When with the right people, even mundane daily activities can be special. Shikimori and Izumi have a nice date by staying in and watching TV. A serendipitous encounter while out shopping leads to Shikimori and Izumi's mothers meeting and becoming fast friends! A fun kite-making get-together with the gang leads to a chance meeting with Inuzuka's work senpai, which in turn leads to a wonderful visit to a stylish cafe. Whether in class, sharing a textbook, making a new year's visit to the temple, or on a date at the zoo, Izumi and Shikimori cherish the time they have together and continue to strengthen their bond.
Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie, Vol. 8 (My Kindle Review)
The new year is here and we see Izumi and Shikimori find some luck while their moms hang out. We also meet someone new, the playful and feisty Isana who happens to be a coworker of Inuzuka’s and looks a lot like Izumi. Later, they group up for their class trip to Kyoto and get a sixth member with a shy student. A (100%/Outstanding)
Shikimori’s mom’s not just a cutie? Yes, a random meeting of the moms occurs at last. Shikimori and Izumi decide to stay in and watch a movie together, a barista invades somebody’s space, and the shrine is an excuse to be sweet.
Ugh, this series. Why must it be so good? Once these two have their hooks in you they drive ‘em in deep. So, naturally, be prepared for even more gushing about one of my favourite couples in manga history.
Is one of them better than the other? Only in the sense that Izumi is a total klutz who can’t walk across the room without falling over. In any other sense of the word they compliment one another beautifully and this volume is full of moments between them.
In fact, the movie date at home is a wonderful example of how Izumi’s softer side is such an important part of their relationship. When he loses it at a sad movie, his free-flowing tears let Shikimori know that it’s totally okay for her to show what she’s feeling inside. It’s so sweet.
Then the moms meet in the most Shikimori way possible and, while Izumi’s mom is nervous, the two of them get on like a house on fire. There’s a really tender moment between them at the end as they bond over what they’re both gaining and losing that’s memorably poignant.
There’s also a hilariously heated moment in the school classroom that perfectly illustrates why you should not let people who are into one another try and do anything together. Sometimes a public shaming is earned and then some.
The one thing I don’t necessarily care for is the introduction of college student Isana, who works with Inuzuka at one of his jobs. Part of this does land nicely - Isana isn’t a terrible character and the whole thing gives some insight into Inuzuka that was pretty welcome; turns out he isn’t closed off, just not forthcoming.
Isana just looks a little too much like Kamiya for my liking in her design and she does pick on Shikimori a bit more than I think is necessary (poor Shikimori’s reactions though). She simply doesn’t need to exist (although she seems to have more designs on Inuzuka than he realizes), but she isn’t bad. Which is very damning with faint praise, far as I’m concerned (because it is).
The rest of the book sets up the next volume, minus Izumi getting a hilarious reminder that Shikimori is not one to just sit to the side and stay still. If she decides to improve, she is all over it and then some. The way they spur one another on is adorable.
4.5 stars - Isana aside, and she isn’t that bad, merely unnecessary, this is still just as sugary and satisfying as what came before it and another example of what this series does best: be itself.
This is definitely better on reread, but it wasn't as gripping as previous volumes. I definitely prefer seeing the whole gang hanging out together rather than just Izumi and Shikimori (still love their relationship though), so seeing the group do a cooking class and flying kites was cute. That's about it though, looking forward to the Kyoto trip!

Konnichiwa to all, readers🌸
Today I bring you the review of the eighth volume of "Shikimori is not just a cutie." That said, let's get started:
💕This volume begins with two transitional stories. In the first, the couple watches a movie at his house at the start of the year; in the second, they make their first visit of the year to the shrines, where they read their fortunes with predictable results.
💕The third plot of this volume presents the first meeting between the mothers of Shikimori and Izumi, a clash of personalities that, however, leads them to become friends and strengthens the relationship between their children.
The next chapter shows a transition where the group of friends decides to play childhood games, choosing to build and fly kites.
After a small incident with Shikimori's creation, Rika Isana, a coworker of Inuzuka, is introduced, with whom he has enough trust to call him by his first name.
💕Isana's arrival allows the gang to enjoy an elegant café, courtesy of the employee. The beauty of the waitress and her apparent romantic interest in him awaken Shikimori's jealous side, possibly due to Izumi's strong friendship with his coworker.
💕In the final chapters, we enjoy heartwarming moments. First, Izumi and Shikimori share a reading notebook in class, which leads them to grow fond of each other and get scolded by the teacher.
On their date at the zoo, the couple starts by observing adorable animals, like baby pandas and rabbits. However, when faced with a Bengal tiger, Shikimori feels intimidated by its roar, resulting in a comical expression from her.
In the last installment, we discover that Shikimori has taken cooking classes with her mother-in-law, achieving satisfactory results.
🌸Conclusion: This volume culminates with a school trip in its final comic strip, after exploring the typical narratives of the academic winter in Japan.
Shikimori’s mom and Izumi’s mom meet! They got along really well and are very happy that Miyako and Yuu are together! The gang is spending their new years together, they were flying a kite when it got lost, but it was found by Inuzuka’s friend, Isana, her senpai at work. We meet this new character, Isana, she has hopes and dreams and maybe life hasn’t been very easy on her. Let’s hope she can open her own coffee shop! I loved when Shikimori and Izumi went to the zoo, even if they weren’t able to see the baby panda, there were other animals, and we found out Shikimori is scared of tigers! This was such a fun volume, next we’ll see their trip to Kyoto! I’m really excited

Another adorable volume!! We get to see more of the friend group's day-to-day lives. Now that over a year has passed in the series, there are scenes that are repeating themselves, but with fun twists - for instance, Shikimori gets a chance to cook for Izumi again, but this time it turns out much better! The first scene where they watch TV together at Izumi's house and end up both falling asleep is tooooo cuuuute. I love seeing Izumi's mom reminiscing about her and his father's younger days together.
Love love love! (´꒳`)♡

This volume features new years festivities planning for an upcoming school trip and a cute movie date! I am still enjoying this series a lot and watching the anime as it airs!
Shikimori IS more than just a cutie! Time and again, she protects and encourages the boy she loves. As it turns out, both their mothers are total MILFs & while people always think Shikimori's mother is cold and glaring, it's just her normal expression. She's actually strikingly beautiful. Izumi's Mother is quite the hottie, too. Both mothers have become friends, and both realize Shikimori and Izumi are the best thing that's ever happened to the two high schoolers. They are a perfect couple. Shikimori almost exhibits an otherworldly knack for knowing when yet another bizarre (and sometimes painful) and odd event is about to occur to Izumi. This school-life, slice-of-life rom-com is just fantastic. I highly recommend it!
