A great introduction to the special theory of relativity for beginners. The theory is presented in the form of simple thought experiments which uses simple mathematics which makes it very accessible. Not suitable for a serious study of relativity (as the mathematical tools necessary to use STR are not mentioned), but a great place to start.

Sin duda una maravilla de libro de divulgación científica, explicando los conceptos con metáforas, ilustraciones y un estilo muy sencillos que no necesitan mucha base de conocimiento en física.
Libro muy cortito que puede ayudar a entender las teorías en qué de sustentan películas como Interestelar o cualquier obra que hable de que "el tiempo es relativo".

Στο βιβλίο ο Λαντάου κάνει ορισμένες εύστοχες εισαγωγικές παρατηρήσεις για τη σχετικότητα, απαραίτητες για ένα ακροθιγές ξεσκαρτάρισμα των γνώσεων του εκάστοτε αναγνώστη. Μεταξύ άλλων, η απομυθοποίηση της "κοινής" λογικής στη φυσική και των διαφόρων αυθαίρετων θεωρητικών συμπερασμάτων στα οποία αυτή μας έχει οδηγήσει ανά τους αιώνες, όπως και η έμφαση στον καθοριστικό ρόλο των μεταβλητών και των σταθερών κατά τη διατύπωση/θεμελίωση των εν λόγω συμπερασμάτων. Εξαιρουμένων όμως αυτών των λίγων προκαταρκτικών, ας πούμε, διευκρινίσεων το κείμενο ήταν ανεπαρκές. Εμφανώς ο συγγραφέας επιχείρησε να κάνει την έννοια της σχετικότητας όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερο προσεγγίσιμη, εύπεπτη, απτή, επιταχύνοντας και δρασκελίζοντας συλλογισμούς στο μεταξύ. Έτσι όμως, δεν τέθηκαν σωστά τα θεωρητικά θεμέλια και το βιβλίο έχασε σε αποδεικτική ισχύ. Σε τελική ανάλυση, έρχεται να τροφοδοτήσει (αν όχι επαληθεύσει) την πεποίθησή μου ότι όποιο βιβλίο επιχειρεί να αναλύσει ένα θέμα "περιληπτικά" δε βοηθάει επί της ουσίας.

Although sometimes a bit too young in tone, this book is a great gateway to the brilliance of the STR. I was presented with this book as a voluntary read for my physics class. I don't think that was a good recommendation. If you actually want to study physics and dig deeper into this topic, try anything else.
However, knowing this book's primary purpose was to show STR to the broader public, it did a great job. It explained such a complicated and fascinating idea in a simple and enjoyable way.

I WOULD HONESTLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE, who is curious about the world and wants to find out more about how it works.

A book that I found on my grandmother‘s bookshelf and read because I was bored at the time. That was a good decision. I loved reading it because the author broke down an unintuitive concept, into very relatable and easily understandable parts. Furthermore, the concept was not only explained but also presented in chronological order, showing how scientists successively came to understand that many earlier truths are, in fact, only relative.

Una muy entretenida, fácil de digerir (la mayor parte del tiempo) y lúdica forma de introducirse en los fundamentos más básicos de la teoría de la relatividad. Lo único que me faltó, quizás, fue que la evolución de los planteamientos de la Física Clásica a la Física Relativista hubieran estado situados históricamente de manera más explícita, ya que solo se presentan como teoría, medio desconectada de su contexto de producción.
Aún así, no deja de ser una buena lectura para devorarse en una tarde relajada.

It started from very basic ideas about everyday life, little boring at first, and gradually developed the fundamental aspects of nature which often escapes from our day-to-day experiences. explica de manera adecuada como funciona la teoria de la relatividad sin ponerse demasiado teorico y de una forma en la que la mayoria de la gente puede entender, ademas de que me gusta mucho como intenta que veamos diferentes puntos de vista y de como debemos pensar mas fuera de la caja.
