Blurb: My heart is still beating, but does that really make me one of the lucky ones?
Nothing in Blackthorne Towers is left to chance. My captor is keeping me alive for a reason...
Obeying his orders will keep me alive, but what is the price I'll have to pay for my life?
When you're surrounded by monsters for long enough, there's only so long that you can resist the pull to the darkness... especially if I can get my vengeance.
Kitten features mature content and dark themes, including references to kidnap, sexual assault and extreme violence. Reader caution is advised.
Holly Bloom has a degree in English Literature, but don't let that fool you... she would pick a steamy romance over a Shakespeare play any day!
Holly writes contemporary romance - the dark, gritty and twisty kind. She loves creating badass babe characters, who aren't afraid to speak their minds, and writing about the men who can handle them - often, there is more than one! Why choose, right?
When she isn't working on her next project, Holly spends an unhealthy amount of time watching true crime and roaming around the woods near her home in the UK. As well as gooey chocolate brownies, Holly’s favourite thing in the world is hearing from her readers.
I was hesitant about trying this introduction into the world of Holly Bloom mainly because it's a bit different for me. However I ended up loving it and will most likely jump into the series with both feet. Holly's writing is so easy to read and you quickly become immersed into Candy's story. Definitely worth a read!!
The disturbing (yet very interesting) making of Candy — definitely be mindful of trigger warnings here (mentions of rape - not detailed “on screen” but enough to be upsetting, death/murder, torture - again not “on screen” but the aftermath & recounting it, and mistreatment of women & sex workers)
It was nice to go back to this, after having read Killer Candy, to find out what she went through in more detail to make her the way she is. You get bits and pieces but this helps put into perspective how broken she is and how she put herself back together.
I don’t think it matters if you read it before or after reading the first book; I don’t feel like I missed anything by reading it after, if anything it helped soften the blow of how depraved Hiram & The Keeper were, by being prepared for it.
4/ 5 Okay, when i saw this book i confess that i didn't put só much credibility. It's not a cover that you see and say: Yes, murders, blood and triggers 🤣🤣. And, even didn't explicit the scenes, this a promising one. Seriously, i really enjoyed this storie. Here we have a girl: Candy (Kitten) and she were kidnapped with 16 years old. She were maipulate and torture by your captor (and his guards) until submissa herself. Even with dark themes, the situations don't are pormenorize. The chapters passes with marcants momments in her life, momments that made her tranform and development in what she are in the first book. It's a short story, but i'm curious about the next ones.
Gave it a shot because the female lead is badass but I just couldn't keep reading when it was so obvious that Zander is the main male lead and she's going to end up with him. I can't deal with the guy. Him and West both, with all the slut-shaming and general disrespect.
The last straw was when he mocked the female lead saying she didn't need a man to save her. Nope. That's when I decided I couldn't go on. If some man ever talked to me like that IRL slaps and kicks will be delivered instantly.
The story itself is good, but Zander and West's existence bothers me so much. These guys are supposed to end up with Candy?? How unworthy. Candy deserves better. Bye.

Ohhhh this prequel novella was good!!! And it makes me look forward to the series, it seems quite promising!
In this novella, we meet Candy, and learn how she became Kitten under the woes of a ruthless crime lord… until she reclaims her power and rediscovers herself as Candy. It’s very well written, Holly did an amazing job writing the brainwashing that Candy goes through and how deep it runs. I’m very excited to read what happens next in her story!
A great quick read to get you started. I was new to Holly Bloom and Candy and this was a great way to get my feet wet. It gave me some backstory on Candy and definitely got me hyped to start the series. Check the TWs well this wasn’t spicy, it was dark & gritty . Definite situations that could be triggering to some. Happy reading book besties💙
Kitten is the prequel novella to the Lapland Underground series. I have to admit, I haven't started that series yet, so reading this novella is my introduction into this story. I absolutely enjoyed this so much. I cannot believe what I was missing out on. For being such a short story, it was pretty dark and Candy's backstory is so sad, but definitely can’t wait to continue this series!
Amazing prequel to Killer Candy! Candy goes through so much and I loved seeing her background and how she came about. It’s hard and sad but man did she persevere. It makes her even more badass
4.5 ⭐️ perfect ending (I know its a prequel novella but I read it last) to a perfect series. God do I love Holly's work, 2 (3 cause a reread) to go till im fully caught up xx
