His Lethal Desire

Rate this book
There’s nothing more lethal than a hitman in love.

Johnny “Jack” Jacopo was once the Castellani Family’s top hitman, but one terrible mistake saw him kicked back down the ladder. So when the Boss orders him to look into the disappearance of a Hollywood starlet, Jack sees an opportunity to rise back up the Family ranks.

His first move is to question the missing actress’s twin brother. Miller Beaumont is charming, gorgeous, flirty…and he’s the same guy who was hitting on Jack in a bar the night before.

Jack tries to keep things strictly business, but Miller has access to inside information that Jack needs to solve the case. And it’s just too tempting when Miller proposes that they team up to find his sister.

As their search leads them into danger, Jack finds he has more to lose than he ever expected. Someone is coming after Miller, and Jack finds himself torn between duty to his Family and his own foolish heart.

Because despite himself, Jack is making one more mistake, the biggest of them all, the one dumb thing he swore he’d never do.

He’s falling in love.

Leighton Greene has been writing stories since she was old enough to hold a pencil. Her first book was a choose-your-own-adventure style book about deciding what to eat for breakfast. It didn't shake the New York Times bestseller list, but she still has a copy of it.

After spending some time writing in academia, fanfiction and corporate reporting, Leighton decided she should probably do what she actually wanted to do, which was to write commercial fiction. So she did. She writes gay romance and, when the mood strikes, erotica as L.J. Greene.

Leighton lives with her partner and her cockatiel on the east coast of Australia.

His Lethal Desire is a great mafia mystery/romance between a jaded mafia hitman, Jack, trying to climb his way back into the good graces of his boss, without becoming too distracted by the pretty face at the local bar. Unbeknownst to Jack the man taking away all his attention, Miller is the twin of his person of interest.

Miller and Jack have an instant connection that is only complicated more due to Jack's mafia affiliations, but regardless of all his concerns he cannot ignore all of the feelings that are growing at such a fast pace.

Overall His Lethal Desire is a fast moving mystery that sets up so many different dynamics between members of the Castellani Family, which leaves so many storylines left hanging. I enjoyed this story so much and cannot wait for the next one.

I stared at myself in the mirror, my thoughts so tangled up that I couldn't even tell what emotion I was feeling. "JJ," I said, trying to slow my breath. "JJ." I said his name like a mantra, and then I thought about him kissing me...

well that took me a long ass time to finish this. not because it was the worst (but it wasn't best either) read but more of that fact that i got myself so busy playing video games nonstop. as for the story, i kinda liked it. there was this huge mystery about the disappearance of this hollywood star and for some reason one of the los angeles mobs aka the castellanis took interest in it. the story was never boring as we follow the main characters sleuthing their way through the said mystery. the morellis in the original series were good but these castellanis are definitely something. after what happened in the end, i'm fucking excited for allesandro's story!

Ok, first off I feel I need to say I loved the previous mob series. In the last book of that series, we were introduced to Jack. We didn’t get his full backstory until now.

His boss Ciro gave him the task of finding Annie. That led him to Miller. Miller was Annie’s twin brother. Annie, however, was the opposite of Miller AND was a VERY unsympathetic character. By the end of the 110k+ book you really learn to loathe her. It was a HUGE minus to the book. Plus, ngl, this book was WAY too long. It needed serious editing because by the end, I was very milquetoast on the whole plot. I really didn’t care. It was all very meh. It was pretty disappointing since I loved the previous series so much but Miller and Jack are DEFINITELY no Finch and Luca.

You get to the end and it just seemed like an epic waste of time. Book 1 is supposed to make you want to read book 2 but if it’s over 112k. I’ll pass. Too much filler not enough emotional connection with any of the characters. Pretty much a polar opposite of what I felt about the previous series which was done so well. I had high hopes 😏. Maybe that’s why I’m so bitterly disappointed in this book 1.

My first time reading a book by this author and I have to say, I’ve become a fan.

Clever writing and memorable characters ensured my attention was stuck-on throughout.

Altogether, His Lethal Desire was a great read that I found particularly enjoyable. It was a well-crafted integration of modern mysterious elements and dramatic practicality which made reading this book easy. Jack makes a great but complex central character, especially as part of the mafia. His wit, emotional vulnerability, investigative nature and fierce protectiveness over Miller create a fascinating personality to follow and root for. Moreover, I found this well-paced read to be nicely devised. It moved at a reasonable pace and kept the story enticing.

The sex was smoking hot and their passion and chemistry came through nicely... 🔥🔥

Creatively varied characters added compelling depth to the story. A wonderful job maintaining the unexpected budding romance between Jack and Miller. Their relationship comes across as natural and not overly rushed which was definitely refreshing.

Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommended... 💙💙

This spin off series is off to a great start. The romance between our mob hitman Jacopo and Hollywood ex-childstar Miller is sizzling hot. The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Miller's sister keep me guessing and thirsting for the truth to unfold.

“Trouble follows me around, and it’s not always the nice kind, like you.”

3.5 stars. A really good, if not amazing, start to the series. This has become like brain candy to me; I find these books so easy to read and so easy to get lost in. The Morelli series tied up very nicely, and I loved that we got a sneak peak into some of the characters that will star in this one. Which is part of why I started this earlier than I thought I would. I really enjoy Jack as a character; he's a mix of deadly mobster and gumshoe detective that actually really works as a character model. It's so fun to me. That fuckin hat...

After a deadly mistake years ago, Jack was demoted to foot soldier, but has a chance to climb the ranks again after his boss singles him out to find a missing actress. Miller is the actress' twin brother, and he and Jack have been eyeing each other for weeks, and finally have a connection at the start of the book. Their chemistry wasn't the most believably written, or my favourite across the books, but I liked them both so much as characters that I allowed myself to be swept away by the story, even if I wasn't 1000% convinced of the romance. Miller has no connections to the Mafia, and the fact that there was little to no internal conflict surrounding that was a relief to me, but it also felt kind of weird that he's NOT more conflicted about it? IDK. But still, they were really cute, lots of great snarky banter, and I love that Miller has Jack whipped in like 2.5 seconds. The mystery/suspense aspect was good (not particularly difficult to figure out, but entertaining) and there were a few good action scenes. And no matter how insta-love her books are, Greene just has the magic touch that makes me completely smitten with the characters by the end. That's talent.

On to the next! I have to say, I'm a little impatient for Julian's book; he's SO interesting as a character, and while he's obviously not.. great... it does hurt a little, just how much all the people around him don't care about him. Can't wait for him to get an HEA.

This was the memory I’d take into death with me, if I saw that bullet coming.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

His Lethal Desire is the first book in a new series featuring Jack, a mafia hitman, the family he works for, and then the man he will fall in love with. We get introduced to both characters at a good pace and we learn a little about where Jack is in his life and then how Miller fits in.

The men are opposites in that Jack is a killer for hire bound to a mob family and Miller is a wealthy former child star with not much direction in his life. The men have seen each other at the local bar over many nights and finally have an encounter, but Jack knows he can’t have anything good in his life, especially not someone as good and sweet as Miller. Being tied to Jack is dangerous and Jack has no intention of putting a target on anyone else, but he can’t resist Miller.

This was so much fun!! It's a mafia romance AND a murder mystery, very excellently paced without a dull moment. We've got an opposites attract age gap romance between Jack (a hitman and mafioso, very tough and macho, with a tortured past) and Miller (who is so twinky, gay, and horny that it was HILARIOUS. Honestly I loved Miller so much lmao) who's an ex-child actor and current idle rich Hollywood party boy.

When Miller's actress sister goes missing, Jack is hired to investigate. They work together, fall in love, and discover some very dark mob secrets...

There were a lot of very hot smut scenes and even though they fall for each other very fast, they clearly love each other, and one scene made me go "awww"

I'm excited to dive into this author's other books because I had a great time and her writing is really promising.

Brilliant new series from this outstanding author, she’s definitely a go to for me without a doubt.
Wonderful writing and a pleasure to read.
Leighton always gives everything in her characters, this is no exception.
These two have their work cut out for them but it looks like they were made for each other.
Tense, passionate, violent in places . This is a must for all M/M and Mafia fans .

Jack & Miller

This story was an adventure and a half. The mystery kept me on my toes and kept me guessing, even when I thought I'd understood what was going to happen. It was a bit of a slow start, but that was just a great time for me to re-familiarize myself with Jacopo and get to know Miller. I loved the silly and somewhat immature interactions that the two have as they move along until things get far more intense. I didn't necessarily enjoy some of the drama that comes into Miller's life, but I did enjoy how the story evolves and is eventually resolved. It was a nailbiter almost right to the end.

I also loved how supportive Jack and seemingly everyone else is about Miller's art. It's its own side character because of how it plays in the story, but it's a fun little bit about Miller that adds to his personality and eccentricity.

His Lethal Desire was an interesting book to start out (for me) the newer West Coast Mobsters series. I'm curious how the stories will continue to be fresh and different from the other mafia series as this one continues.

Audiobook Update:
Narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo

After listening to the Morelli Family series from the same narrator, I was very familiar with how he presents his take on the story and I was drawn in immediately. Michael has such a smooth voice that it works very well for Leighton Greene's mafia world.

I received an authorized copy of this audiobook and am volunteering my honest review.

Jack and Miller ❤️

Well, it official ....I am hooked on this new series.... In typical fashion Leighton Greene knocked another mafia book out of the stratosphere!!!!

This one wasn't nearly as violent or intense as previous books but didn't lack anything story or plot wise, I felt it was a great lead into this series...it was perfection!! What can I say, Jack Jacopo...cold blooded mafioso hitman with a hard exterior and a cold dead heart??? Not so fast....Enter Hollywood party boy Miller to melt down that cold exterior and find the heart of a lion made of gold after the unlikely partnership trying to solve a murder and unearthing mysteries along the way ❤️ they were from completely different worlds but were so perfect for each other!!! I freakin' adored these two together, they were funny...extremely sexy 🔥 and so meant for each other...one feeling unworthy of love and the other seeking love his whole life ❤️❤️❤️ chef's kiss 💋. The side characters were great and I can wait for the next books!!! I am on to the next read, a sexy short about Freddy and Nate and need Saudro's book like yesterday!!! I would 100% recommend this!!!

We start of this story with the gritty life of Jack. He is a tough and gorgeous bad boy of the Mafia but my favorite part about him is the amusing little personality quirks we get to see as readers. The eating Froot Loops and driving an old pinto where just the beginning! He meets Miller and well Kisses him! Again, out of place for him!! They meet again as Miller is related to an investigation Jack is involved in. Miller is so young and flirty and a little bit reckless. Jack did not stand a chance. The chemistry with these two is hot. I read an arc and this one gives you mystery, an age gap and quite a bit of unique fun with both of their personalities. A dark and descriptive world is built with new interesting characters, and I cannot wait for book two!

His Lethal Desire is the first book in a new series, West Coast Mobsters. Seriously good!! This story hooked me and didn’t let me go, so engaging! Jack is somewhat jaded. He’s been knocked down a peg or two in the Castellani crime family and would like nothing more than to rise back up. He is ordered to look into a missing Hollywood starlet’s disappearance. Miller is the twin sister of the missing starlet and the man who was hitting on Jack the night before. Jack and Miller have an instant connection and undeniable chemistry! This was fast paced and well written and seriously fantastic! Overall, an outstanding read with a great mafia mystery romance element. Highly recommend.

Miller and Jack don't start off with a traditional relationship but the results are great in the end. I knew from the first chapter that I was going to enjoy this book and I wasn't disappointed. Jack is a hitman and is tasked with finding Jack's sister. The book has so many twists and turns that you don't know who to believe. These two have an instant attraction but Jack doesn't act on it the first time they meet. Legal Desire is an action pack, mysterious, witty, and funny book. Teh moment I started reading it I couldn't put it down and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

While looking into a Hollywood actress’s mysterious disappearance, hit man Jack goes to question her gorgeous twin brother, Miller. As they join forces in the search for answers, it’s hard to keep things strictly professional.

I loved this story with the two men who were caught in the mystery of where Miller's sister had gone. Their connection was explosive and full of passion. I loved the drama and danger around them from the mob and the politics around that. Lots of emotions and feelings from them both. This was an MM story with mature content.

This reminds me a lot of the classic PI stories with Jack, the disgraced hitman functioning in the Sam Spade role and Miller as the love interest with a secret. Jack is sent to find Miller's missing sister and it turns out Miller is in danger too. These two must work together for three reasons, Miller has information Jack needs, these two have a chemistry that neither can deny and Miller is also in danger and Jack goes into full protector mode. The tone and the mystery are fantastic and the characters make a perfect couple.

Leighton Greene……..I love you.

Look, after just reading a poor attempt at a mafia romance, starting this new series was like taking a sip of cold water after running in the desert all day.

This author just gets it. Hard and soft, angst and fluff, dominance and reverence. She captures it all.

I can’t wait for the next one, and highly recommend anyone new to this author to start at the beginning of her mob series with Finch and Luca.

It only gets better from there!

Not crazy at all about the style of writing and storytelling in this book felt like I was reading something from literary noir or written in the style of Dashiell Hammett; neither of which I like so I really struggled to finish this one. Shame really because I very much liked the previous crime/mafia family series this one is loosely tied to. Not sure I'll bother reading the next in this series if there is one especially if it is in the same writing style.

Action, intrigue, complicated characters and steamy connections.  This is an engrossing read that will keep you reading from cover to cover.  I enjoyed the story-line and the characters were well done.  We have some really interesting supporting characters that i cannot wait to hear more about.

Jack and Miller are both complex and intense men and I found their journey to a relationship interesting and heartwarming.  I really enjoyed them together.

This is book one of the West Coast Mobsters series and i have already pre-ordered book two.  I am so looking forward to the continuation of this story.

I was gifted this book from Gay Romance Reviews and i freely give my honest opinion and review.

Five stars for the mystery plot. Three stars for the romance. Two stars for picking “Miller” as a FIRST name.

That should probably average out closer to three, but I’m giving bonus points for whatever the fuck is going on with Jack’s hat.

Intricate story that kept one guessing. Love. Hate. Intrigue. Warped sense of honor. I want more of these two complex characters.

Ooh this one was a lot of fun! I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the blurb – in fact, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read it from the blurb, but something about it got to me so I thought I would give it a go and I am so pleased that I did!

This book was fun, sometimes scary, the mystery was seriously like watching a film noir, and majorly sexy! I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t bring myself to put it down – I kept promising just one more chapter and then flying past that marker!

Jack sounds absolutely divine – especially with his pale blue eyes and the way he’s described – just completely yummy! Initially he fulfilled every mafia stereotype I could think of and came across as a bit of a thug, but the more I read, the more I fell in love with him. He was just so loyal and upfront, as well as wisecracking! The image of him driving around in a Pinto made me smile for ages!

And Miller – he surprised me more than once. Yes, he got himself into a couple of issues in not doing as he was told, but he was also intelligent enough to know when he was out of his depth. Miller was a softy for the people he loved, always willing to put them first and often to his detriment. And he didn’t deserve to be treated the way he was by the people that he loved.

The background characters were fascinating in their own way as well – Sandro made my heart break just a little; Freddy is the man to have at your back. And I must admit, I have a bit of a soft-spot for Julian – just because he sounds so completely and utterly insane, and I kinda hope he gets his own story.

Probably nowhere near as dark as some might expect a mafia story to be, I nevertheless found it engrossing, entertaining and a big hit. I will definitely be looking out for more on the West Coast mobsters. 4.5/5 from me, happily rounded up to 5!

I received an ARC from GRR.

Jack and Miller have tons of chemistry, and it carries the story through lots of twists, turns (think old school noir with some modern touches) and mysteries. This book sets the stage for more West Coast Mobsters stories to come, but laying that groundwork doesn’t detract from the plot at hand or the protagonists. I liked Miller (his sister, not so much, but that’s a different discussion) and loved Jack, who manages to be dangerous and quirky and driven, all at the same time. There’s heat, danger, and plenty to invest in as the story goes on, and it’s well worth a read. 4.5 stars.

I won’t be finishing this book. It is a disappointing read after enjoying and connecting with the Morelli Family series. I didn’t care for the character of Jacopo in the book that introduced him. He came off as odd. The characters in his world do not have the charisma of Luca D’Amato and Finch Donovan and their family. I found them self absorbed and alienating.

This is the first book from Leighton Green that i unfortunately didn't like.

I wasn't interested in the story and had to force myself to finish this when I wanted to DNF it twice and came really close. The thing is, I know in the author's mafia series that it's best if you read all of the books in order. So I did. I would highly recommend you start with the other mafia series she has written if this is your first look into author Leighton Green'a work.

The Morelli Family Series, the entire world the author creates with her mafia series starts there. I strongly suggest that you read Married To The Mobster first.

Then, in the last book of that series we meet the one of main characters in this book, Jack. Officially Johnny Jacopo.

So this is what I didn't like about the book. Johnny aka JJ or Jack is kind if a depressed downer the entire book. He feels like he made some big mistake in his past surrounding the Castilli Family who he is working for. Due to his guilt, he stayed in the Castelli Mafia "Family" and allowed himself to be demoted and treated like garbage by his fellow mobsters. It's not a huge issue of bully or anything, I just mention that to say, he's highly depressed and always sulking and it's a huge reason, probably 50% of why I didn't like this book.

I didn't like that the Main mafia character was a loser and thought of himself as one. I prefer my mafia males to be obviously hot but also, rugged, ready to those down and cocky. He was neither of those things although I'll give it to him that he did save the other MC Miller a bunch of times.

Basically there is a huge mystery in this book that Jack has to solve. Miller also gets involved and they end up working together to solve the issue. So it's a very suspenseful book but lacked the romance I need to love a romance novel.

I didn't feel a connection or any love between these two MCs. I would have loved more passion, more angst, more anything regarding that type of heart warming emotion that makes you love a book.

It just wasn't for me at all. I felt frustrated but I am highly excited for the next book and I have loved MOST of the author's books.

I didn't like one of the books in the Morelli Series that much so I'm hoping this is just a fluke and I'll love Sandro's story because I was into him without even knowing too much about him.

Still, Leighton planted the seeds. And they are very delicious, dark and dangerous seeds! Just the kind I love. I have a feeling that in the next book I'm going to fall in love with Santo. He's got that BDE that I love in my mafia MCs!
