This is a prequel to the Penny Wright series by A.N. Willis. This story grabbed me from the beginning. It is told in a way that makes you think it's actually a true story, but it states at the beginning of the book that it is fiction.
Penny is taken to Eden, Colorado by her parents Lawrence & Debbie. Lawrence was there as a child and had a ghostly experience. There had been a bloody massacre aptly named Devil's Night Massacre in the 1800's. A woman named Marion Smith is reported to have killed everyone in the town.
Over the years the place has been known to be haunted. Marion left a daughter behind who it turns out is Lawrence's grandmother. Every summer Lawrence's mother took him to Eden on the anniversary of Devil's Night Massacre. Years later he decides to take his family there. His 6 year old, Penny, is sensitive to ghosts so he wanted to know what she would see. When things start happening Debbie takes Penny and leaves Lawrence behind.
Lawrence and his friend Jason are left behind to deal with the ghosts.
A very intriguing story which makes me want to read the rest of the series.
Was sent a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. This is a prequel to the Penny Wright series of novels and is written about her ghostly experiences as a young child, when she was taken to Eden by her father, who also had a ghostly encounter there also as a child. An interestingly spooky tale which is written in such a way as to make you think that this is a true account of an actual haunting.
