this book in a day and now I want to go back immediately and read it again.
It was an unlikely cast of characters with Levi, Carissa, Cade, Mason and Jack but they wormed their way into my heart and I’m not letting them go. The Homies are this generations Breakfast Club and I AM HERE FOR IT!!!
Toss in appearances from the characters in the Killers series and you will have every BA super fan screaming hallelujah!!
This is good. High school drama with some suspense and a group of teenagers investigating shady stuff. I loved the appearance of the characters in the killer series, the found family, friendships, and the romance. Though this has the insta-something trope, I still enjoyed the tension and chemistry between Levi and Carissa. I loved that they're open and equally obsessed with each other. And the fact that they always want to work things out as a team rather than apart.
I loved the father-son relationship between Asa and Levi, but maybe I'm being biased because I looove Asa too. 😂 I had fun reading about the twin bond between Carissa and Cade and how they eventually grew to love their grandma Louise. It was also comical reading the interactions between Team Homie and their unexpected friendship.
Overall, this was really good, and though it was long, I still enjoyed reading everything that happened here. But most of all, I do love the epilogue and seeing a glimpse of their lives years later.
Book info: - Highschool romance - Suspense - Mention of murder, cheating, government official corruption - Physical assault - Forced proximity - Insta-love - No cheating, omd, breakup - Owd (not encouraged, H's ex caused a bit of drama, but he handled her) - Virgin h, experienced H (celibate 2 years) - HEA (years later, married with children)

that cover is an abomination. but this 6’3” and 200 lbs hunk of a man-boy could run me over with his truck and i’d say thank you 😍
just kidding. im over my fictional high school boys obsession era, and i’d pick Levis dad over him any day of the week. 💅
im at that age where i no longer find high school/college romance appealing, so i was apprehensive about this book. although Levi was too mature for his age and giving this book the same level of action & craziness that the authors adult books have made it hard for me to buy into the story, i also couldnt deny that i had a blast reading this book.
i think The Homies and their friendship dynamic was what made this book believable as high school appropriate. i loved how this story overlapped with Asas (Gifts) and the cameos of characters from the Killers series was a true fanservice. this was not bad, but i hope this is the last of it and Brynne Asher sticks to writing about the big boys. 🙃
I’m a pretty big fan of Brynne Asher having read nearly every book she’s written. Her plots/characters can be a bit formulaic, but I’m into the OTT, possessive H’s and the instalove so any new release is an automatic download for me. However, I don’t think she’s ever written about teenagers before and it didn’t totally work for me. All the crazy intensity she packs in for adult characters translated to too much for teens IMO. Maybe I’m just getting too old to love reading about teens in the same way I used to 🤷🏼♀️. That said I love a good teen PNR romance every once in a while whether that’s an academy situation or shifters or what and I feel like the unreality of PNR lends itself to more believable crazy teen plots whereas for contemporary romance these teens were just doing way too much. The melodrama of it all from the very beginning was just overwhelming and I thought the intensity of the instalove was too much for these literal babies, but that could just be me. I still somewhat enjoyed the book and it kept me turning pages which is why it got three stars. I actually thought it was about to be over around the 80% mark it seemed like we were entering epilogue territory, but then there was the whole political drama with her parents to wrap up and BOY did that go in an absolutely insane direction (I was gonna give it 3.5 stars before all that craziness lol). I didn’t need all that for this high school romance, but it is Brynne Asher and this is a spin-off from a government assassin series so I should’ve expected it I guess haha. Overall, this was alright, but not as good as I wanted it to be.
Levi by Brynne Asher is a slow burn new adult romance with explosive twists, heartaching feels and electrifying chemistry. Levi is so intense and swoony. He is definitely great book boyfriend material with his brooding, possessive and alpha personality. Carissa was an adorable yet fierce heroine. The story has the edge of suspense that will keep you glued to the page.
Daughter of Senator Collins, Clarissa Collins has been shipped with her twin brother Cade to their grandmother after their father gets into a big scandal. She is having a hard time adjusting with everything. A cold grandmother. Her brainiac but socially different brother's needs. Worry for their mother. So her grades are suffering. School's golden boy Levi Hollingsworth is assigned as her Chemistry tutor. But Levi soon gets more fascinated with her. Her life is complex but Levi won't stop at fear. After all, his father used to be one of the secret assassin of the government.
This story is the slowest of slow burn. Levi and Carissa's relationship is built painfully slowly but it was so explosive at the same time. Levi is pretty intense and larger than his soon to be graduating self. He has this cool and calm confidence and solid smartness that is just so relaxing and sexy at the same time. He is so focused on making Carissa happy and safe. Even it means taking risks and jeopardizing his bright future of scholarship and medical school. Carissa was definitely overwhlemed with everything in her life. The scandal. Her good for nothing parents. The pressure. She was feeling suffocated and torn and alone till Levi entered her life and started sharing her burden effortlessly. She is sweet but when it comes to protecting people she loves..she is a real fighter. This story has a big group of colourful secondary characters and I loved them all. Cade, Jack, Mason, Emma..I so need all of their story! It won't be a Brynne Asher story if there wasn’t an element of suspense and action. Levi proved to be quiet a bada## there too! He is obsessed with Carissa and Carissa is deep in with him. Ahh the beauty of young love! But they were pretty mature than their age. Once they knew they want and need each other, they fought savagely and constantly to stay with each other. And that was a thing of beauty.
Levi introduces us to a new cast of characters from Brynne Asher, with a few former familiar faces making appearances as well. I have to say these characters actually made a pretty surprising group of friends; the popular smart jock and his class-clown bestie, the loner new girl, and her newbie hacker brother. They might have been unlikely friends but I actually loved seeing their interactions. Their banter had me smiling so much and I loved how it made the book feel really light and fun.
As for our main characters, Levi and Carissa, I couldn't get enough of them. Levi was so swoon worthy with every interaction he and Carissa had. I really enjoyed seeing how his and Carissa's relationship progressed from him pursuing her as she was a little standoffish, to them being almost inseparable.
Overall, this was a fun read and one I definitely recommend. The story does run parallel to Asa and Keelie's story from Gifts but I do think it can be read as a standalone.
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
Levi by Brynne Asher was a suspenseful, new adult romance that I didn’t know I needed in m life! Seriously, if Brynne writes it, I’m going to read it. When I found out she was writing about Levi who is one of my beloved Killers Asa’s son, I was instantly intrigued. Levi is one swoony, motivated, and driven hero on a mission to finish high school at the top of his class, attend John Hopkins University, play lacrosse, and eventually enroll in medical school. Talk about goals, right?! When he is granted the opportunity to tutor Carissa Collins, a new mysterious blonde-haired junior, he is immediately amused. Carissa isn’t like most girls and is devoted to her twin brother Cade, and has ambitions of her own as well, but she is a bit distracted. As Levi and Carissa spend more time together their attraction only grows deeper and more intimate both learning secrets from their past (and improving her chemistry grade) that make their futures with each other only burn brighter. I loved the connection and passion these two shared, along with some pretty kick-ass homies that prove any social circle in high school can be friends. Plus, that epic on-the-edge-of-your-seat climax where homies and Killers unite made my heart soar and cheer!
Overall, I LOVED this book! If you are a fan of a new adult romance with a hot stoic intelligent hero, a brave passionate heroine, chemistry tutor sessions, suspense, scandal, corrupt politicians, high school drama, computer hacking, first love steamy times, a loyal group of homies, lacrosse, a caring grandma, catching up with some Killers, discovering your passions, digging up the past, uncovering secrets, and a HEA that will bond with your heart, then you will love Levi and Carissa’s story. Plus, that epilogue made me tear up and left me feeling deliciously happy! I always look forward to from Brynne Asher!
Just when you think it couldn’t possibly happen, Brynne Asher strikes gold…yet again. This time though, it’s not with her incredible cast of Killers. Well—that’s not entirely true. But this is the next generation (like Star Trek, only sooooo much better and a heck of a lot sexier).
Levi and Clarissa’s book is an EPIC love story, filled with a secondary cast of characters that will have you literally laughing out loud. This couple may be young, but they’ve both been through and seen so much in their short lifetimes, they had no choice but to mature quickly.
I’ve been waiting for quite a few years to get a glimpse into this couple and I was anything but disappointed. I devoured it and contemplated calling out of work so I didn’t have to put it down. I’ll be waiting on pins and needles for the rest of the “Homies” books!!
If you thought Asa was intense, prepare yourself. Levi is every bit his father’s son…and far more certain about what he wants in life. Or who. He may be young. He may be throwing his future away. He may get in a whole lot of trouble with Daddy Hollingsworth. Or he may be making some of the smartest moves people decades his senior didn’t figure out until making the dumb ones first. It could go either way….
Carissa and Cade brought exactly what Levi needed to get him out of his broody rut. And if they weren’t enough, we get danger, mysteries, some light and super fun hacking, chicken talk, a Love Machine I’m tempted to threaten my kids with buying, and Jack. As the Homies (thank you, Jack) find themselves deeper in intrigue and closer to adulthood-for-most, everything heats up. Love. Lust. Anger. Horribly buried secrets. And friendships for life are formed.
In addition to all of this, Crew and Grady get the distinct pleasure of telling Asa just what went down during his honeymoon. And you’ll be just as amused to find which side they’re on when it all comes out as I was. So get ready for some teenage angst turned into adult love, some time with familiar favorites, and a few new faces I would love to see more of in the future! And the epilogue? You may want some tissues. That is all.
While this story is absolutely a stand alone and can be enjoyed as such, I highly recommend reading Gifts first. Gifts is the story of Levi's dad, Asa, finding his own HEA. The Killers series is a top favorite of mine. 😁
Now, on to this story! It's full of humor and intrigue, friendship and family, choices and above all love. Carissa & Levi have an instant connection that builds quite steadily throughout their story. The love & support they give each other as life gets a bit intense is so well written, too!
I also love the supporting characters - the Homies, Cade, Mason, Jack - as they give the story a large dose of humor and even more intrigue. There's also Louise, who we come to love so very much! And the mysteries that unfold... whew!
There's so much I want to say, but anything more feels spoilery and I'd much rather you discover it all yourselves. Definitely, definitely discover this story and these characters. Fall in love!!
So, this is Killers -The Next generation...I really didn't know what to expect here, LOL but I went in cause I liked the Killers series and I was intrigued...
In short, it reminded me of the Tijan's Fallen Crest series with all the "grown-up" mess and issues the New Adults deal with...at times it was too serious and at times these are still kids, sure they are barely legal, but still, I never know how to put myself in there, you know...it was a long time I've been a kid myself and sometimes the memory lane is not worth the path...and it all seems silly to me...*shrugs*
BUT Ms Asher writes well (thus me loving the Killers series in the first place), sure, you have a hot hunk in Levi (Asa's son for the book Gifts) and his young, strong, INSTA love for Carrisa Collins (a dirty politician's daughter, and as you can guess, that's where the mess comes from, *wink*)
ah, well...I'm sure this series will find its faithful audience...
A cross between Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller with way better romance!!
It's pretty well known I don't read much NA Romance, but that didn't stop me from cracking open Brynne Asher's brand new Next Generation follow up to her Killers series Levi, and I'm SO glad I gave it a chance!!
Levie is Asa Hollingsworth's son from Brynne's Killer's Book Hifts, and it a gorgeous reunification of the characters that starts before Gifts, continues during, and follows after, and I loved getting to see it from Levi and Carissa Collins point of view.
Levi is the epitome of his father - broody, handsome, and it seems far too serious for a high school senior with the whole world in the palm of his hand. But Levi has reasons for the way he is, and the book does a really good deep dive to show what we hadn't seen before (so if you haven't read GIFTS yet, you're ok starting at Levi!) When he gets stuck with his new tutoring student, and she suggest some things that are not within the guidelines he's ready to throw the whole study period out, except he still needs the hours for his volunteer time!
Carissa Collins is new to the Commonwealth, and definitely doesnt want to be there. She's just shy of failing several classes when back in Arizona she was getting ready to graduate a semester early. The last thing she wants, or NEEDS, is a chemistry tutor when she has to be at her brothers back for everything. After all, no one else is helping Cade and if she's not helping take care of him her crazy grandmother definitely won't do things right!
When Carissa finds out Levi is her new tutor all she can think about is the embarrassment of him, or anyone else in school, knowing she's failing - and what color his eyes might really be. After all the grumpy upper classman just sort of floats through the hallways as though he's untouchable, and maybe invisible.
When Carissa and Cade start really trying to find out where their mother has disappeared to, and why no one will tell them, Levi has already found himself way more interested in Carissa than he should be. He has a plan, stick to the plan - grades, lacrosse, graduate, get the eff out! But by then it's not just Levi anymore.
The Homies - Jack, Mason, Cade, Carissa - and when he's not ignoring everyone except Carissa - Levi, are hilarious!!
"He shakes his head. “If I skip class, they’ll call my dad, my mom, every emergency contact on the list, and probably my dog—if I had one. I’m not stupid. I’ll get Jack to call in to excuse me. He’s basically a professional.”
There are so many situations they find themselves in that most teens would bobble, but Levi always has a calm and competent answer. And if he doesn't Cade is hot on his heels with a computer to break into, it's a rollicking good time!
The elements of romantic suspense were enough to keep me breathing hard, and making sure I didn't miss a single word from Ch 28 on! Between the Hollingsworths and the Collins family there's enough drama to warrant their own Oscar, and some of it is downright scary. I was so glad things with the grandmother turned the right way, because Carissa and Cade absolutely had to have someone besides The Homies and The Killers in their corner!!
Five out of Five stars for Levi!! Brynne Asher's love for Carissa and Levi comes storming across the page, and this book is so much fun it's easy to forget that I don't always love NA Romance and this is one everyone will definitely enjoy!!
I wanted to love this becauseGifts has one of my favourite BBF of all time (Asa 😍; He's ALL mine. Keep your filthy hands off him...). And Asa is Levi's dad. I didn't know what to expect from this given how Gifts finished up. Because we know what happens with Levi and Carissa. So, I wondered, did she die? Did they break up? What on earth happened?
But no. The story runs parallel to Gifts so we have a degree of overlap and a whole lot more detail on how these two end up together. In high school. Yeah. Not my bag at all. But I love Brynne Asher so I ploughed in.
It wasn't terrible. The writing is solid, there's the usual BA trademarks of overprotective alpha MMC (though he's a baby alpha really), some drama with family, a mystery and an arsehole family. And a great family. However, as Kristina so aptly noted in her review, it smacks of the Scooby gang and for me that got just a bit OTT.
So I liked it, but I didn't love it. And that's likely just because I am really over reading high school and if it wasn't Brynne Asher and Levi, I wouldn't have bothered at all.
Now and then I love a good YA high school romance with a fabulous mini alpha in the making.
Had tons of fun with this one!!
But you should read Gifts, it's his dad's story. And it shows where Levi gets his Alpha tendencies from ♡. Both stories happen approximately at the same time. Which makes back to back reading a great reading experience.
Levi and Carissa! So excited to pick this one up! We first meet our young couple in Gifts and I gotta say one of my favorite parts of this book was the parallel timeline with Gifts ( makes me wanna go back and reread Asa and Keely's romantic journey). Although this book can certainly stand on its own, I loved the glimpses of our Killers from previous books. Levi and Carissa's journey is a bumpy one for sure. Carissa's challenges stem from family problems she has little control over yet affect her life in permanent ways. Levi is the kind of guy we all wish we had met in school. Smart, kind, emotionally mature beyond his years...and did I mention smoking hot? As secondary characters, Jack and Mason provide some laugh-out-loud comic relief and can't wait to see more of our "Homies" in future installments. But of course the best part is the extraordinary, sometimes dangerous journey for Levi and Carissa which climaxes with messages of home, found family, and second chances. Another winner for Ms. Asher and I will definitely be reading more.
I'm in love with Levi Hollingsworth! I just wish I was 30 yrs younger. I don't normally read high school or college romances, but this, was brilliant, i loved it!
This author is absolutely my favorite and she brings us another amazing book!
We first met Levi and Carissa is Gifts and I couldn't wait for more of their story. If you haven't read Gifts maybe give that a shot first but you do not need to read it to enjoy Levi.
Carissa and her brother Cade have their life turned completely upside down because of their parents and are sent to live with their grandmother. While struggling at school she meets Levi who is her tutor and he intimidates her at first. When Levi meets her for the first time he is immediately intrigued and that hasn't happened to him in a long time. After some school drama they form an unlikely cast of characters at their lunch table...the Homies and let me say they are so funny.
There is a lot of drama from Carissa's parents and she proves her dedication to her brother. Levi proves that there really isn't much he won't do for someone he loves. He is just as swoon worthy as his dad. Watching their love blossom was amazing.
i hope we get more of the Homies and Emma in rhe future.
YES! LEVI is finally here (or as I call him, Asa JR) and I couldn't be more excited! Let's just preface this by saying I am a huge fan of Brynne Asher's work and have loved every book so far. While LEVI is slightly different (due to being set during his time as a Senior in High School) I still loved it just as much. There was still drama, suspense, romance and loveable secondary characters.
Levi and Carissa meet and have an attraction right away. Carissa is new, quiet and trying to remain unnoticed. Levi is popular, intense and hates the attention. These two come together at the worst time in their lives but it is so beautiful to see their relationship develop. And while this book can be read as a standalone it is perfect to read after Gifts. Because once you read about Levi, you are going to want to know what Daddy Asa is like.
This was a really sweet read but also had some mystery elements. Levi felt like a mature character for being 18. Carissa acted a little more her age (17 then 18) but I still enjoyed her character. I don’t normally read high school romances because I don’t find them believable but I loved this one!
Levi was perfect though! He was alpha but also such a cinnamon roll. I really enjoyed reading about Levi and Carissa’s romance. Also the side characters - Jack was hilarious!! He had a great relationship with Levi and I loved Jack’s romance novel references. Also is there a potential romance for Jack and Emma??? I’m here for it.
Steam: 🌶🌶🌶 medium burn Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The storyline didn’t drag and there was action/drama. The story is told parallel to Asa and Keelie’s romance from Gifts. Angst: 🥺🥺 low angst Trope: high school romance, felt more insta-love
Like father, like son as they say! Levi, Levi, Levi, where the heck were boys like this when I was at school?
Levi was everything I hoped he’d be, everything I loved in Gifts and so much more! A badass in training, Levi has brooding, obsessive, hot guy down to an art.
The biggest surprise for me was Carissa, a sweetheart which we saw in Gifts, but she has a whole family situation we knew nothing about! She’s a complete contradiction sweet but feisty, hates confrontation but fights for those she loves and she’s a grade a student that’s failing chemistry.
This pair are so perfect for each other, they give the OG Killers a run for their money, and don’t even get me started on Jack, Cade and Mason, I think there might be riots if they don’t get their own stories!
Family drama, kidnappings, mean girls, high school showdowns, homies and young love. I haven’t read an NA romance that I’ve loved just as much as any adult romance until Levi Hollingsworth
This story is absolutely amazing. Once again Brynne has published another automatic re-read for me. Her stories are complex, emotional, action packed, real, sexy, and a great escape from this world. I fell in love with Levi the first time we met him in his dads story. But having his side of the story made me fall even more in love with him. He is everything you want in your book hero’s. He’s smart, sexy, protective, charming, brave, and loyal. His respect and love he has for his dad was so refreshing. Carissa has a beautiful soul. I loved her and her love and protectiveness she has for her brother and those she loves. Levi could not have picked a better love than his Carissa. Their chemistry from the beginning is off the charts. Even at their young age, these characters know what they want. I loved that this side of the story introduced us to new characters like Jack and Cade and I loved getting to revisit Asa and Keelie and the rest of the gang. Go grab this story and every single other one Brynne has!! You won’t regret it!!!
When I open a book by Ms. Asher, I know there are a few things I am going to get:
1) a story full of some amazing characters; 2) a strong, independent woman who will not let anyone or anything stand in her way; 3) an equally strong, ALPHA man who knows what he wants and goes after her; 4) an unputdownable book that keeps me wanting more (so I keep turning the page) and; 5) an epic love story that will leave me wanting more.
Levi did all of that and more my fellow reader. Levi is just as strong and ALPHA as his father (which ummm…hello, ASA!!!!). He needed a woman who was going to challenge him at every turn; well, my friend, let me introduce you to Carissa. She came into Levi’s life and boy oh boy, Levi didn’t know what he was in for!
When I turned the last page, I had this feeling that I had just “come home” and spent time with old friends. That to me, dear reader, is what makes an amazing author.
Oh my gosh! All the feels for this book. I have been a part of Brynne Asher's Beauty Group on Facebook for a while, and as she was coming on the end of writing this book or as she finished. I remember her saying "this is the book you didn't know you needed" she was Spot. Freaking. On! This book was so good. So well written, Brynne is so talented, this book gives you the fun one liners, the side characters that you adore and hope ,as in crossing your fingers and cross your toes hoping, they get a story, It has the suspense, the slow burn love story that makes you melt on the spot. Levi and Carissa are so sweet together. Levi is just like his dad! All the mushy gooey feels 🫠. Carissa ugh this girl! She is a freaking bad ass as all of her female characters are!
WOW! WOW! WOW! What an epic love story! The power of young love, that is absolutely certain of where it’s heading. If you’ve thought Asa was intense, wait till you meet Levi - at 18 he is determined, focused and clear on what his priorities are, that is, until meeting Carissa. He never saw her coming and taking the #1 spot on his priorities list. I absolutely adored the entire cast of characters - Levi’s best friend Jack and his pop culture references has me in stitches, young Mason and his chickens were too Cute, and Cade - the determination and intensity, combined with vulnerability - such a complex young man.
Jack spears us each with a friendly smile. “If this isn’t The Breakfast Club remake, then pinch me and make me a priest.”
While navigating through the drama of high school, our young protagonists have the added “adventure” of dealing with the transgressions of Carissa’s parents and the implications stemming from the political power struggles of her father. As danger lurks and the past catches up, Levi, with the assist from his father’s colleagues, saves the day and eliminates the obstacles standing in his and Carissa’s HEA. I tremendously enjoyed Levi and definitely recommend it to all romantic suspense enthusiasts!
I’m not generally a NA fan, but Brynne Asher could probably write an instruction manuel and I’d enjoy it. At first I was a bit confused because I remembered reading Asa Hollingsworth’s story, but it quickly became clear that the two stories overlapped. I LOVED reading some of the scenes (from Gifts) from a different point of view. The story itself was intense and fast paced, and had some serious curve balls thrown in. I am currently going through some things, and my ability to concentrate is pretty shot, but once I started this story, I literally read the whole thing in one sitting. It was fantastic.
Levi is every bit of his father’s son, and given how much of an Asa fan I am, I am here for it! Admittedly, I was a little leery after finding out this was a NA novel and set in high school, but I love everything Brynne has written so I went in trying to keep an open mind. This has everything you’re used to in a Brynne Asher novel, so don’t be afraid to jump in! While Levi and Carissa are young, they’re both great characters and so much more mature than half the adults I know. I loved their chemistry and loved watching them grow together. This is also written to coincide with the timing during Asa’s story in Gifts and I enjoyed seeing some of the same scenes and plot lines played out in Levi’s POV. The secondary characters in Levi are also great. Levi’s best friend Jack is an absolute hoot and made me laugh out loud several times. I also loved Carissa’s twin brother Cade and his protective side for Carissa. Be prepared for the usual BA novel full of humor, banter, spice, action, and angst!
☆5 “I know I’m a perv but I want to be the cheese in a Hollingsworth men sandwich” Stars☆
Ms. Asher has managed to write a YA/NA that doesn’t feel at all like one, and I’m here for it. I mean, yes, Levi and Carissa are in high school but that’s pretty much it. I enjoyed the story tremendously and had no problem immersing myself in the characters’ lives. Carissa was sweet and loyal, and the way she wanted to protect her twin brother was inspiring. In true Brynne Asher fashion, she made one hot AF young alpha going headfirst after what he wanted and not letting anything get in his way. There’s no shortage of action, suspense and intrigue as well as some seriously off-the-charts hot sexnanigans. Let’s just say the Hollingsworth apple didn’t fall far off the Hollingsworth tree and leave it at that. I’d highly recommend reading Gifts (Levi’s dad’s book) for maximum enjoyment of this story… frankly if you haven’t read the whole Killer series just start there, but I really think this could be read as a standalone (you’ll just miss all the cameos). Also, don’t get thrown off by the high school setting it’s just a minor detail you won’t even notice… just get ready to feel like a perv, when you find yourself drooling after a high schooler!
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book*
Levi Hollingsworth is definitely the offspring of Asa, he gives broody a whole new meaning, is every bit as intense as his father but loves just as hard. Carissa, the new girl in school, she’s very mysterious and has a past no one would envy, but loves her twin brother Cade to a fault. Levi is tasked with tutoring the new girl in chemistry, their attraction to one another is immediate for both of them, but unfortunately they meet at a time with both of their lives are in turmoil. Carissa and her brother have been sent to live with their grandmother after drama with her parents, she just wants to get a passing grade and blend into the background. However, as we know with a Brynne Asher book you know there is going to mystery, intrigue and a whole lot of action, with a spectacular group of secondary characters. There really are no right words to describe their story, just sit back, strap yourself in and go for it, you won’t be disappointed. Can’t wait to see who and what’s next!
