A female prize I know I’m going to be claimed on the floor of the arena by a brutal alien gladiator, but does it have to be him?
The cocky Lizard King, a showman who seems to act like he enjoys this, parading and preening for the crowd?
The one with two penises?
But it is him, of course it is, and when he takes me, he’s some odd combination of cruel and considerate, and it’s good—stars, it’s good—it doesn’t have any right to be that good.
At least I know our species aren’t compatible. No matter what, we could never have offspring.
A ruined fighter This girl is different. I don’t know why. I don’t want it to be true, but there’s something about her.
When I have her in the ring, I hope my handler doesn’t notice. He’s the cruelest man I know, and he delights in manipulating me. But no way do I ever catch a break. So, when I climb aboard our ship, he’s got her there, all for me, he says.
He has plans for her, to alter her, make her breedable.
He’s just the sort of psycho to try to force that. It’ll be fun for him.
But I vow I will never touch her again.
This steamy scifi romance is for adventurous readers who won’t be troubled by very bad words, breeding kinks, murky consent due to chemically-induced arousal (everyone enjoys themselves, though, I swear), and dark themes as characters are pitted against oppressive, cruel alien overlords. HEA guaranteed.
A bit more of a 3.5 rating for me on this book and I want to say that I thought that this couple had a lot more...actual love/build up compared to the first book. There's still the gladiator lust thing with different alien bits in this - but despite that all I felt that the ML & FL were still really falling into love with each other. Again another highpoint for the author also putting all the CW without giving away plot as well which I enjoy. I do think though that this book in some ways felt....lighter though actually compared to the previous - and I don't mean the steam/plot.....but I think it actually may just be the fact that the ML & FL in this book CAN communicate to each other. The first book - has the couple not being able to for a while and having this silent dubcon (which I felt made it "darker") whereas in this the two leads are ...well it is a different form of dubcon - but they are at least talking to each other.
That being said - the biggest let down of the book was that it felt that near the halfway point and beyond - the author was in a rush to finish the book. There were so many descriptions or events that ended up happening in either sentences, or just narration through either ML or the FL's point of view. There were sentence location skips and a couple of the steam scenes after the halfway point just transition SO fast, I had to reread double take to make sure what was happening was actually happening. There was also the presence of a not love interest, but an old love interest of Brasck's that had an annoying scene which was Jalincs. I didn't really feel that putting that character in did anything to learn of Brasck's past and how he has changed.
I had a lot of questions on Brasck's future as a king - while also feeling that his whole story and main conflict got tidied up SUPER fast in the end. I did though like him as a male lead since he was as understanding and helpful he could be with Elodee.
The ending is finished super fast honestly - (Spoilers) like super fast since the moment Elodee left and blocked Brasck...that whole coming together back was a wild boomerang. After the makeup sex - the last chapter contains EVERYTHING; As in the pregnancy talk, the birth, Elodee's scales gone, but thinking of a next baby...but whatever they are happy and in love - the end. It was such a disappointment that it ended like that.
If you enjoy the previous book, such as the gladiator setting, the alien (yes alien) steam with different body parts and no cheating romance love - this was enjoyable for that. I do also like Brasck (and maybe Elodee) a whole lot more than Rowan, I thought he was more considerate than Rowan and didn't frustrate me at times in comparison. However again halfway through the book and beyond does get disappointing on the way everything is written out since it felt like it got sped up and details were suddenly lacking. I DO still want to read a lot more from Jove, I'm sort of skeptical on the next couple (if you remember the first book) since I do really enjoy the steamy hot scenes how they are written, but it does seem like the steam fizzles out is consistent. But the ideas and world building is still really interesting.

Being honest I loved this and the characters which is why I know some people will possibly say that they disliked the hero but it is so easy to do if they do not quite fit into the usual sterotypes. If he is not lovely right off the bat many will dismiss the whole book and this is so good I don't want that to happen. Please do give Brasck a chance by that I mean his actions are never without reasons and he is not just being a git because he wants to. You have to remember the life he has led, as without reading between the lines lots of people would not appreciate the male that he is. I loved this, the descritions of the arenas, the planets and all the characters. Keeps you totally captivated. Elodee is going into the arena with her eyes open. She knows what she needs to do to get the credits to help her mother although it is all still hugely daunting when you are there, regardless of why and knowing it all beforehand. One of the galdiators seems to be kind and would be gentle but you know that is not what the audience want not is it the luck of the prize either! So you guessed it you gets the cocky one although he is not totally horrid to her. Brasck was taken away from his family when he was only in his early teens, the arena is all he has known and it has affected him. Not helped by being owned by a meglomaniac it has totally ruined his sense of self worth. He acts as honourably as he can despite being all kinds of mentally messed up and you cannot help but feel for him. Sadly his owner sees that Brasck was gentle with Elodee which means that it is an addtional weakness that he can exploit. Next thing they are both on a ship heading to their joint home planet. She likes him, sort of and he likes her, sort of - where will they both go from here?
The storylines are good in this series. The main characters are like able and have depth. There are struggles and baggage from the past the both Brasck and Elodee carry. You hurt for them because their lives are so difficult and they are forced to do things that they would not do. My only constructive criticism is that there is a lot of repeated self loathing dialogue and it goes on for longer than necessary for too many chapters. Ease up on that and the flow will not stall and readers will continue to understand the suffering and abuse from the main characters pasts. Nice happy ending. Read On!
Just like the first book, this is a dark romance. Especially in this book, there are large elements of both dubcon and noncon, not just sexually speaking either. I was somewhat confused by the contracts compared between the first and second book. Was this main character just more easily manipulated. why was this one so all encompassing whereas the first book he had a lot more control. Questions of consent are a large topic for this entire book and if it is not something you are uncomfortable with, this will not be an enjoyable book. But if you enjoy dark romance and questionable morals, you will enjoy this book.
After reading the first book in the series I wanted to see where the next story went and I was not disappointed. I completely felt for this gladiator and the mfc was the perfect Ying to his yang. I can not wait for the next one in this series and to learn their stories.
I liked this book. The hero was a forced gladiator. He was told to sign a contract or they'd kill his little brother and all of his people as he is technically a King. He never wanted to hurt the heroine or any other woman thrown at him in the arena.
Hero liked to talk dirty to her and heroine told him he was beautiful.
This book is a ride. It is constantly moving and I was never quite sure where but I really enjoyed it. It felt like the characters were interesting and well developed. And the story was really well done.

Started good. Really spicy. Then the plot holes started. I honestly don't really like the background story to the the alien mc. Do I rec this book,no. Do I rec this author, maybe. I saw potential at the start of the book but hated middle and ending.
Brasck and Elodee's love story keep me entertained till the dnd. My only problem with it as Barack is a bit whiny and self hating when be should have been hating Tyler and more set assured for surviving what he had.
It was different and i loved the uniqueness of his privates. It was funny cute and HOT! But the story itself was unique and interesting and I appreciated all the characters and the depth of the story.
