Distant Fairy Tales #2

Caught by the Hunter

Rate this book
An accidental meeting leads to a connection that will last forever... if they ever meet again.

Ejected from her home, Nyna is forced to run across the city to her grandmother’s house. If she had known it was the night of her first heat, she might have jumped into the sewers instead of trying to outrun the huntsmen of the Overlord of Y’tel.
Trapped in a colony city, she runs as fast as she can wearing her red cloak. The canine heads of the Lyron hunters focus on her, but they are waiting for the bell that lets them hunt. She hates that damned bell.
Sornoth sees the flicker of red, catches her scent, and waits impatiently, quickly beating the fellow huntsmen who would have pursued her before he chases after her himself.
When he catches her, the taste of her burns itself into his brain, and after he marks her, he sends her on to her destination.
It will be two and a half years before they meet again, and when he meets his son for the first time, things change.

A cute spin on the Alpha/Omega pairing, there were a few different tropes mingling in this one, with the main one being the Alpha and unacknowledged Omega. There was the mashed up retold fairy tale thing, beginning with a Cinderella kind of vibe and merging with Red Riding Hood going to the safety of grandmother's cottage, major curveball comes when it is anything BUT a safe place for Naya. There was definitely a lot going on in this little story, it will definitely hold your interest, but mostly, it was fun to read. There is definitely some spicy action going on. The only drawback that I found was the verbosity of some of the descriptions and some repetitiveness. I skimmed a little in the middle, but I never wanted to walk away from the story. I either loved or hated some characters, but through it all, Naya finds a way to come out on top, so we do get a HEA.

A very erotic version of Red Riding Hood

Going into this book I had no idea what to expect. I had never read anything by this author and was going in simply based on the blurb. I've always loved the tale of Red Riding Hood and this story did not disappoint.

Although it takes place on a distant alien planet, it did not have an overly sci-fi vibe. It's really the story of one young girl, cast out by her family, who takes the hardships dealt to her and prospers. The "wolves" in this story are actually an alien form of shapeshifters and warriors. They allowed the humans to settle on their world in exchange for the right to breed with them. Caught out after curfew on her way to escape to her grandparents home, Nyna is caught by the son of the Overlord, a huntsman, who takes her body in exchange for helping her to avoid the other hunters. When she discovers that she is pregnant, Nyna is once again forced to flee from her family that would have her terminate the child, all the while unaware that Sornoth, her mystery huntsman, is looking for her. When he is called to active military duty it will be almost two years before he returns to claim what he left behind. During this time Nyna has matured into a strong, independent woman and when they are once again together their chemistry is off the charts.

Although Nyna isn't given much in the way of options when Sornoth first catches her, it doesn't feel forced or non con. If not love, it's certainly a case of lust at first sight, and Nyna never expresses any regret or negativity towards her joining with Sornoth. In fact, he is quite surprised that she hasn't tried to bad mouth with their son - evidenced by the boy quickly dubbing him "Papa"! I loved that Nyna is feisty and strong and she doesn't let herself be overtly pushed around. She willingly conforms to what her status requires of her as the human mate, but there's never any resentment or bias. That she is a bit badass is humorous and endearing. Sornoth is not portrayed as arrogant or superior, as many Alphas are. He genuinely desires Nyna, body and heart, and strives to step into his role as her mate, without squelching her indomitable spirit.

I absolutely loved this book! The characters are well written and the world building is superb. There are engaging side characters and the whole feeling of the story is upbeat, engaging, adventurous and 🔥🔥! I'm going to go back and pick up the first book in this series and I look forward to other books after this. A truly wonderful read!

First review/book of 2022!

I much liked book 2 over book 1. In its most basic summary, it is an erotic, space age version of Red Riding Hood.

Towards the last quarter of the book, I started getting bored as we seemed to be in a rut of repetition with Nyna+Sornoth's actions. I couldn't for the life of me picture the dance/fight scenes. I kept conjuring capoiera moves mixed with star wars moves mixed with martial art moves. Then Nyna saved herself. That was the best scene in the book, non-smut wise.

This story had way more smut/sex scenes than book 1. Azzul+Keva make a cameo towards the end. I preferred book 1 illustrations over the ones for book 2 though.

In short, enjoyed my first book of 2022. Made my working day go by much faster and I am looking forward to reading more from VG/ZM as well as more from this series.

The big bad wolf meets his Cinderella in a red cape

Nyna is forced from her home by her mother just before curfew knowing her chance at out running Lyron Hunters was unlikely. Just before she reaches her grandparents home she is captured.
Sornoth has caught the little human with the intriguing sent. When she chooses him over jail, he marks her and lets her go. She disappears before he can claim her.
Nyna, had to run to protect her half breed child. Her mate has found her. Sorn won't let her escape again.
A, fun, faced paced, and steamy Red Riding hood, Cinderella, story where the big bad wolf, is also a handsome prince.
Loved Sorn and Nyna's story. Loved Sorn's dad. A great epilogue to wrap up their story. Hoping for more Lyron stories.

As a typical VG read, there's a questionable first meeting followed by formation of a deep, loving relationship. This was a sweet ABO world where humans have been permitted to settle on a planet ruled by shapeshifters. Both general human stubbornness/culture and Lyron traditions have major roles in the story and result in a captivating story.

Another six star story

I really like this story line. How every it feels as if the story arc is complete. Anything other would only be more sex. Perhaps the adventure of the brother and sister? 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Cute story, I do like that the author didn’t make the female lead a simpering, indecisive, fool as so many authors tend to do.

Red Riding Hood in Space

Different and unexpected. I enjoyed reading this book as it took a new angle on the old nursery tale and the humans were the aliens this time.
