Yuktahaar: The Belly and Brain Diet

Rate this book
Have you ever wondered why diets just don't seem to work? In Yuktahaar, award-winning nutritionist Munmun Ganeriwal argues that the reason why none of the diets in the past have seemed to work is because they focused on the wrong cause-you, the reader. While we may continue to have a fling with low carb, vegan, low fat diets and everything in between but a long-lasting solution may never be found if we do not shift our focus from 'you' to 'them'-the human-gut microbiome connection.

Nearly all chronic issues are rooted in an imbalanced microbiome. Disruption in the balance of your belly-based microscopic community not only causes weight gain and increases the risk of chronic diseases but also impacts our mood, behavior, happiness, and a general sense of well-being.

In this book, Munmun gives an actionable 10-week holistic program that encourages a gut balancing lifestyle, consisting of season-wise meal plans, recipes, exercise routines, sleep hygiene tips, and yoga practice. The book also charts actress Taapsee Pannu's phenomenal physical transformation while working with Munmun. With a focus on combining traditional, regional Indian foods with evidence-backed tips, Yuktahaar will transform your relationship with food and rebalance your gut for a leaner and healthier you.

It is very important to have proper fitness levels so as to sustain the insurmountable pressure that our personal and professional life create on us. Now fitness has two components: one is physical while other is psychological . Both needs to go hand in hand to have an overall fulfilling life. This book is a commendable effort in this direction.

Yuktahaar is a concept which is talked in Srimad Bhagavad Gita also. This book by nutritionist Munmun Ganeriwal beautifully blends the ancient lifestyle with new way of living as per the technological advancement and the outcome is a perfect sustainable plan which can take care of our well being for a long time. In this fast paced world , we have become a puppet in the hands of circumstances due to which we are consuming everything mindlessly whether it is food or information which is having a detrimental impact on our physical and mental health and shaping our thoughts in a wrong way.

The best part about this book is it is doesn't encapsulate a shortcut plan to get fit quickly . Instead ,it is based on scientific and proven methodology and take into account the fact that while on a concentrated diet a person doesn't need to starve himself but certainly needs to be mindful of what is going inside his system.

Overall a very informative read

Yuktahaar - yukt + ahaar, where yukt means the right quality, amount and timing, and ahaar means food.
.
In this book, nutritionist and lifestyle consultant Munmum Ganeriwal talks about the gut microbiome and how its health affects our well-being. She gives a detailed, much-needed, sensible explanation for this. So much so that I found myself furiously highlighting many parts of it!
.
Munmun Ganeriwal also takes us through the Brain and Belly Diet, named thus because there's a correlation between the two parts of our body and how this correlation affects our physical AND mental health is what she has talked about in here. This diet spans 10 weeks, broken down into 3 phases, and every reasoning behind the process is carefully laid out. There are also a few things that I knew, but sometimes, reiterations help, and I'm hoping that the way that Munmun has listed everything, I'll be able to implement them as soon as possible.
.
It's not a crash diet or a fad diet as we see on social media. Instead, it focuses on sustaining good health while enabling us to achieve our physical and mental health goals. And for that and more, I'm grateful that I got this book in my hands!

***Book Review***

“Lord Krishna says that we should work on our body and mind, as these are the only instruments available to us.” (Bhagavad Gita 6.5 and 6.6)

🧘🏻‍♀️’Yuktahaar’ is a holistic programme, covered in three phases that encourages a gut-balancing lifestyle, mainly consisting of food, exercise, sleep hygiene and neural retraining i.e. practises to calm the mind.

🧘🏻‍♀️The Bhagawat Gita also talks about ‘Yuktahaar’ where ‘yukt’ means right quantity, amount and timing, and ‘ahaar’ is food. (Bhagawat Gita, 6.17)

🧘🏻‍♀️In the era of intermittent fasting, leti diets, gluten-free, vegan…so many diets are being followed like a trend. Apps are introduced claiming to help you reduce weight, but failing to provide a long-lasting solution.

🧘🏻‍♀️This book talks about TBBD, the only 10 week programme in the world that combines traditional regional Indian foods, ancient Indian yogic practises and Ayurveda principles that focuses on improving the balance and diversity of our microbial community.

🧘🏻‍♀️In this book, you’ll find the tools to make these factors work in your favour, and help you overcome your weight gain. It’ll help in reducing your cravings, your chronic health complaints disappearing.

🧘🏻‍♀️I personally loved it. If you are looking for a long term sustainable solution that won’t change with trends, that will make you feel happy and vibrant. This book is your bible. I was so hooked and astonished to know about this new, yet old, way of living, the ancient way, I’m a true follower of Bhagawat Gita and for me getting an insight into the ancient lifestyle was a boon.

🧘🏻‍♀️It is up to us how well we manage our body and mind to make it work for us instead of against us.

🧘🏻‍♀️‘Yuktahaar’ will transform your relationship with food and help in rebalancing your gut for a leaner and healthier you. Highly recommend to the once who wanna switch to a healthier lifestyle.

Translations
He who is regulated in his habits of eating, sleeping, recreation and work can mitigate all material pains by practicing the yoga system.
- Bhagwad Gita

What is Yuktahar?

"Yuktāhāra means to take food is not forbidden, but you have to take food only just to maintain your body, not for, I mean to say, taste of your palate or tongue. That should be practiced. You should live... You should eat to live. You should not live to eat. "

I came across Yuktahar when I needed it the most. I have been trying to loose weight since a very long time now. I have tried every home remedies that is available on the Internet. And obviously, nothing has worked.
Munmun had me in the first few pages, when she started talking about Madhav.

This book is an all-encompassing guide that offers a personal one-on-one coaching approach to health and fitness. The 10 week program focuses on your total wellness - body, mind, and emotions while keeping in mind your cultural and social preferences.Yuktahar has a completely unique take on health and fitness that you probably have not come across before. The 10 week program provided in the book is a holistic approach to living and will ensure the transformation of your body, and mind so that you start living rather than just existing.

The author explains a lot of concepts in a simple language and I'm on Phase one of her 10-week programme. I was convinced to try this after the book explained to me the reasons why we gain fat, how our gut microbes work and so much more. I also loved how the author has provided us diet plans which focus on Indian foods + Taapsee's diet was a big bonus.

After reading many diet books, I am confident in saying that Yuktahaar is the best one because everything is based on actual biology and not some fads. Superb!

There exists a time when every one of us had been going through a diet or at least you have heard of someone who goes through the diet. A healthy diet is a very vital aspect of happy living. It is important to consume healthy foods for a healthy body and a healthy mind. I'm very conscious about my health and so does everyone but we often miss to keep the track of our food intake. We can't deny the fact that nowadays we consume foods for taste rather than for their nutritive values.
Medical-related non-fictional books are so rare around the world. The book illuminates the important facts which are deeply informative. The author beautifully narrates the imbalanced microbiome that causes defective nutrition or excessive nutrition in our bodies. This book provides an effective 10-week holistic strategy that facilitates a gut-balancing lifestyle, comprising of health tips, healthy food recipes, season-wise meal plans, exercise and workout routines, sleep hygiene tips, and yoga practice. The language is subtle and even a person with non-biological background would understand the context presented in the book.

This book details the main problem we have in the modern food system. Mumum aims to clear up the confusion around the nutrition and diet we take in day-to-day life. There are many chronic diseases that are associated with unhealthy food eating habits. Some foods which undergo certain changes during the processing have the potential to degrade our health in long term. The book also provides physical transformation of actresses like actress Taapsee Pannu, Nayanthara, etc while working with Munmun. This book is definitely inspiring me in many ways and I would try out the interesting diets mentioned in the book. Even though the book's contents entices me, I would recommend the readers not to go by just reading this book alone, for good health, personal research is very important. The book title is creative and the cover looks attractive with the author and one of her client actresses Taapsee. Rigorously written and presented with facts and insights, this book is recommended to everyone who is keenly interested in their health although I would urge everyone to read this book.

I would say just one thing straight about this book that it has been a great learning experience while I read this one.
The author has bluntly busted all trendy myths about diets and made everyone aware of the harmful repurcussions of the same.
She has presented a carefully curated ten week plan I won't call it a diet plan but a fitness plan instead. Because people nowadays are so focused on losing weight that they don't mind losing their health simultaneously!!.
I loved the fact the author is well versed with Indian Vedic Literature and our ancient practises , I know alot of people in my circle who due to sheer ignorance have always disregarded the power of yoga, ayurveda when western culture is busy influencing and practising Ayurveda.
You'll find this book justifying and giving you very logical explanations on how to cleanse your body and maintain a sustainable lifestyle which will help you in working for longer hours , with increased energy.

Although the initial part of the book has much clinical terms a layman won't quite get, author has tried her best to keep narration humorous and lingo filmy making the book so comfortable that you feel close to the author itself.
The book also consists of several myth busting elements with regards to the abundant supplements and food diets the western people have influenced us, it wasn't an eye opener for me since I'm close to Ayurveda through my family and knew these well, but for rest of the people ofcourse it'll be one!!!
My shocker moment was when the author concludes that anxiety and depression are connected to the gut too, this was something I really new. You must wait for that chapter!
I must say this is a must read for all the gym freaks and fitness freaks and also the people who aim for a fit life, where you live abundantly and not with guilt , and why just them, each and every person who aspires to become healthy not just by the body but with the brain and the belly should go and grab the copies!!

"Yuktahaar" comprising of two words "Yukta" meaning quality and "Ahaar" meaning dietary food.

The whole book revolves around the idea that what you feed yourself is what comes back to you in the form of not just your physical well being but also your mental health.

The author's holistic approach towards the concept of belly and brain diet is so intriguing that you can't help but read more, and more, and more about it.

I personally found myself taking it to Google at every reference I found in the book to any mentioned scientific concept in the first 4 chapters.

Munmun Ganeriwal has wonderfully explained the desperate need to understand the sudden rise in lifestyle related issues and to work upon the root cause of these issues, and not just what we are blindly following under the specific categorisation of physical and mental health.

Having the background of a science student, it was exciting for me to read and learn about this unexplored concept of microbiomes and how much importance they hold in our life.

But, this is not it. The Author doesn't stop here, she rather goes ahead to introduce her 10 weeks yuktahaar program where she actually helps you throughout the process of adopting a healthier and a more health-conscious lifestyle.

With our generation, where people are working from home, doing overtime, working at odd hours, having a messed up eating and sleep schedule, this is indeed the need of the hour. I'm so glad that I came across this book and I'm full of gratitude for Munmun Ganeriwal for sharing her pitara of scientific knowledge and research with us all through the medium of this book.

I've already embarked on my Journey to a holistically healthier lifestyle and I'd recommend everyone to read this book and feel privileged to have access to this book and all that it has to offer.

Have you ever randomly checked to diet and lifestyle ideas from random videos or blogs? Did you try to utilize that diet in your own ways?

If you have done any of the above it's time you check this book out by Munmun. She not only shocks you with the amazing tips but gives a refreshing perspective towards your health and diet. This books makes you feel healthy physically and also mentally.

Who knew a 10 week programme can change the way you live and the way you feel. The book is written in a simple yet elegant way explaining the minute details of microbiome imbalance causing the nutritional levels to drop or rise. It focuses on both mind and body's interconnection.
The narration is brilliantly done which feels like a personal counseling session that explains how, what, and why your body and brain needs what it needs.

The book explains what's TBBD and the 3 important Rs of the TBBD phases.
The SPAR technique intrigued me. The way how when and what part of eating is explained is really amazing.

The junk in disguise was personally shocking for me. Exercise, sleep, yogic rituals, diet plans, recipes, you name it everything is covered in this book.

To make the plan even simpler the author has used charts and tables. The recipes mentioned are easy to make and extremely healthy.

Also special mention to the author for such intense research for the season wise plans, routines, and a strengthening book that doesn't make you feel weak or restless.

Overall this is a book you should read to understand your brain and body. Don't read the book because you hate your body but because you love your body!
And I guarantee you that this book will make you love yourself even more than ever.

Scrolling through Instagram I discovered her handle. She was talking about her new book release followed by a ten week reboot-repair-renew health program called #tenweeksofyuktahaar involving only traditional food ,ayurveda principles and yoga with basic exercise. That perked my curiosity so much that since then I have been routinely following her posts and stories. Needless to say, I bought the book the very next day, absorbing and taking notes of everything she offered.

Undeniably I feel it’s the best book in its forte so far, one that you come back to more than often for reference. Well researched with numerous table guides on meal plans as per our region, seasonal food guide and some age old recipes. Being a Marwadi I finally now know the science behind basoda and bajra rabdi .

The nutritionist author have had mastered her craft for decades now, writes on how to maintain a rich and diverse gut flora by rightly glorifying and consuming our traditional food abiding to the 3Rs and spar technique. Through thorough analysis and scientific proofs she busts fads and misconceptions about nutrition science and lets us through the journey of three phases of rebooting and renewal of our tiny gut microbiome heroes.

The emphasis is on basic food weapons like ghee, khichdi, millets and herbal teas, especially her magic mix , that I swear by after riddance of my period acne and bloating in a few days time. A healthy link between the gut~brain axis, prevention of dysbiosis and chronic inflammation, all with basic changes in lifestyle and food habits.

PS. I found her personal note in the book quite compelling and inspiring for the women of today.

The book Yuktahaar by Munmun Ganeriwal is a research-oriented book on physical, mental, and emotional health covering a large number of ailments of modern society. Obesity, high blood pressure, allergies, depression, digestive problems, and so on are all affected by changing lifestyle and food habits.
approach for many dimensions of health presented by her is TBBD (the belly and brain diet) in a three-phase action programme for 10 weeks.

According to this book, the writer emphasised that we are not what we eat, but what microbes eat.
I felt this book culminates a "right diet" considering additional diet spiritual consideration and aged old practises against modern practises depending on ultra-processed food and allopathic medicine having deliterous health hazards.

Ganeriwal prepared for us a planned food meal plan and timing in a tabular guide and cleared misconceptions about nutrition science. She glorifies traditional food habits, abiding by the 3 Rs and sparing technique.
Ganeriwal suggested to readers that the basic food weapons are khichdi millets and herbal tea to prevent dysbiosis and chronic inflammation to maintain a healthy link between the gut and the brain.
The book is quite inspiring as it discusses well the physical transformation of eminent actresses like Tapsee Panu and Nayantara, while working with Munmun is a motivating impetus for all and being a participant in the TBBD holistic programme.
I strongly advise you to read it at least once and then refer to it for a better understanding of human nature.

"My own journey in life from being a nobody to being counted as one of the top health experts in the country is not due to any inheritance, connections or back-ups; it is only because of pure resilience."

Reading a book on health, diet plans and a lot information about body and it's metabolism, has always been my favourite thing. And so is this book where I found all of this along with a lot of motivation, inspiration and a lot of positivity. The author of the book is a wonderful woman who side by side tells us how she struggled in her life and became a successful human.

This book is a collection of information about the gut microbiome, how they work in out body, their importance and how to manage them efficiently in order to live a healthy life. A 10 week long plan is discussed in detail for the readers to follow the steps and procedures, not just to lose weight but to gain knowledge.

The foreword of the book is written by Taapsee Pannu and her diet plan has also been discussed in the book which makes it more interesting to read.

The best thing I learnt was the three R's- Right quality, Right quantity and Right timing. And I personally follow none of it in my daily life. There are some case studies also which the readers can relate to. The book is reader friendly, a person from North or South or East or West can find there diet food options in the book. That's what made me love the book more and more.

My take from this amazing, incredible book is to eat on the gap of some hours and not to keep grazing all day like I do all the time. And then I have planned to follow this 10 week diet plan too, to see how efficiently can I do it.

I recommend this book to all the people who want to live a healthy life. And I think each one of us want that, so it's for all.

'Yuktahaar' : The Belly & Brain Diet is a book written out of experience.
The calibre of the Author is clearly visible in the writing.
Having read many books on the fitness, diet and self care I assumed this book to be same like other books but surprisingly the book can offer much more than what we can expect.
However the Blurb seems to be as usual but the Cover and the foreword by Taapsee Pannu assures the audience to pick this book.

A reader who is already into fitness and dietary plans, for them the book seems to be a life changer as it clears all the existing wrong assumptions but at the same time a reader who is not bothered about the physical fitness and is trying to find some motivation, for such readers the book may not be suitable or it can end up as a one time read as most of the concepts seems to be new as well as complex.
The life of celebrity and the life of normal person are completely different and that's the suitable example to give a brief glimse of this book.

In brief, It was a good read.
Narration is clear and the topics have been well chosen.
Even if one has read multiple books under this genre, Yuktahaar still has a unknown content to offer to the readers.
Like the writing style, charts could have been slightly more clear.
Overall a well researched and impressive book.

This is a much needed book which talks about the gut microbes and their possible role in maintaining your health through the generational foods and How Ancient scripts look and described health in regard with food. The gut-brain axis which is very often ignored by the "diets". It  is explained in simple and curious way to hook up  the readers to it. None the less, it tells us to feel the way we are and keep the passion alive and not feel incapable. This advices us to strengthen the health through interesting interlinking concepts how neurotransmitters and gut microbes aids in improving obesity and other illnesses.

Interestingly, this comes with the recipes and few workout charts based on the region you live in, be it north, south, east and west.

It claims the information presented is based on the various Vedic texts, research and experiences.

Loved this book 💕💕💕This book put a lot of my fears to rest, I got boosted up every single day I read - 10 chapters in 10 days.

I don’t have to feel afraid anymore of restricting myself or feel triggered that I picked up a snack to curb my acidity due to high medications or mental trauma I am slowly healing from 💕.

I had started slowly incorporating small changes every day - at the pace I can😊

Now the question - do I want to start it - Hell Yes! But my current health situation is sensitive that I need to think it through - and plan it out in a way that it works hand in hand with the medication I am having - there are not many changes to be incorporated but this needs to be done. I am taking a week to read it again and plan it out and then start it 💕 - I will keep my progress updated on my main Instagram account 🤞I hope it works out 😎😎.

excellent diet advice, but not for Europeans!

This book is very informative and an easy read but sadly many won’t be able to get the ingredients needed to follow the diet. It would be great to have some alternative foods for a western diet.
