Craig was cracking at every seam and approaching a mental breakdown fast, that is until Beelzebub saved him from such a fate. Indebted, the social worker must find people with corrupted souls, so Satan can exorcise and collect their inner demons that lurk within. To add devilish fun to the task, Craig must choose his targets by drawing an inverted crucifix inside their home with one of two colours. Red, they live, and the Lord of Darkness steals the evil from their souls, letting them go free to live their new lives. If he chooses black, they are exorcised and then feasted on alive. It should be an easy decision, as his job is to protect lives… right ?
Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always been fascinated by the villain. They always seemed to dress so damn smooth, have badass weaponry, wanted to change the world, and took no s*** from no one. The fact that they were all so cool, negated the fact that they were constantly losing. Also, they never gave up on the crazy s*** they believed in, even though they'd get whooped in the most humiliating of ways. They'd keep coming back with some insane new plan and give it another go. That admiration has still stuck with me when it has come to the stories I love, ones about badass and persistent losers with crazy f***ing ideas. So, that is what I try to write.

What happens when a social worker at the end of his rope gets saved by the devil? Making a deal with the Devil is never a good bargain, and having the devil as your employer, is even worse. Set with the task of marking souls to be harvested or to be released for the devil this man has to take a hard look at his life that of those around him and make his peace with how our society views those he has sworn to protect. I found this book to be pretty interesting even if it's just for the commentary upon our society nowadays. The author had a good writing style which made it easier to Lose Yourself within the story and care about the characters. I really liked the main man him being a social worker really showcased how much stress they are under everyday and a pressure did they have to live with.
You could read it just as a dark comedy, but it is so much more than that. The author was a social worker in his past, and coming from a family whose parents decided to foster children, I could really tell and I related to so much - Social Work Targets V Child Welfare: sadly, there is no contest, paperwork and targets trumps child welfare every time.
As someone who works in this area I felt like Louis was writing my daily office routine and the people I work with! I loved the idea, the story line and I loved Beelzebub, great character. I hope there’s more books like this.
