If you had to describe Minka Santos, it would depend on who you asked. To wives, she’s a home-wrecking, gold-digging whore. But to their husbands she’s the best they ever had. To her family, she’s simply a girl whose mother swept her under the rug so no one will ever know about her or her absentee father. Minka lives the life most want; nice car, house and endless amounts of money. But is she happy? Just when Minka is ready to give up on love, she meets a Micah. Micah shows Minka that a man should value his woman and she was made to be a wife. While falling head over heels with Micah, will everything come crashing down when Micah finds out about her past? Or will Micah also have a couple of skeletons in the closet as well? For someone who never wanted to be a wife, will she end up being one?
1 star for the lack of errors. Everything else is a negative star (if I could).
Minka went to the bathroom. Minka walked in the bathroom and undid her belt, lowered her Black Gucci pants and sat on the toilet. Minka really had to pee. - THIS IS WHAT YOU GAVE US 🤣. I promise this is how the whole book sounds.
Then all the Tella-Novella stuff she threw up in here made me want to cry for all its ridiculousness.
Minka could have been a dope character and her situation could’ve been a great storyline until it all went left field.
Do not pass the cover, do not collect credit for reading this. Save yourself please .. Ain’t no way I’m reading book 2.
Ms. Author, this book is MESSY. Even though it’s 10+ years old and revamped, reading this felt like being back in my old Wattpad urban books era. The writing wasn’t the best, and Jah’s writing is definitely much better now, but damn… the plot was so fucking wild.
If you've ever been the villain in someone else's story, this one is for you. This book had me whispering, “Girl, don’t do it,” while flipping pages like, “Oop… she did it.” Off bat, Minka’s life is messy, she’s misunderstood, and honestly? I felt bad for her. She’s the definition of “use what you got to get what you want.” And that secret we found out at the end about Minka’s life? BABY, I was shocked. Mouth open. Didn’t see it coming.
I really wanted to love this book, but I just couldn’t connect with any of the characters. Their choices didn’t resonate with me, and at times, I honestly struggled to get through it. That said, the author definitely knows how to keep you hooked—the story ends on a major cliffhanger. So even though I’m skeptical about diving into part 2, curiosity might win.
I’m not even going to lie, some parts of this book were pretty predictable, but it was definitely messy enough to keep me reading. Sasha was really cray cray! 😂 I need to know what is going to happen with her with all the problems she is creating. The ending of the book was surprising, and now Ashley and Milan have a whole new issue on their hands with their past coming back for revenge. I’m definitely ready to see how that plays out.
Morocco was also a really horrible mother to both of her children. The way Milan found out the news was just horrible. I kept thinking, what kind of parent leaves their child with the mother and then turns their back on that child because of something that happened to them? I understand the circumstances Morocco endured growing up, and I can understand how those experiences shaped her, but I still feel like she could have shown some type of love to a child she never wanted. Morocco had no feelings whatsoever, and then she had another child, only to leave that child at the house of the child she had tossed away and walk away again. That was just cold to me.
I also noticed some inconsistencies while listening to the audiobook and reading the book. The book mentions Jackson, while the audio mentions Micah with a different last name. I know this was one of the author’s earlier books because of things like that. Honestly, this author’s work is now outstanding to me, but the story was still entertaining enough to keep me interested.
This book was really messy, and I hope these characters get themselves together by the next book. 😂 There is definitely a lot going on, and with the past coming back to cause problems, I’m curious to see how everything unfolds. I’ll definitely be reading the next book because I need to know what happens next!
Whew! There was a lot to unpack in this book! This story follows Minka Santos, a high priced escort, I’d say. Her logic is simple she handle her clients wants and needs and they tak care of her lavish lifestyle. That is all fine and dandy until Minka meets and falls in love with NFL player, Micah Jackson. Micah had a rendevous sometime ago with Minka’s friend Sasha but it was nothing too serious, at least not to Micah. Micah later finds out that his cousin Donovan is dating Sasha, not knowing that Sasha initially did’nt know that they were cousins but stayed with Donovan only to get close to Micah. In her mind Micah is her man! Sasha has set a series of plans in motion to break Micah and Minka up causes much havoc along the way. I have to say there was something going all throughout the book. I do think that the plot could have been lot smoother it seemed to have been all over the place. I do plan to read the second book though! I need to know about these crazy characters!
WTHeck! I tried so hard, but there was so much ridiculousness that it became difficult to even finish. I literally closed the book at 95%. Why go that far and not finish it? Because I was cringing. EVERY single character in this book, even side characters need some serious therapy!
The turn of events after Minka received “The Letter” was just so disgusting that I finally put the book down and came to the conclusion that I will never know how this ends.
Without giving away any spoilers, I’ll just say this book has so many crossovers that I literally had to pull out my whiteboard with my list of characters and cross-reference their relationships—which, of course, gave me major Uncle-Daddy vibes. 😬
Needless to say, I will not be losing any sleep over the fate of these characters, and I will not be reading the next book in this series. And I’m perfectly OK with that.
Babyyyyy, the twist and turns this book had my head spinning and moving from left to right!!!…I clutched my pearls more than once!!!… Sasha is going to need her head touched by GAWWDDD, because she is playing in all the pools of mess!!!… I was so glad that Minka was able to have the conversation with her mom and sister present because they need a cleanse and a healing!!!… Micah is out her being for the streets and the streets is messing in life for real!!!…He was disgusted with Minka, never gave her an opportunity to explain, but now he’s tangled in a 2 way love affair and a delusional woman claiming to be pregnant!!!… Juelz is about to be back on scene and I don’t think anyone is ready for the chaos that comes with that!!!…The walking dead for real!!!…
Juelz is not dead, he gone be back on drugs and mess up again. I hope Ashley won’t have no regrets anymore especially when she find out he trying to destroy her. Micah don’t have no good sense do he, they should have filed a restraining order on that Sasha all them weird vibes she giving off. Lisa how you jealous and you married! Minka keep being the boss you are and raise Miya and keep it moving
Wait, WHAT!!!!! I wasn't expecting this book to end like that. Not Juelz coming back from the dead. This Sasha character is too crazy for me, and she's making trouble for EVERYONE. George is a monster and very disgusting. I have no words for him and Wlliam. I believe part 2 is going to be something, and I can't wait to read it.
I’m shaken to my core. The drama, the pain, the loss, the love, and the heavy weight of a generational curse—it all hit me deep. Sweeping things under the rug doesn’t make them disappear, it only festers until it explodes. My heart is racing, and I can’t click on the next book fast enough. I need to feel how this ends.”
So, I started this book after Libby suggested it because my library got the audiobook. I let my husband watch his Sunday night football and finished this in one sitting! If Jah don’t give you NOTHING else, she gonna give you a delulu antagonist and a web of characters! Hunny get into it.
This was a really good book. I knew somebody didn't die.... I need Micah and Minka to get it together. All these folks is crazy but will there be a Minka and Micah in part 2? 🤷🏾♀️
Wow I didn’t expect that ending.. praying for Ashley and Minka..That Sasha Better get her a hobby and a life.. Lisa better get it too..Definitely can’t wait for the next book. Great job Jah❤️❤️
I wasn't sure about Minka at first but she definitely grew on me. I like her and Ashley's friendship even though they both didn't truly appreciate one another at first. That ending though!!
I loved this book it was fire from the beginning to the end. Sasha is definitely crazy though omg she’s getting on my nerves. I hope that Minka and Ashley doesn’t get in trouble I really wish that they made sure that Juelz was dead though.
I hope Sasha meets her Karma quick. Micah and Minah have a lot to do to try and fix them. I love this storyline it definitely kept me. Read this book in one day, now I'm excited for part 2
It was okay. Not the most exciting story. It took awhile for me to get into it. I didnt connect with any of the characters. I did like the end and I'm hoping the next part is better. I'm gonna read it just to see and because I already downloaded it.
It wouldn't be a Jahquel book if I wasn't rushing to get to the next part. If you're looking for a book that has betrayal, revelations, love and scandals . Look no further.
So many secrets that changed a lot of lives. George and William are some dirty men. Minka deserved better than the hand she was dealt. I hope her and Micah can work things out. Sasha is crazy for real.
This book was never what I thought it was to be, it's interesting twist and turns have me spell bound and surprised!!! This is a new author for me...she definitely has style and a way with words...waiting for the shoe to drop...
Oooh, part 1 was great! Can’t wait to begin pray 2! This was so good that I couldn’t put it down. Jahquel, girl you are doing your thing with these books. Please keep them coming!
I like this story it is definitely a good read, I loved the characters Minka & Micah they are meant to be together but they have too many emotions & enemies against them!! Can’t wait to dive into book #2
Well the ending sure did hit the motherfucking fan! Morocco secret!! Lordt! And then the way Minka had to find out about the secret of the men she fucked for money! DIABOLICAL!! Ms. Author Lady Jaquel! WHAT IN THEE ENTIRE FUCK!!! Now book 2!
Her second book ever and it’s so good! Twist and turns of drama but it’s not overkill. This story line… chef kiss😘 like where do you come up with this stuff lady!! It’s engaging and entertaining beautifully and wild! Very good read!
This one wasn’t a typical Jahquel J read. The writing style just didn’t match what I’m used to and love by her. Now I am going to read part 2 only because I’m vested in seeing what happens(that part is true Jahquel fashion) next.
