Tatyana Lee has been offered the arduous task of becoming Bluebonnet's new principal by her long-term mentor and current school board superintendent. The town's testing scores are dismal. In fact, Bluebonnet is ranked the worst in the state of Texas. Tatyana's immediate response was to turn down the position; however, her success could place her as the front runner to be the youngest school superintendent in Texas history.
Tatyana accepts the challenge and has one year to drastically improve the school's testing scores and overall academic marks to avoid shutting down the public school. Tatyana is not thrilled to leave the comforts of the big city for the little Podunk town with a population of less than one thousand and prays the rumors she has heard are not true.
Keith Bailey is the well-loved and admired sheriff of Bluebonnet. His family established the town of Bluebonnet over one hundred years ago and has always been the governing law of the dilapidated city. The citizens of Bluebonnet, including Keith's family, turn their backs on him as soon as Tatyana Lee brazenly rolls into town with her No Trespassing signs and her double pistols on her hips.
Keith is instantly attracted to the dark-skinned woman with the sultry tongue and ego the size of Texas. He is befuddled by the woman's insistence in staying in a town where she truly did not belong and finds himself spending more time protecting Tatyana from the less-than-welcoming town folk and cleaning up after their vandalism.
How will Tatyana achieve her goals and deal with being the only Black resident in a predominantly racist town? Join Tatyana and Sheriff Bailey as the pair engage in the spiciest love affair that Bluebonnet has ever witnessed.
This novel is a BWWM Interracial story brimming with erotic scenes, derogatory language, and slurs. This book is meant for mature readers.
A. N. Boyden began her writing journey in 2018 as an escape from the pressures and demands of a high-stress social services job. She never expected her nearly illegible scratching to turn into not only a passion but a career three years later. A. N. Boyden's humble beginnings began on Wattpad, where "Spouse Swap" was born. She gained thousands of adoring and supportive followers who gave her the confidence and boost she needed to finally self-publish.
A. N. Boyden's niche is interracial romances and thrillers that feature an abundance of steamy scenes, drama, and countless laughs. The majority of A. N. Boyden's female characters are strong Black women who reside in the great state of Texas, just like her. She sometimes refers to herself as a "one-woman" show, but frequently finds herself pitching her storylines to her husband, who is her number one fan.
From the first meeting, Tatyana and Keith sizzled with sexual chemistry. Their teasing will keep you smiling and even pull a couple of unexpected laughs. I love how the relationship wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine.
The residents of Bluebonnet seem unreal. I initially thought they had to be caricatures because they are next level overtly racist. However, I’m told small towns like this still exist in modern day.
The story was full of comedic relief, racism, drama, criminal activities, corruption, and tender moments. Great writing.
This was my first book from this Author and I enjoyed the storyline. The female character was sassy, kind hearted and funny the dialogue between her and the male character was fun. The beginning of the story was a little slow for me that's only my opinion. I would recommend
The people of Bluebonnet, Texas were just satisfied with the status quo. The Bailey family built the town and controlled it. They treated their 800 citizens like slaves. They wanted to keep them ignorant and uneducated solely for the purpose of grand theft embezzlement of the town's resources and taxes. The Bailey's were a selfish and self-absorbed family with like-minded people who did not want to improve their plight but just blamed their poverty on other people, not their own laziness and ignorance, and lack of education. Those that escaped Bluebonnet found that there was a better way of life outside of the town. That's what Keith Bailey found out when he went to college. There were other people who lived productive and active lives who were not like their 100% white town.
When Tatyana Lee was encouraged to take the principal job in Bluebonnet to improve the plight of the children's education, she hesitated but she wanted the incentive for a better job assignment after her year was up by her mentor. The townspeople were in an uproar when they found out who the new principal was and wanted her gone ASAP. Keith Bailey, forced by his family to become the town's sheriff after he graduated from college, was impressed by Tatyana. He only knew her for a short period of time, but she ticked off everything on his list for the perfect woman for him. He knew he had to protect her from his family and townspeople.
Taty would not be deterred and she outsmarted them with their antics and befriended a few people in Bluebonnet. She tickled me how she handle each situation they threw at her. First, the women came at her because the sheriff was interested in her, just to name a few of the typical things ignorantly prejudiced people did. Tatyana showed bravery, class, and exceptional quick wit in each situation that was thrown at her until she thought that Keith was in danger. That was the point that changed she and Key's relationship. They were both permanently changed by that situation and had to take a step back in their relations for healing before they could move forward. That healing did come but it took its time.
The story was well written. It hit every scenario that could happen in a town like Bluebonnet and with a relationship of a white sheriff and a black female principal. Taty and Key's flirting with each other had me falling out laughing. Taty's personality could charm a rattlesnake and she tried it with the townspeople, but they were just too stubborn and ignorant to realize that she was there to help them and their children. In the end, Keith and Tatyana got the last laugh.
I highly recommend this book and I see why it made Facebook BWSL 2021 top book list.
Okay soooo this book started off so strong and the plot is 5 stars BUT it takes a turn 1/3 of the way.
I wish the author turned this into a series or at least progressed this book along. We never really saw the FMC's educational skills. I wish she actually stated to teach or be principle...? Like nothing ever progressed except with a few people in town.
Second, I saw a swift change of character in the FMC. One second shes laid back and logically next she's punishing the hero for something and not expressing herself. And she lovessss being loud aggressive suggestive and blunt (which I loved)! Halfway through, her therapist is making all her decisions.
Which comes to my last complaint, that's just not what a good therapist does!!!! The whole therapy situation at the end made absolutely no sense. This girl has been lied to and abandoned by the people who should have loved her the most BUT THE PERSON WHO TAKES ALL THE BLAME IS THE HERO?!!!!??
I absolutely hate books that make unrealistic relationship scenario. No man is going to keep chasing after someone who is using excuse after excuse not to be together.... It was so frustrating and it made the hero look weak. I wish he started seeing someone else after she kept saying he's single and could do whatever he wants to do. He was a good man who really loved her.
I read the reviews about the other book and I think this seems to be the theme for her FMC so I won't be reading this author again. The writing was 3.5/5 and like I said the book has lots of potential.
Okay so storyline one the best I’ve read this far. Characters are too nut I mean taty character alone will have readers falling in love with the story. It’s got drama, Romance and comedy. I mean funny. Love this whole story I hope ronnie gets a story.
I’m so happy that I got the chance to finish reading this book by one of my favorite authors who I always called AB. I started reading her books on Wattpad and her writing style captivated me from the beginning. I love her POV’s in her books, how there’s character development and emotional growth for her characters. I’m just thrilled that she’s here on Amazon/Kindle, I knew she would be going places because she’s such a phenomenal writer. Keep reaching for your dreams AB because you did your thing with this book!!!!! Sometimes blood isn’t as thick as water and Keith most definitely fought for his woman, and their relationship!!!!!!!! Sometimes we have to be shown another way in life, that you might meet someone who’s One of a Kind!
Tatyana is sent to Blue Bonnet in an attempt to “fix” their school system. While there she meets Keith, who is the sheriff along with a host of other people. Some take an immediate dislike to her. The book follows the developing relationship between the two and all of the ups and downs that come with trying to be in an interracial “relationship” while living in a racist town.
I was on the fence about this book for a few reasons. While the book takes place in a racist town and there is a warning given in the description, I didn’t expect there to be so much of it. So much so that it tended to overshadow parts of the book. I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say it overshadowed the romance. The book is categorized as an interracial romance but it felt more like a guide to humbling racists, which was still a good premise but I bought it for the romance. At one point I had to put the book aside and read something else for a bit because of that.
Her relationship with Keith moved quickly. Tatyana was in his bed in the first or second chapter, handcuffed to it. They also needed to see a therapist after a couple of months of “dating”.
I would have liked to see Tatyana actually do the job she was sent there to do. We don’t see her go to work once in the novel, I’m not even sure what time of year it is. So, I don’t know for sure that she has any work to do. It’s unclear and never mentioned.
A few of the instances and scenes were drawn out and went on far too long in my opinion. They could have been cut in half and still had the same effect. Because of this, the book seemed to be drawn out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a long novel when it’s being flushed out and giving the readers everything they need. I didn’t quite feel as if that was happening with this the entire time.
I will say that Tatyana and Keith’s interactions were nice and their scenes were relatable when they weren't misunderstanding one another. A couple of their arguments could have been settled simply by talking to each other without either of them getting an attitude or taking things personally. Again, I can see how tension could run high in the situations she had to deal with. As well as other things I won’t spoil.
Their chemistry was good. You could feel the attraction they had for one another, and their flirtatious banter was fun to read. Tatyanna definitely kept Keith on his toes but he never let her knock him off balance and gave as good as he got, and then gave even more. I’d like to get a follow-up novel with them to see where they are now. To see how their relationship has developed or if it even still exists. I feel as though there is so much that can be explored with them in the future if the author sees fit.
There’s so much more I could say, but I’d be giving out major spoilers and I don’t want that. The book is worth a read as long as you aren’t made uncomfortable by the racial theme.
I’d be willing to try something else by the author as this book was enjoyable. Though the overshadowing took a bit of getting used to.
This book was good in many manys, but also challenging, reckless, and the reality of how bad things are TRULY in this country. The real complexities around this kind of blatant racism, esp as we have seen it in our country play in real life over the last 6-7 yrs, is still astounding to me. I love to see the H/h relationship play out, but their reckless abandon initially was ridiculous with the circumstances surrounding the story of racism that Taty was facing. I did love the realness of emotions and reality of what that looked liked. However, them just "doing them"- unprotected sex and all did not make logical sense when people are literally threatening you and your life in the era of Floyd, Sandra, Breonna. I loved watching a therapist come into the plot to help them both realistically with their trauma, pain, faults and child wounds. Loved that even though they started a$@ backwards, they got a therapist involved, retracted and started over. The latter part of the book is what redeemed the book for me.
Just got done reading this and it was EXCELLENT! If I could give more than five stars, I definitely would! Where do I start with Keith and Taty’s love journey? Let’s start with the emotions I experienced. I went through a host of emotions….laughter, sorrow, anger and joy. It was excellently well written, had very well thought out and developed characters, and an amazing plot. This book captured and held my attention from the first page until the last. I’m an avid IR reader and appreciate it when an author gives us what we need and want, a strong and independent Black woman and a strong man who loves her. This story had that in spades! Thank you author A. N. Borden. This is an AWESOME read!! I can’t wait to read what comes next! BRAVA!!
Love, love love that this story is so different then what has been the norm in the BWWM genre. This author knows how to craft a story full of drama that hooks your attention from the beginning. So many laugh out loud or quotable moments. I keep repeating lines to my husband to the point where he would ask what was going on in the book. I hated the therapist and hoped Keith would be spiteful when he suggested that they spit up. But I loved Taty’s sass and spunk! I do think this author could benefit from either beta readers or a better editor. Definitely some errors but nothing that takes away from a most enjoyable read. Anxiously waiting for the next book.
This was great!!! I was a little hesitant bc I knew the plot would be controversial. And if I’m being honest, I thought that it would be less in your face drama and just things that happened over the course of the school year. It was a whirlwind and def not a disappointment!!! And the steamy scenes were really good. I liked the characters, I loved the hard hitting moments, the banter and the witty comedy thrown in, the healing…. It was all great to me!! I have also been going through some of the same issues/feelings as Tatyana and I think that also resonated with me. This was good. So glad I read it!!
Tatyana Lee is offered the opportunity of a lifetime. Go to a little hick town in Texas and turn them around academically and obtain a position she never dreamed of having. Easy peasy right? Nope, wrong, so very wrong. The town of Bluebonnet isn’t very welcoming to all people. In that town you must be the right completion for the collection.
A great read and had some funny moments. While Tatyana didn't accomplish what she set out to do. She didn't let them see her sweat.
This story has got to be in my top twenty of books for the summer. The story reads like you are watching your favorite tv series. The flows is so effortlessly moving you don't realise that you have lost yourself in the story. Also thank you for a leading lady ,who not only knows what she is about, but can take care of businesses while being sexy about it.This was not only a.really.good story but it was a sad but true look at ignorance, ven too this day. Take a trip and spend the day when a teacher and a reluctant sheriff.
Ms. Boyden can write!! This book was so good. It had all the things: romance, good sexy scenes, mystery, humor. All the characters were well developed. I liked getting each character's perspective. That being said, Taty tended to get on my nerves a bit with her back and forth emotions with Keith. She knew they were a thing - stop acting like a midde schooler " You never asked me to be your girlfriend." Girl, grow up! I really have like the vooks I've read from this author and will continue to read her works. Can't wait to read Ronnie's story.

Had so much potential. Started out great and all of a sudden it just turned into some sort of porno. I thought I was in some book version of cinemax! Couldn't continue to waste my time with this soft porn crap with a little story thrown in. The MCs are just a couple of horny idiots who can't keep it in their pants. You're handcuffed on your front porch after getting bitchslapped by a gang of illiterate fools and all you can think about is the Sheriff's dick. I'm done with this joke of a book.

This book will get you in your feelings and at the same time Tatyana will kept you on laughing so hard. That girl is sometimes else! One of a kind!!! And her and Keith made perfect sense. Bluebonnet, the name alone is a “hick” name, the Baileys got what they deserved, too bad Klark did what he did at the end ( no spoilers). I am hoping that Ronie and Finn and even Ken will get their own stories. Awesome characters! love it.
That was a good entertaining book. I liked how different their characters were and yet how well they connected. Also how laidback and passionate Keith weas. Even though I side eyed a bit how quickly they got together, was a bit annoyed owh Tatiana's career took a bit of a back seat whereas it was supposed to be so important, and didn't find believable how T took everything that happened to her in stride. But the story still worked and I enjoyed it.
After reading the blurb I was a little sketchy about this book but intrigued; I kept coming back to it and finally decided to go for it and I’m glad I did. Writing about race and racism can be tricky and might make it difficult for the reader to still get lost in the love stories that’s unfolding. Well happy to see that this was not the case with this book. If you’re on the fence like I was go ahead you won’t be disappointed.
I found A. N. Boyden through Wife Swap and One of a Kind was just as good. If you like a fast paced funny love story this is it. Taty and Keith are the perfect match. Meeting at a time of transition for both, leaving an opening to find love in the most unlikely place.
I could not put this book down from the moment I started reading it. Talk about loving your fantasy, being comfortable where you are in life, enjoying misery and deception. Then fresh air blows through for a few with good news and that change the paths of lives. I love this read of justice for all.
The storyline starts off strong but ends up weak. No depiction of Tatyana doing her job. In addition, there is typo here and there. Characterization is pretty weak with unnecessary family conflict at the end.
A.N Boyden obviously projects herself into Tatyana because there is a paragraph that begins with I instead of Tatyana.
This is intense! A strong entry in the BWWM IR genre with our hero and heroine battling virulent racism and their own family of origin demons. The dialogue is on point; I alternated between chuckles and swoons as they navigated grown folks’ conversations. This author consistently delivers rich, thoughtful, unique and steamy storylines!
This is the second book I’ve read from this author and I’m now a bona vide fan. I was not expecting the last third of the book to go the way it did and was pleasantly surprised. I loved that that Taty and Keith’s relationship was not straightforward and how it was explored and resolved. Definitely one of a kind story.
I waited for this book to come out and was not disappointed. Tatyana embodies “ when life gives you lemon, make lemonade”… I say that with regards to the scene where Taty makes smores - read the book and it will make sense!
This book was not what I expecting, but it was so well written!! Keith and Tatyana were a mixed bag that I loved reading about!! I love Ronnie and Rebecca!!! Those two characters show what happens when treat people with love and kindness. Great read!
I'm going to keep this short and sweet. Read this book and prepare to laugh, be wet, and try to figure out how the author was going to pull this off and get all your assumptions wrong. A great gem to read.
This book was EVERYTHING, ok?! I laughed uproariously, at certain times and ugly cried at others. It seems like I went on an emotional rollercoaster. Kudos to the author and readers....don't sleep on this book!
