glow in the dark! grow to be as long as a fire truck! lose thousands of teeth during their lives! feel electricity in the water! Filled with outstanding photographs from the Wildlife Conservation Society, Amazing Sharks! is a new title in an exciting nonfiction I Can Read Book series. The series explores the amazing animals that share our world and how we can help them survive.
Sarah L. Thomson has written over thirty books for young readers, including poetry, prose, fiction and nonfiction. Her recent books include Cub's BIG World, which School Library Journal called “a big must-have" and Deadly Flowers: A Ninja's Tale, which Booklist called “genuinely thrilling." She lives in Portland, Maine.
I listened to the Save the … Elephants too, but Goodreads doesn’t have it listed. Great books that we should encourage our children and even adults to read and take the time to think about it
A very great book and a simple read! I learned a lot about sharks and it was overall really enjoyable. The pictures were an added bonus. This is an amazing book.
Amazing Sharks! By Sarah L. Thompson has not won any awards. This book is great for kindergarten to third grade. This nonfiction book is about amazing sharks! It describes all different types of sharks. This book is a great educational read that can teach students about sharks! Sharks are my favorite animals so I thought this was informative and the pictures were extremely real and cool! This book would be a great book to read in science class or when talking about nonfiction books. It talks about sharks and their characteristics. The pictures are real and up close so the students are able to identify some of the qualities they are talking about.
The book draws you in by telling you their are more than 350 different kinds of sharks in the world. The book goes over all of the many characteristics of sharks. This book does an amazing job at comparing sharks characteristics with something a child can relate too. For example it states "some sharks are as long as a fire truck other sharks you could hold in one hand". I would definitely suggest this book for the classroom. I would personally read it to second grade and under.
A very informational non-fiction book. 350 different kinds of sharks is a lot! In the book, they cover the most well-known kinds of sharks. They also cover that humans are killing sharks and how they are killing sharks. They do cover how we can protect sharks. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes animals and wants to learn more about sharks. There are a lot more shark species than I thought and I learned some new things about sharks!
This book is one that informs about the different types of sharks that can be seen. Along with it throughout the book, it has words that if needed to be sounded out have the syllables broken down. Overall, this story does a good informing sharks, their prey, what they do, and how to help keep sharks safe.
Amazing sharks is an informational book about sharks. It shows realistic photographs of sharks and is very informative. It is an "I can read level 2 book" but can be shared with Pre-K children to expand an ocean topic.
This book was interesting to me. The story introduces beginner readers about different types of sharks such as the great white and whale shark. It also introduces new words such as prey and predator to expand the child's vocabulary.
This an excellent book for young readers especially for those who are interested in sharks. The pictures in this book are very detailed. It is a very informative book about the many kinds of sharks in the ocean.
This book is one to add to my science collection. You can discuss sharks in detail. You can also use this to discuss ocean animals. The kids in my class are fascinated by sharks and it would definitely keep their attention.
This book is great for shark week in the classroom. Ever since the baby shark song came out, young children seem to be interested in sharks. This book would be great for the science center!
This is an informational book that gives all sort of facts about sharks. It provides nice illustration and helps with the pronunciation of vocab terms. This is a great book for small group explicit instruction with reading.
This is an awesome beginner book for children who are interested in sharks, or a great book to help a child with a project about sharks. The photos are taken up close so the reader has a picture to compare the text to. The book is filled with facts about sharks; including about their teeth, reproduction, how they find prey, and how humans are hurting their habitats. It also discusses the importance of sharks in the ocean, and how trash and other things hurt the sharks and can possibly kill their babies. My daughter absolutely loves this book! I would recommend this for developing readers as well as a book to help with a book report, or for pure enjoyment.
Granted, this book was sponsored by the Wildlife Conservation Society, but it was a little too preachy without enough informative content. I actually agree with the principles in this book, but instead of telling me that we need to save the sharks, I would have liked to see more about what make them interesting creatures, critical to their ecosystem and what is causing their demise. Why not teach me more about sharks and let me draw my own conclusions as to why we need to save them. This book is just a little too abrasive for my taste.
This easy reader is definitely more difficult the pages are filled with text and there are pictures that go along with the text. I looked at this because I wanted to see what an informational Easy reader looked like. This had information on how to pronounce some of the words as well as what words sound similar to the word they were introducing. The book did not have a glossary or index.
Not a huge fan of sharks, but it's Shark Week, so I didn't have a choice on the theme, so I had to read a bunch of books with sharks. Surprisingly, I found this one to be pretty interesting. It does a good job of describing a variety of interesting sharks, but I think my personal favorite is the Cookie Cutter Shark. So unique! Honestly, it gave me a much greater appreciation for sharks, and I do feel like our conservation efforts should be increased. So I guess it did its job. :)
This book is very informative. The reader can look at the pictures and see the type of shark the author is referring to. This book also provides the pronunciation of words that the reader may not be familiar with. If students are interested in sharks, they can read this book during free reading time. Students can be creative and make a fictional story with the information provided in the text.
This is my sole individual debatable, opinionated, non-verified, non-official review. My non-official review is not intended to influence other book readers or future sales of the book, my non-official review is based upon my own thoughts of the book. Some beautiful photographs in this book of sharks, much work gone into capturing such images, a book I rate very highly.
