No one said life was going to be easy, but mine just keeps getting harder.

My best friend has been abducted by a madman who seems to have returned from the dead with the sole goal of seeking revenge against me. She’s my friend, but she’s also essential in finding a cure for a virus that has the potential to destroy the supernatural world.

Did I mention there’s a war brewing between supernaturals and humans? My people, the Legacy, were responsible for the first supernatural war, and now I’m tasked with preventing the second.

McKenzie Hunter is the author of urban fantasy, dark fantasy, and paranormal romance books. She discovered early that new adventures were just a page-turn away; all she had to do was read a book. She’s had her share of escapades from hanging out with vamps, joining the chaos of shifter packs, creating spells with witches, and avoiding deals with the fae.

When she isn't working on her next book, she’s reading, binge-watching TV, or disappearing into her own world during nature walks (probably on the lookout for magical beings—or maybe not).

Review of book 1-4

3.5 stars for the entire series

When I initially started this series I thought it was fantastic. I loved Levy, she reminded me of Kate Daniels and I couldn't wait to read more. My somewhat low rating is not for the characters but for the writing and maybe one character, Connor.

The premise of this series is that there was a group of magic users that were considered the gods in the magical community. These people decided that only them should be the one performing magic so they found a way to kill off the weaker supes. Their plan was eventually figured out after they killed thousands of people so the rest of the magical community banded up together and killed them off. Obviously they couldn't kill every single one of them, Levy is one of offspring of those that escaped.

A brotherhood who's main mission is to kill the remaining legacies find Levy and she has to alter his memory to escape death. Then she is embroiled in some plot after plot and that's what the series is all about.

The first book I liked, great introductions, I liked the secondary characters. I didn't find it repetitive, I didn't find Conner as aggravating as I did in book 4, so there's that. The subsequent books become annoying as heck.

Conner obviously was a psycho. Levy told him time and time again that she didn't want anything to do with him but he refused to listen because apparently she's the one for him and to his thinking he just has to wear her down. There are people like this, truly, those that can't take a message but this went on through four books. It was annoying because sometimes I felt the conversations were repeated verbatim.

That takes me to this series repetitiveness, I understand that they will be some kind of recap as a new book starts but it was just too much, the same story was carried on through four books. I didn't even notice it until book 4, so kudos to the author for making it subtle, I guess.

I liked Garrett but I didn't understand why she had to act coy every time he was around. She still was averting her eyes in book 4 when they had already had sex in book 2. I couldn't understand that.

I had hoped we would have to face different villains like the KD series but that did not happen,we had Psychotic Conner all through. I thought at the end of book three he would be gone but nope, he rears his ugly head again. I did not like that.

I did enjoy the series all in all and I will be looking forward to reading more from this author.

Not so legendary

I don't know if maybe its the timing btwn when the last book came out to this one but i was really disappointed. I really wanted to like this book but i just didn't feel any excitement for it and finished only because I'd come this far in the series.

First i think the storyline w Connor just felt strained. It just read as a villain that when he came on the scene you think to yourself...you again? Why are you still here?

Another thing that I didn't get was Levy's relationship w Garrett. Nothing was really mentioned abt why they liked each other. You didn't feel any pull. Most of their conversations was Levy saying how hot Garrett thought he was and Garrett agreeing and joking ard abt how confident he was in his looks.

Same could be said w the relationship w Lucas and Savannah. She loves the fang, Levy is a suck block (what are we 5?) And Lucas is a bit of an a$$. I get that he is Master vampire but his attitude and tone towards Levy kind of...sucked.

The best part of the book was the ending and the new character introduced earlier on that they deal with. That was great to read abt and i wish they delved into the place and why that character was there. What is Dorian to Her? Why is she so childlike? So many questions but i guess we'll see where that leads.

Another reviewer mentioned that Ms Hunter is a repeater and that strikes again here. From how many times we hear why she prefers to go by Olivia, to being told abt supernatural beings great hearing and ability to tell lies, to why Hanah had to die, and how much more powerful Connor was.

I really wanted to like and looked forward to this book but it was a big disappointment. I can't say I would recommend this and not sure I want to read more.

This fourth installment of The Legacy series finds Levy caught between helping her best friend, Savannah, and helping the public fight a virus sent out by Connor. Yes, you read that right. Connor is back... Again 😩.

Prepare yourself for the many eye rolls and sighs of annoyment that are to come. A villian that is to be used in more than one installment must be powerful, cunning, intriguing, and scary as hell. Unfortunately, Connor only has power and I put an asterisk next to that one because he has been beaten down in 3 books already. As he doesn't even possess the other characteristics listed, he does not fit the bill for a Super Villian. His presence felt so overdone. Every time he came into a scene I was annoyed. And he pulls the same tricks he has done since book one. He is actually a terribly written bad guy. I surely hope this is his last book because I can't take anymore of his insignificance.

Then there is our lead heroin, Levy, herself. The author tries to force her into being this low key ,flannel wearing, comic book reading good ol' girl. Yet, it just doesnt fit. Levy constantly makes references to batman, the Marvel universe, and graphic novels in general. But it comes across so fake. Like a person trying to pretend they are into those things. Believe me, I see it a lot. Now that comics are cool, many try to pretend they are fans. That is how Levy comes across to me and I'm not even taking into account her childish banter and inability to take stuff seriously.

The love lives of Levy, Savannah, and Blue are just uninspired. There was no build up to make it stick. No intense draw and no emotional pull. Savannah just saw the Master Vampire and BAM they were an item. On a side note, Lucas is the worst Master Vampire I have ever read about in a novel. He has no sensuality, no sexuality, no powerful presence, and... whatever else you think a Master Vampire should have then he doesn't have that either. However, as readers we are supposed to believe he and Savannah have an unbreakeable bond forged from.... NOTHING. It's basically the same for the other two couples as well. Think about how love was built stine by stobe between Bella and Edward in the the Twilight series... now think about how Mercy and Adam went through hell and high water to realize they loved each other in the Mercy Thompson series. Now, if anything happens to those characters, you would feel the hurt or you as if it was you in the pages. But you don't have any of that here. They meet and they date. That's it.

There was one spark to this book that kept me from rating it a 1 Star and that was THE ISLAND. Now here was the opportunity for an awesome story. Levy and Garret visit a secluded island that is home to the purest forms of Supernatural. They encounter a mix of magical creatures that are masters in trickery. They come across a demi-goddess who doesn't want to let them leave and unintentionally strike a bargain with her. This was a good storyline but didn't get enough page time. I would have preferred a full story around these characters instead of another stale run at Connor. This small portion of the book was a saving grace for me. Curiosity about reading more about them is probably why I'll try out the next book.

My Star Rating:

2 Stars 🌟🌟- Decent. Has Potential. . Doesn't mean I hated it. Just means it was missing something to push it over the hump.

So glad that this is over....sort of. I tired of all the kidnapping by Connor and arrests by Gareth and his crew. It was annoying--same old same. I like the idea of her working with Gareth. Those might be interesting reads.

Rogue Magic (Legacy #4) by McKenzie Hunter Book 4 at last. A fitting end to the story with a door left cracked for the possibilities of more stories. Still, the end came, the threads tied off, good guys and bad guys get their due. Levy figures out who she is and why she's there. Gareth remains stoic but reveals something he kept hidden (in a good, light-hearted way but no spoilers). Savannah has her quest bag packed in case of more adventures. The romance is slow burn, the sexy parts quiet and almost sweet, and this is UF, not necessarily ParaRom--which means the focus isn't on the romance. Which is okay. It's still a good tale, ending a good series. I enjoyed it, and while I snatched the bundle on sale, it would be worth the price of full admission.

I enjoyed 😁

The reason I choose only 4 stars for this book is personally it took me a little longer to get into than previous books and Skybrook series which I tend not to be able to put down once I start.
I liked the twists and turns once did get into and introduction to new characters coming into it the series. Look forwards to see what these new characters hold for the future and how they will impact and play apart in Levy life and journey be it good or bad.
Loved Savanna and a shock that she carries out! Hope this hasn't really effected her like she acts.
Look forward to the next Chapter so to speak in Levy Journey and the path she has chosen, let's hope there ain't to many bumps in the road for her down the line 😜 xoxo
would I recommend Mckenzie Hunter series to new people looking for an Author to read? If ur into ur supernatural world's, romance squeezed in there and fighting ect..then this is definitely another author to add to ur list! 😁

What an amazing end to an amazing series. Book 4 Rogue magic is everything you would want in a final book. It moves the story alone lovely while tying all the loose end up. Levy and Gareth’s interactions are also amazing, they are funny, sarcastic and bounce off each other, I got all the feels, and they both remained true to there characters till the very end. Savannah was also amazing in this book, she really come into her own, I really just love her more and more. To top all this off there was some super HOT HOT HOT!! Moments as well, I would really recommend to anyone.

I found the villain tedious. Although the idea of the h&H being coworkers has interesting possibilities I’m unlikely to continue the series.

I feel like the author was trying too hard: too many thesaurus words and the dialogue and cadence felt forced. “Witty banter” between characters felt awkward. Numerous and unnecessary explanations of everything, like the author didn’t trust readers to remember events or reasons behind actions, which distracted from the action that was supposed to be happening.
I finished the series because I wanted to know how it ended but did not completely enjoy the ride. I liked some characteristics of the characters but couldn’t connect emotionally with them and didn’t feel or understand the connection between Levy and Gareth. And their intimate scenes were lacking - not that they needed to be graphic but they felt rushed and explained-through rather than experienced.

Terrible

It had some good moments, but I found the heroine useless I kinda wanted her to die for being so stupid all the time, so sick of heroines not being able to make a decision or say NO because they are horny and let their hormones make the decision, the Garets behaviour towards Levy was disturbing no romantic or endearing.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rogue Magic, the thrilling conclusion to the Legacy Series, ramps up the action as human militant groups and rogue supernaturals wreak havoc on the city. This time, they wield a deadly weapon that drains magic from supernaturals, slowly killing them. It's a race against time for Levy, Gareth, and the SG to uncover the culprits and their dangerous new arsenal.

Just as they prepare to search for the remaining Legacy, a ghost from the past kidnaps Levy's BFF, Savannah. Conner, who isn't as dead as everyone thought, is hell-bent on ending all supernaturals and exacting revenge on Levy for rejecting him. His abduction of Savannah has an unexpected twist: Savannah's sudden hatred and fear of Levy.

Levy, Gareth, and Lucas will stop at nothing to rescue Savannah and unravel the mind games Conner played on her. Determined to end Conner once and for all, Levy knows prison won't suffice and she vows to kill him.

Leaving the hunt for the rogues and their weapon to the Feds and SG, Gareth and Levy embark on a dangerous quest to a mythological island to find a crucial ingredient for a spell to save Savannah. Along the way, they encounter strange new creatures and powerful enemies, racing against the clock to find the elusive plant and escape with their lives.

Rogue Magic is another fast-paced, tension-filled read. I wished for more development in Levy and Gareth's relationship—the slow burn remains slow, and I craved more. Conner's descent into madness after his near-death experience at Gareth's lion's claws is fascinating. He wavers between hatred and a twisted desire for Levy, making him a compelling enemy.

However, the final battle felt a bit anti-climactic. The story could have wrapped up nicely, but an additional enemy appears out of nowhere, feeling tacked on without much purpose. Although it tied up a minor loose end and had some intrigue, it seemed unnecessary to the story, which was already nearing its conclusion.

Overall, the series was exciting and worth the read. I love McKenzie Hunter's books and find her character and world-building to be unique and enjoyable.

Excellent story in many ways, but rife with continuity errors

The first three books referred to the Trackers organization as "Guardians of Order". In this book, they're referred to as the " Brotherhood". Very marrying for their name to change with no reason given. How could that just be a mistake? Savannah was frequently with Levy when Left was performing magic for which she did not easily have the needed strength. A couple of times, Savannah helped. Other times she stood by looking helpless or in a defensive position for a physical battle that would not happen if she helped black. Why? And in the last book or two, Savannah was trained to use weapons, and great pains were taken to point out the she looked like she would be very lethal with them but wasn't actually very skillful. In this book, when she picks up knives, she looks awkward and unskilled. Why? How can her training go backwards?

That kind of inconsistency caused this to be a four star instead of five star rating. It's more than sloppy, because we're not just talking typos here, or incorrect word usage (which also happens "impedance" --a term specific to electricity -- being used instead of "impediment"; " portentous " used where "pretentious" was probably the desired meaning), these errors change the canon and timeline.

Better beta readers needed!

Good series

As some of you might be aware of, I am not good at these. Some of the reviews read like a professional wrote them. However, I am not one and I write what I think and feel.
I do like this series and the way it is written. I like the introduction of new characters and by the blessed ending of others. What I didn't care for was the time it took to end one that took up 4 books to do it. For me it got old and tiresome. What continued to happen was not a surprise at all. What kept me interested was how the other characters responded and finally, the introduction of new ones.
I am happily looking forward to see how the coming changes will work out. Hopefully, none will become as stretched out as in the first four books. I appreciate the fact that the female lead has remaind strong and continues to make herself stronger by learning more about who and what she is. That is what has kept me coming back for more.
So all in all, a job well done and thank you for bringing us into your not so typical, magical world.

A Very Satisfying Finale

All the right ingredients. A snarky, tough, compassionate heroine, a love interest who is strong enough to reasonably be with her, a great, quirky best friend, an even weirder best friend’s love interest.

Then the plot. Hmmm, a sociopathic, narcissistic, megalomaniac who, essentially, wants to take over the world, and is charismatically adept at lies, fear-mongering,
and heinously vicious violence to gain chumps (oh, I mean followers).

It’s a new twist on a regrettably classic, recurring cycle in history. I like that because it seems to me that fantasy is most exciting when the characters show a realistic ‘humanity’

I can’t honestly name a favorite. It might be our heroine, Levy, she of the extremely casual dress code, cool fighting skills, and relentless attitude. Or it might be her best friend, Savannah, eternally chipper, bossing those of high power and status, faithful to a fault, and I gotta love that that chock-full ‘quest bag’.

I hope you enjoy this. I sure did.

The final book of the Legacy series is as exciting and interesting as the other three. It picks up directly where the third left off with Levy and company trying to save her friend. Levy and Gareth travel to a mysterious island where the inhabitants like to be left alone in order to get an ingredient necessary to save Savannah.
I liked how there are creatures that can be stronger than the Legacy out there. And that the island that has stayed virtually untouched by the outside world...for good reason.
I also enjoyed the different ways Connor convinced people to follow him; he changed his rhetoric depending on what the audience needed to fulfill his purpose. It gave him some needed characterization that was a little stagnant in the previous books.
I will say Levy’s constant prejudice against vampires did get a little annoying. She really just needs to get over it.

All in all, it’s a nice series to read and the final book gave a nice conclusion.

Absolutely loved this series. I did feel there were moments that went too quickly or slowly such as Connors death. I thought it may have been more of a group effort with the girls and their guys. I could see Savannah’s involvement in the death coming from a mile away, but after all that run around to get to him the fight kind of felt a bit quick. It was gearing up for ages and then was over without much of a fight. Then the whole extra part at the end with the Naga felt like it was added on as an extra. Is this for a possible spin off? That was the only reason I could come up with. Other than that I felt satisfied at the very end. It all felt a bit, well, normal. But I guess that’s all Levy wanted in the end. Great series. Recommend.

I really enjoyed this series. Olivia (Levy) is a sarcastically funny person, but not in a mean way. And she’s a strong, brave protagonist. But she has a huge secret. Her best friend and she have a wonderful relationship, which was nice to read about. Her boss is snarky, but loves Levy. It’s been a number of years since a war that ended with humans and supernaturals coming together in a tenuous live and let live agreement. This sad, exciting, loving, surprising story is about Levy trying to keep her secret, and what happens when it’s revealed. Along the way, the characters she meets are kind, helpful, horrifying and evil. But she is determined to keep her friends and loved ones safe, and ensure justice for those that would hurt them.

Such a great series!

I always look forward to any book in this series and once it comes out, I’m filled with excitement to read what happens. The world and the characters are so different and unique from among the numerous paranormal books. Levy is tough as nails, snarky and doesn’t swoon over the hair nay male. He actually has to pin her down and it was very refreshing to have that here. Savannah is just as funny and cute as ever. I loved the story and this book wrapped up an arc that has been there through out the series so I don’t know if this is the finale or not. If it is, then it’s very complete and satisfying. If not, then I look forward to more!

Great ending.....

Levy has come a long way from the rogue Legacy practicing magic at the bottom of a cave. Her boyfriend Garath is a shifter and head of the Supernatural Guild. But Savannah has been captured by Connor and she will go to hell and back to undo the mess Connor has made of her mind. Her friends and Savannah "s boytoy Lucas work night and day to fix this problem.

This final installment has all the excitement and suspense of a well thought out mystery. The characters are interesting and the story follows a line of utter excitement. I was on pins and needles trying to figure out the next step.

Read on my friends.

An ending worthy of a Legacy

Everything gets wrapped up nicely. There is an interesting misunderstood snake-tress in this book. Savannah is used against Levy. Conner changes her memories & makes her afraid of Levy. It really infuriates Levy. It takes several attempts to fix the problem. They find out who is behind the attacks on supernaturals. It is quite shocking who is being used against his will. Levy & Gareth go on a quest to find a rare flower they need to fix Savannah. It's a very strange island with strange rules. And no one usually comes back from a visit there. I love the ending!

The whole series was- wash, rinse and repeat. A waste of time for me.
I need P. briggs, faith hunter, Kim harrison. To Help me get out of the fog.
She is not kick ass he was bla as a lion, and in each book she died came back, and the one she fought did the same, over and over, ! Glad it's over, the ending was just stupid.

A great love story this is not

Where to start? If you've managed to slog your way through the first 3 books, go ahead and skip this one. It's basically more of the same, plus a bizarre plot added to the second half of the book that makes exactly no sense whatsoever. The two main characters do not have any sort of burning, passionate love affair going on. It's basically a relationship that you feel will end up as "we're better as friends than lovers." Such a disappointment! Don't waste your time.

I havent devoured 4 books in 2 days since my teens. I loved the characters, the story kept me wanting more! I really enjoyed finding out about fae, mages and shapeshifters it was a good paced set of books, the final book tied up a lot of ends and the naga...wow...well worth the read.

I liked this book a lot. Lots of action which made sense. Levy is a great character. Sting capable and when she makes a plan it dies tend to work. If Levy just reacts, she loses.

But I won’t be reading anything else in the series. I read the sample for the next book and it says Conner comes back. Again. No. Just no. A storyline has to end. Two climatic endings to resolve Conner are enough. Another book to bring Conner back into the story is too many. And frustrating for this reader

Levy has finally found her place in society. It came after much blood, fighting and magic. She is a Legacy. In a world where Legacy magic was thought to be extinct. Powerful and dangerous. She faces prejudice and fear eventhough she is kind. Her roommate Savannah, her boyfriend Gareth and Savannah's boyfriend Lucas are all trying to prove how innocent of breaking the law she is, Levy keeps ending up in trouble with the law.

Frustrating

Love this serirmes but Geez Louise... how many times.must we hear about the Big Lions's ego? Or insecurity about the Legacy past, OR how many times searching for a aupposedly omnipotent, murderous Verdu who can only be found un some woods and never kills the lower Legacy who continues to kick his ass ? Can we please, please kick up some originality? Same book, same narrative, again, and again and again
