I want Sarah Daunis to be my teacher. Reading the vignettes and pieces of children's work really put me in the classroom. Sarah and Maria's voices really come through. As I grew to expand my thinking from "Poem of the week" to Shared Reading that includes many genres, my excitement for using these ideas and strategies in the classroom and even extending it to reading art and music grew as well.

This was a fabulous read - clear, concise and easy to implement. Weekly shared reading provides an excellent way for a reading community to develop shared understanding. Teachers can explicitly model the strategies students need to use to develop deep understanding. It is also easy to integrate curriculum using this strategy. Additionally, the skills learned through weekly shared reading will provide students support in taking high stakes tests.

I am really looking forward to reading this new text by two brilliant young leaders in their field. I hope to learn about how using shared texts helps students them to become both more confident readers, and more inquisitive, stronger students overall.

Good book overall...recommended from TLN. I wish there was more for middle school in this book. But I like the scheduling and methodical way it goes about thinking about treating text in the classroom.

I really enjoyed this book. I have been learning more and more about teaching in the upper grades, 3-5, and I thought it was a very practical and useful. I am hoping that I can team teach with another upper grade teacher this fall that would like to put this in place.

Having learned from the authors and watched their incredible teaching, I'm not even going on a whim when I say the book will be five stars.
