Rate this book
Peter Bauer is a thief. Cars specifically, under the employ of his monstrous father Erik who’s chiseled out a spot in Los Angeles’ brutal underworld. He only knows how to live recklessly, like there isn’t a tomorrow. But at the end of his rope following a broken heart, drug addiction and a stint in prison, Peter is left wondering for the first time what comes next and if there’s any way out of the life he never asked for.

Nik Petrakis is a mechanic. Haunted by tragedy, he’s found himself in a place he never imagined, chopping cars for Erik Bauer. He never imagined Peter Bauer either, but the two broken men are soon caught in the undertow of a powerful attraction. Together, they are going to have to navigate the stirrings of new love with dangerous consequences while a gang war that could consume them both brews on the horizon.

Across three thrilling volumes, the Hot Wire saga takes readers on a wild ride through a world of crime, sex, twisted family dynamics, and a romance that just might offer the kind of redemption the heart of a thief hungers for.

I wasn’t expecting this. There was some male/male love, sure, but it was so much more than that. The story was, first and foremost, about Peter’s redemption and his road to recovery.

Seen mostly through his point of view–though there are several chapters from other characters–Peter’s story starts when he’s a car thief working for his abusive father, and recovering from his addictions. He’s the main character, but it is his relationships with the other characters, and how they change throughout the story, that is at the center of this collection. His missing mother, his abusive father, his twin sister, his buddy slash human puppy Jordan and, of course, Nikos, the sexy mechanic. It’s basically a crime family saga centered on the weakest link.

It was well written. Peter’s wit shone through the author’s words. The images and life considerations were deep and smart, inviting to reflection, and helping to define who Peter was and what he felt. I loved the plot–theft and murders and betrayal. It was gripping and very well done, and the twists kept coming. The romance wasn’t too sexy, but showed intimacy in another way.

And cars! Nuff said.

Through three novels and three short stories–not essential but they offer some insight or lighter moment in an overall heavy story–the author makes you fall in love with a little guy who’s learning to be a better version of himself, and to let go of his past. Can you relate?

Quickie

Kat Cassidy is a new to me author and Hot Wire, The Complete Collection would be the first book I've read from her.

This book has some of that Breaking Bad and Sopranos feel and vibe to it and I have some pretty mixed feelings about that. It's not the author's fault but more of a personal preference as I don't really jibe with those type of story and tone in general unless I am in the right mood to consume that type of content.

The story is pretty intense and has its fill of family drama within a crime family as well as the rivalries and complex relationships between the other groups involved in what could be called the criminal royalty in LA.

I loved Peter and Nik's relationship. Early on, when Peter was just starting to get on his feet emotionally, I was very much against the idea of having Nik as his love interest as a character since continuing whatever they had before carried so much baggage that frankly would've been detrimental to Peter's recovery. Seeing as how their relationship started with Nik cheating on his wife just didn't sit well with me.

Still in the course of the story, we get to see this complicated relationship develop into something beautiful. Peter's character growth was one of the best thing about this story collection. We get to see him battle his addiction while slowly getting out of a crime ridden life and start fresh with a man he loves. We get to accompany him on his journey of picking up the pieces of his fractured life that has been filled with past abuse from his father and emotional manipulation that left any sense of self-worth he had utterly crushed. Sure, there were moments during the course of the story that the choices of Peter and some of the supporting characters had me shaking my head in frustration at the utter stupidity of it all, but those were balanced out the rest of the story.

The author was able to create some pretty sympathetic, complex and fascinating characters in Nik and Peter and was able to flesh them out wonderfully. The supporting characters were as interesting and multidimensional as the main leads. I'm not really onboard with what happened to Olivia and would've preferred to see her get her own happy ending. The varying interludes from the point of view of other characters interspersed throughout actually helped in tying up the story and made things clearer for the reader.

Overall, Hot Wire is an engaging story with compelling characters and a wonderfully written romantic relationship filled with angst, drama, and tragedy that plays in the midst of a heated gang war in LA. I do recommend checking this out and please heed the warnings stated.

This would be a 4.25 stars out of 5 stars.

I received an ARC of this book via GRR and I have chosen to publish my fair and honest review.

Fast paced, intense, filled with family drama, kick ass female character, intense chemistry. Night Moves feels like a crime action movie with lots of characters to love and hate.

🏷️Book 1 (Night Moves) - My Rating : 3.75/5

This series follows our main characters : Peter, who hates his dad for making him doubt himself, but is excellent at stealing cars; and Nikos, a Mechanic, who also hates Peter's dad, but has no other choice but to work in his garage. I think this whole book paved way for much more that's going to come late rin the series. Because I have a lot of questions and there's a lot of open ends. We get multiple pov's (which I don't mind) and it gives you an insight as to how each character operates and gives them depth. Coming to story and character development, there's a lot to be explored and I really like the plot. The relationship between Peter and Nikos was a ride and I'm curious to see how it's going to be continued. I wish we got more time with the main characters, but for a debut novel, this was a really good one! I'm definitely going to continue with the series!

🏷️Book 2 (Backstreets) - My Rating : 4/5

A lot more emotional, packs a punch, had a lot of Emotional moments and I loved the relationship between our main characters and how it was explored in this book. Now in this book, Peter and Nikos are in a relationship after the drama that was book one. The development in their relationship and the way Peter's character was written was so much more heart punching and the whole book in general was a lot more emotional. I still think the sister + sister in law duo was a kick-ass and I want them on my side. The effect of Peter's emotional trauma and his childhood on his current relationship was done really well here. The relationship development was one of my favourites to read about. With the stress of kidnapping, bargaining and trust issues, I loved reading about the characters at their most vulnerable state. It gave so much depth and it made me invest myself emotionally in the characters. I love when a book makes me invest. Coming to the story and character development, I absolutely loved Peter and his vulnerability in this book. It had so much more energy and packed a punch than the previous book. The extra characters we got in this book was a nice touch as well. I know there are still answers to be had, but I'm really loving how the story is going, and I can't wait to read the next book!

This is the first story I’ve read by this author. I appreciate when I can get the whole series books plus several short stories all in one offer. I like being able to read the whole story in one place rather trying to find and obtain extra’s.
These stories come with triggers so I feel it is the readers responsibility to be aware of them before reading. I have very few limitations so my reviews reflect that.
This story is very intense. There is so much complexity to this story. Peter is a car thief. His father is a powerful abusive man. He seems to prefer to use Peter as a verbal and physical punching bag. Peter is a twin and even though his sister tries to step in between father and son, Peter is the brunt of his father’s abuse. Peter would like nothing more than to get away from his father and lead a regular crime free life. Peter has it ingrained that he is worthless. It is his battles with addiction, negative personality traits and criminal lifestyle that is the main focus of all these parts. His relationship with Nik has plenty of bumps in the road. Overall, Peter is one of those lovable addictive personalities. He broke my heart what all he goes through.
Nik starting by trying to deal with a wife in a coma making it questionable if he cheats or what his life is driven to. He has a daughter that adds to his responsibilities. Nik is also so likable. He is almost too nice. His trying to acknowledge what his wife was really adds to the problems with Peter.
Peter’s sister is another character who I felt dealt with the cards life had given her. I felt for her because she tried so hard to step in and support Peter. She also had her past that contributed to her choices.
There is just so much to this story that it’s hard not to go on and on. I recommend this story and I don’t often do that.

I have a weird love for everything related to garage and car repair book. I don't have a car and dont fancy ever have one but I think this love is coming from The Raven Cycle and it never left me since. So I was soooooo intrigued by this book. I wanted to find this ambiance so badly.
This is a collection of three books, all following the SAME couple from their "meeting" to their HEA.
It's a mafia, bad guys, beautiful fast car and gasoline smell kind of ambiance and a "bad guys try to turn good' kind of plot. If you fancy that go for it cause it is really great.
I love the main interest/lover the best.
But for the ambiance... I don't know. I don't think I found in this what I was looking for and I know it's not a issue, it just me. I would have loved it a little darker and athmospheric but the lack of what I fancy doesnt make it a bad book at all. I am sure a love of people would love this serie so much more than I did.
The romance is great, the couple battle to happiness and freedom is really entertaining. I will keep an eye on what this author wrote next for sure.

This book was great. Kat Cassidy is a new author to me but I am definitely going to be reading more by her. This is three books in one but it was such a smooth transition from one to the other that you don't really know the others. Peter and Nikos were great MCs. This book is about Peter who is a car thief (actually really good at it) and comes from a crime family. His father runs the family with an iron fist and he also has to deal with recovery from addictions. Niko is a mechanic who works for the Bauers and when he meets Peter he is dragged into the family drama whether he wants to or not. Man is there a lot. I liked both of them but especially Peter. Definitely recommend this book!

I was lucky enough to grab a copy on netgalley for this review

Be gay, do crimes is one of my favorite sub-genera's, so this one ticked all the boxes for me.

I don't know much about cars, nor did I ever really understand the appeal other than the fact that they make life easier, but the criminal underworld and all that entails is explained perfectly that it allows you to jump right into the story and understand everything that's going on. It's highly descriptive, sleek, and almost sexual the way the cars are described, starting from the very first scene.

The characters are tough to fall in love with, they all have a lot of jagged edges and dark histories, but once you do you're fully in with them. You don't always agree with their choices, and they mess up more times than not, but they're beautifully written and beautifully flawed. The antagonists made my blood boil, I hated every single time any of them were on the page, and that's how you know they're well written. I hadn't felt this amount of loathing for a particular antagonist since the first time I read the All for the Game series, which is about as high as a compliment as I can give. The family dynamics are rough and hard to read, but I enjoyed them the most out of everything the book had to offer. It reminds me of the show Animal Kingdom in a way, which I was pleasantly surprised by.

Being three books in one, you can tell that they fall into the usual trilogy trappings, which is expected and comfortable. The first book, Night Moves, has a quieter ending, while the second book, Backstreet, goes full Empire Strikes Back, and the third book, Breakdown, weaves together portions of both to lead to a satisfying ending that the characters definitely had to work hard for.

Of course, I did have my problems with the book, though they were few and far between. The romance didn't jump out at me too much, which is of course the reason I wanted to read this in the first place, but I was willing to overlook my slight disappointment because I loved everything else the book had going for it. I was more on board with it by the end at least, and was happy for their happy ending.

Overall, the book (or books) were a fantastic read and I enjoyed the time I spent with it. I'd not read anything by Kat Cassidy before but they will for sure be on my watch list from now on.

Hot Wire is a collection of the three books (and bonus shorts) from Kat Cassidy's Hot Wire collection. I had never read the series - or anything else by the author - when I started this one and I'm honestly very glad that I waited. Because books one and two are very much HFN endings.

Hot Wire follows Peter and Nik, two men who meet while working for Peter's dad, Erik, boosting cars and chopping them at a chop shop in the Los Angeles underworld. Peter has been a part of this world his entire life. Nik was roped in by Erik in exchange for financial help. The two men have their own tragedies, and these traumas and tragedies color their entire relationship throughout the three books.

If you're looking for a romance that is healthy from the jump then this is not the book for you. If you're looking for a book with two very imperfect men finding a way to fit together with all of their scars and traumas, then this is a great place to go.

Each book spans a very short time period - with most of the action taking place in one or two nights. As such, it does leave a lot of gaps in how the men get to where they are in each book. But it also provides a sense of urgency in the books that had me speeding through the series and salivating for more. The twists were well plotted, and I could see a good many of the betrayals coming but only because of how well plotted they were. There were still a few that surprised me, and even in retrospect, they had all the clues laid down for those as well.

The book features a lot of great side characters, including ones that you will absolutely hate. There is a plot thread that ties all three books together, and none of them can be read as a standalone. These books are told in a third person POV with interludes from side characters, providing bits of the narrative and flashbacks that we wouldn't normally see. These added a lot of depth to the book and honestly, were some of my favorite parts.

I really enjoyed this collection!

I loved the fact that it was based in LA, since I was born and raised here and I recognized some of the places and names.

I really enjoyed how Nik and Peter’s relationship developed throughout the book and really, how Peter himself grew as an individual as well. His character development was amazing. We got to see him battle addiction, get out of a crime ridden life and start fresh, and redevelop himself. Nik could see through all his bullshit and was by his side throughout the whole thing.

I really liked how the book was written in one characters point of view but there were “interludes” throughout the story of small chapters from other characters point of views. I think the interludes really helped tie the story together and helped us understand what was happening.

What happened with Liv wasn’t my cup of tea… as much as she messed up, I don’t think she deserved that. I wish we got to see redemption for her.

I also wish we got to see a little bit more of life for Nik and Peter after the ending.

Peters relationship with Mia was so nice to see as well after he and Nik had been together for so long and Mia was older now. It was so wholesome to see that Peter assumed the role of a father with her, which is something he didn’t think he was capable of.

I was provided an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Hot Wire, The Complete Collection has everything you could ever want -- cunning and plotting individuals who know how to always stay two steps ahead, a sizzling relationship filled with angst, drama, and tragedy, plus the inner-workings of organized crime in the greater downtown Los Angeles area.

I stayed up way past my bedtime to read this whole saga and to write this review.

The Good:
I liked that throughout the books, Peter really did grow as a character and start realizing how his trauma affected him and his actions.
I enjoyed some of the twists that took place in the latter half of the book, because I did not expect or see them coming.

The Bad:
As the story went on, I become increasingly more disinterested in Olivia. I really thought I was going to love her, because she seemed to encapsulate being a #bossbabe but then she just became...unlikable, ruthless, and I feel like overall her character took a turn from what she was originally portrayed as.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and thought the concepts were something I haven't seen a lot of in M/M Romantic fiction.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kat Cassidy for providing an advance copy of this book for me to enjoy. As always, this book was read and reviewed voluntarily, and the opinions stated above are completely my own.

Hot Wire by Kat Cassidy is a heavy/ intense book. It contains 3 books.

Make sure you read the trigger warning. It's no joke. There were a few scenes where I had a hard time reading & closed the app to return to it after 3 days, so keep that in mind if you decide to read it.

Kat Cassidy is a new author for me & I'm impressed with the writing. It grabs you from the start. I also found the interlude between the chapters unique didn't read that in any other books.

Book 1 Night Moves:

Now our main characters are Peter & Nikos. Peter works for his dad, where he steals cars & Nikos is the mechanic in the garage who works for Peter's dad.

They start off as friends, but then one night, that changed their friendship into something more. The book is a slow burn that I like just fine, but I didn't like the romance & intimacy. I found it kinda lacking & I wish there was more.

Book 2 Backstreet.
Is where the book picks up. The angst (I just love an angsty book) Ahhh Love how these 2 in the 2ed book try to work their relationship. It made me root for their HEA. The 2ed book is packed with a lot of surprises.

Book 3 Breakdown.
This book wrapped up really well. The ending was satisfyingly sweet.

There is no doubt Kat Cassidy is a talented author & I look forward to reading more from her.

This collection of books contains all three books in the series. It follows Peter Bauer and Nik Petrakis through so many problems, including a crime war, prison for Peter, and betrayals after betrayals.

Peter was raised to be a criminal by his crime boss father, Erik Bauer. He steals cars for his father who physically and mentally abuses him. After a bad break up and drug addiction, Peter feels he has no choice until he is arrested. Adding a stint in prison makes Peter realize he needs a change.

Nik Petrakis finds himself working for Erik Bauer chopping cars. He finds himself attracted to Peter, but is not sure what to do. He is trying to pull himself up from his own tragedy. The two do get together but find themselves in the middle of a gang war, pulled in many directions.

This was an amazing set of stories. Both these broken men will touch your heart and your emotions as they try to heal each other. Peter has such self esteem issues that only the love of Nik could help him. Nik has no problem calling Peter on his crap when he tries to destroy the relationship. The two has some really heavy things to work out and survive. Hop on for the chaotic and dangerous ride as these two face known and unknown enemies. You will be celebrating and crying with them both.

REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hot Wire: The Complete Collection by Kat Cassidy is a compilation of three Peter Bauer novels along with several limited release short stories. These stories take the reader through the world of organized crime, twisted family dynamics and romance. Peter Bauer is a car thief working for his cruel and ruthless father who is a major player in Los Angeles’ underworld. Nik is a mechanic forced to work in a chop shop to repay a debt, but yearns to be out from under and to spend a normal and legitimate life with Peter. With a gang war brewing, will Peter and Nik live long enough to find love?⠀

This dark romance takes place against a bloody and violent backdrop of the criminal⠀
underworld. If you are looking for a romance filled with hearts and flowers, you won’t find it here. Instead, be prepared for a gritty and suspenseful tale of two broken souls and their fight for freedom, redemption and the ability to stay alive. The action packed plot moves at bullet speed and is full of drama and angst. Within the first few pages you will be swept into the lives of these two characters and their desperate attempt to escape the world in which they were born. This is definitely a unique m/m romance that is well worth a read. ⠀

Hot Wire: The Complete Collection is a brilliantly written three book and three short stories collection all in one place, and totally binge worthy. Be aware of the triggers. There are parts of this book that are a bit disturbing. There is so much more to this book than the relationship between Peter and Nik. Or the relationship between Peter and his twin sister Olivia. Or even Peter's relationship with his father. This book drew me in from the very beginning. I was rooting for Peter the whole time to overcome everything that was handed to him and the discussions he'd made throughout his young life. Once he and Nik found each other and started their relationship I'd hoped it would be a positive for Peter. I really enjoyed watching Peter and Nik's relationship grow as they overcame so many obstacles including Peter getting out from the family business so he and Nik could start their own business. This book has murder, mystery, suspense, war between crime families, a few surprises, and so much more. I definitely recommend this book.

Peter and Nik find themselves in a difficult situation. Peter has been pulled into his father's illegal business and he is treated poorly by his father in the bargain. He is a car thief for his father and Nik is a talented mechanic who chops them up. Neither man is happy with his lot. Nik needs the money. Both men are dealing with their own difficult issues when they meet. And they fall for one another in the midst of their gritty circumstances but getting out of that kind of business is not always easy. If they can make it out of their circumstances, together they can build a better life and a solid family with Nik's precocious daughter Mia. And through this series of books we follow them as they do what they have to survive and make it to a place where they can have a healthy, above board life with a family of their own, their way. I enjoyed reading their story through this series of books, in all of its difficulty and eventual hope as they do just that. The kid is a trip and it was so nice to see them into the future as well.

I'm really glad I encountered this series in its complete form, so I could binge the whole thing and not have to wait between books to find out how Peter and Nik were going to get on. At the start, their chances at survival aren't great, much less their chance of a relationship. Peter has been caught up in his father's illegal activities to the point where he's been to prison and had an addiction problem. Nik has been working for Peter's father as well and when they meet, sparks fly but there are so many complications from the family, the crime family, the authorities and these two men's past baggage that nothing comes easy. This is an intense and absorbing series that I highly recommend if you like characters just on the shady side of the law trying to redeem themselves.

This was my first time reading this author. I loved Hot Wire Collection of three stories. Night Moves is about Peter and Nikos, a slow burn friends and angsty. Backstreet picks up as Night Moves ends. Peter and Nikos continue to work on their relationship and in Breakdown, the story ends very satisfyingly. There’s some family drama that feels pretty intense at times. Overall, a really good read! The story was really well written and kept me engaged, the pacing flowed smoothly, highly recommend. This is (forgive the car metaphor, but it’s apt) a heck of a ride. Dull moments are few and far between, and compelling characters are easy to find in Peter and Nik, two beautifully imperfect humans who in spite of everything, have something more than chemistry between them. Peter in particular has layers and struggles and a story arc that leans heavily into change and recovery. Crime, danger, moral ambiguity, personal growth, powerful feelings, and more, this is an engrossing read, easy to be drawn into and hard to look away from.

Plan A

This was different from what I expected, but I liked it. Although there’s a beautiful romance between him and Nik, the core of this collection is Peter and his emotional, intense, uncomfortable, healing, and rewarding journey. He’s a complex guy and I enjoyed seeing how Peter grew and changed. Even though there were times I didn’t like him, he kept me reading as I needed to see him find his way. Prepare to be frustrated, to laugh, but most of all to love. It’s a ride you won’t soon forget.

I regret writing this. Personally I found no connection between the characters.
Peter seems self centred and though he seems like an abused character to begin with his mindset never seemed to change.
Nik however bendsover backwards and get nowhere fast

Even the writing, being third party, didnt engage me. Sorry. Not for me though I really wish I wasnt stating that.

This book is full of everything I love most - crime, sex, and characters who know what they're doing when they get into trouble. Nik, Olivia, and Peter are so insanely, intriguingly fun. They're all firecrackers you'll want to take some of their spark with you for your daily life. Peter and Nik's relationship is sexy and sweet - an absolutely brilliant read that never dulls.

I started the Hot Wire series a few years back and was instantly hooked. Somehow, I missed the recent release of the final installment. However, the release of all three novellas included within a collection made for the perfect opportunity to catch up with this exciting story.

Peter and Nik are an unexpected but fantastic pairing. I love their patience and understanding for one another and that neither is free of flaws. I also really like that the author doesn’t shy away from the men acknowledging and navigating one another’s issues. It made this couple very relatable but also kept me fully invested in their journey.

The action in the Hot Wire series is absolutely great. There’s definitely some mixed morality in Peter and Nik’s story, especially when it comes to Peter’s family. However, the author does a wonderful job of making sure the reader understands the character's motivations.

The Hot Wire Collection are definitely fast-paced stories. At times, it feels underdeveloped or maybe like things are moving too fast, but the next twist or revelation comes barreling down and I simply find myself along for the ride. I’ll admit, this seemed less problematic this time through. I’m not sure if that was because it was a reread or if it was because there were no cliffhangers or unresolved storylines that left me wanting. Regardless, for someone who isn’t a frequent rereader, I was really happy to revisit the first two novellas in the series so I could enjoy them as a complete collection.

If you like stories with a fast pace, good action, and plenty of twists- The Hot Wire Collection is definitely worth the read.
