Lacey's attempt to get a bank loan for her dream restaurant ends up making her feel like she's doomed to failure and poverty.
Enter Garrett Halifax, her roommate's handsome and just a bit stuffy, Harvard-educated brother.
When he offers to help Lacey clean up her appearance and speech to impress future bank managers, she jumps at the chance. With a little help, she's sure she can transform herself.
Caterpillars make transformation seem way too easy.
Lacey makes mistake after mistake. And perhaps the biggest mistake is falling for sexy Garret.
You won't want to miss this fun romantic comedy! (And yes, it's Happily Ever After because that's how My Fair Lady should have ended.)
If you loved My Fair Lady but didn’t love the fact that Professor Higgins was, you know, less than an ideal romantic hero, you’re going to be happy that you read this sweet, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy!
Janette Rallison has five children who keep her well supplied with plot ideas, sometimes even making cameo appearances in her novels. She likes to write romantic comedy because there is enough angst in real life, but theres a drastic shortage on both humor and romance.
Playing the Field was named Society of School Librarians International Best Book Award Honor Book, and both Alls Fair In Love, War, and High School and Love, Life, and the Pursuit of Free Throws were included on YALSAs Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults list. Fame Glory, and Other Things on My To Do List, was just chosen for IRAs YA Choices list for 2007
This story was super fun, sweet, and cute. I loved Lacey and her spunk. Her and Garrett together just made sense, you know? I love when that happens in books. I can't wait to find out what happens with Jojo and her terrible boyfriend. 😉
All she wants to do is open a restaurant But she has to get a loan first. And the banker turns her down. Now what?? A “friend” agrees to help her — but he wants to remake her!!! UGH!! And yet she agrees because she really wants to open the restaurant — for herself and her family. This book is totally unexpected and a great story!!! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.
I was really excited to read this novella as I have read a couple of other things by Janette Rallison that I thoroughly enjoyed. This was a good read and had a a bit of everything, a sweet but at times cheesy love story line with a dash of humour and comedy.
The story was cute and fun as it followed Lacey and her ambition to start her own restaurant. However, she lacked the social repertoire and appeal to get a bank loan. In walks the hero of the day, Garett. His overriding mission to help Lacey secure her dreams, with a hope of some romance along the way perhaps.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and provided some much needed escapism. However, the formatting throughout the Kindle books was atrocious at times to say the least. This did detracted me from the story and reduced my enjoyment. The Kindle appeared not to have used a standard font and had different text sizes dotted about.
In addition to the above, I had the impression perhaps there was a follow up to this novella, 'A Perfect Fit' however, after searching for it I cannot find a record. I would of loved to have seen how the story might have been tied up, as although the story was concluded, I did feel there were some loose ends.
While the story was decent, the formatting of the ebook that I read was atrocious. It used a non standard font, had different text sizes for some sections and sometimes some words or even whole paragraphs where a different font size again, which made it a chore to read sometimes. If the book formatting had worked it would probably have been a 4 star.
This was a cute and entertaining read! It was the first book I've read by this author, but it won't be the last - I already have a couple more on my TBR. :)
The way the main character spoke and the storyline was super cheesy. But, I forgot it was based off the movie. I’m sad it didn’t wrap up more and I have to get the next book.
This storyline will just make you smile. A woman who wants to open her own restaurant meets up with someone who knows how to make it happen… RECOMMENDED.
Lacey and Garrett work well together. With her amazing personality and people skills, updating her grammar only made her more, made her even better. I'm glad Garrett saw that and only helped her become a better version of herself. Look at how many people loved her and stood up for her when it mattered?! And at least she didn't have to bring Garrett his slippers to get him to notice her!!
